Found this fascinating!! I gave up 6.5 years ago. I’m ashamed to say I absolutely loved smoking. I was rarely seen without a cigarette in hand and people knew me for it. How awful. I can’t believe I’ve given up - it’s huge. Feel like I could have a cigarette at times of stress and when I see people smoking on tv I want one. Find that so annoying. But the feeling soon passes when I stop and think how far I have come - and the stubbornness inside me doesn’t want to undo 6.5 years of hard work. I’m proud to tell people I no longer smoke. But I will forever have sympathy for anyone wanting to give up - it’s so hard and I understand fully why people struggle and keep going back to it. Loved this video - Thanks for this xxxx
Started smoking at school at 14, all my friends did, we thought it was so cool, the shop at the top of the road sold single cigs to school kids!! Gave up when I was 22 when I met my husband, so proud of myself and never missed it. My 21 year old son smokes, his friends smoke, that’s how it starts, wish he didn’t but what can I say, just hope he gives up before he gets much older and it takes a grip
I used to smoke menthol whilst chewing gum too. I couldn’t smoke a cig unless I was drinking or chewing gum. I’m 54 now and loved smoking but gave up so many times but finally kicked it for good 10 yrs ago. Such a hard habit.
I still can’t believe I’ve done it either, now you say that!!! It feels as big a rite of passage as a driving test or first pay check as I look back 20yrs on... Jesus, so hard; but when it’s time, it’s TIME. I had a heartbreak in life and rage in my belly & with Alain Carr’s book I did it. So if I can so can anyone ✨🌱❤️🌱✨as you say. ....Great talk guys. Thank you for making this video, I asked for advice on the live on how to quit. I'm sure it wont be easy but definitely something I need to do. Finding the "want" is harder. I'm 23 I've smoked for about 5 years, I've always said I'll just stop when I want to have children. I think your absolutely right it's all mental, and about distraction. Really going to think about my plan now. Xx
I gave up smoking after seeing Allen Carr for a hypnotherapy session at his house in Raynes Park in the late 80s. I remember him saying that actually it was easy to stop, it was like taking off a pair of too tight shoes. I left thinking, well that was interesting but it didn't work. Later that night I realised that I actually hadn't had a cigarette even though I had several duty free packets in my flat. A few years later I did start again, but knew I could stop because I had once before, plus I was living in Australia by then and as you mention, they have hard-hitting public health campaigns, and it was an ad that showed a glammed up woman going out for the evening, smoking with every drink, then coming home, taking her make-up off and brushing her teeth - a loud voice saying 'you can't brush your lungs clean.' Every time I brushed my teeth I heard this. So I stopped and know I can never have even one cigarette, though I strangely still get the odd strong craving. Really, if I can do it, I believe anyone can.
