  • I meet a poor but very polite kid in Vietnam. Note her shoes at the end as she walks off. They are much too small for her and it must be a real pain shuffling around in those god forsaken things.
But these kids will never complain.

Kiaora Troy. Your Vietnam people are down to earth humble loving people. I see it in them and I've met Vietnam people here in my country (Aotearoa New Zealand). my brother in law and Uncle were in the Vietnam War and couldn't stop talking of the great skills in the Jungle by Vietnam citizens and soldiers alike. Great job Troy. Noho ora mai (Remain well).

Oh no! She looked back as she walked away and broke the spell. Now the snacks will turn to dust when she takes them out of the bag!!!! Well done Troy - keep up the good work. It is strange how things have changed in the West. When I was a kid growing up in Wales the idea of kids working - especially in family retail enterprises and in rural areas was normal.... we liked doing it. Didn't have cable and daytime TV, and of course no internet and no phones - even landlines for most households. It kept us occupied and helped us bond as a strong family unit. As long as we had food, a home and clothes on our back we were happy and content. The rampant internet and multimedia materialism and early sexualization (especially of girls) has done more to destroy the childhoods and families of countless children in the West than selling vegetables and fruit at the family roadside stall has ever done in Vietnam.

Troy, some of your videos bring tears down my cheeks. I have been in the same situation as other young kids in Vietnam, having to walk up to strangers to try and sell fruits. I often went for days without food. Now I live in Australia and very grateful for what I have. I have always been too scared to go back to Vietnam to visit but your videos have inspired me to take the plunge and to go to Vietnam. I have told my wife I want to take $5000 Australian dollars with me to Vietnam to help out people who are in similar situation as I was. My wife totally supports me and she wants to do the same. Your videos do make a difference mate. Keep up the good work..

Brittany Cao I was expecting more disparity. I later learned that many of the beggers/homeless were selling lottery tickets as a government enforcement to keep them productive and to lessen tourism fear of poverty. It was much cleaner than I had expected as well and lots of young people between 15-24 yrs old. From traveling most of SE Asis, it is one of the most vibrant cities I've visited.
