  • On “My Car Story” we're in Indianapolis IN at The Indianapolis Motor Speedway on 5-27-16.
We’re looking at an Indianapolis 500 1933 Indy Racecar Rigling Henning Wonder Bread Special # 54.
The Car Owner is Pat Phinny. Pat shares the car has a Duesenberg straight 8 cylinder engine. What caught my attention with this Beautiful Vintage Indy Car is the paint with the “dots”, however Pat educates me with an interesting story that they’re “balloons”.
As a bonus, I interview Indianapolis (and other races) Race Car Driver Wally Dallenbach Sr. who we find out will be driving this car on Sunday before the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 race.
    ENJOY!

The graphics are balloons, but according to Wikipedia they signify an "International Balloon Race" held at IMS, not the balloons released at the start of the race. The Florida owner was Walter Hill, who also owned one of the best Jaguar collections in the world. A GREAT car!

Somewhat easy engine to work with in those by-gone days.
To start these things...some fun(?) But, when started...a nice sound. And, as of 2016 when the video episode was made...Wally Dallenbach, Sr. I remember him many times over. Got some 1975 film footage of him at I.M.S. and, a photo or two of him at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 1981 or '82 in the pit area...cowboy hat and boots. He was in some capacity with CART sanctioning the CART series. Would have been nice of him winning that '75 Indy 500 had his car not gone bad.
Thanks, Lou for the history view of this 1933 Indianapolis racer.

@@loucostabile Lou, I am a chemical engineer from Florida. I cam e up to Pa to help take care of my mother who had MS. While I was up here I worked for a pharmaceutical company in Bangor Pa and rode nearly 2 hours a day on my 1957 Harley. A little over 24 months ago I was clipped leaving my driveway by someone in an F350 flipping me up and around a telephone pole and nearly crushing my right leg in two. Blood clots and embolisms later I survived and hit the physical therapy hard enough to get my circulation back so I could keep my leg.I decided I wanted to do something I loved instead of working with a bunch of...I am starting a welding, fabrication, foundry and light machine shop specializing in pre war race cars and sports cars up to the 50's and 60's. I really have a love for the 1930's engines and cars and you never know where an engine such as a Duesenberg might turn up. They know more about everything now but there are still some surprises.I designed and am developing a super hot magneto and repair and rebuild them as well. Yes it is interesting how many crazy engines can be "noticed" on TH-cam...I wil be starting my TH-cam channel within a month with the build of a 1928 Morgan aero RIP GN special , then the next project I have sourced most of the parts for is a 1933 MG supercharged K3 boat tail racer. Maybe we will run into each other sometime. I didn't realize it was your channel at first. Nice to make your acquaintance Lou.

Lou my uncle Joe Russo drove that car in the 1933 Indy 500. The number on his car was 18 I think. I have a picture of him at the track along with 2 pin up girls.
