Looks solid at that price point. I can add the upgrades, but I’m not comping, just trailing.perfect blend. After building and installing the trans in my OriginVS4, I love it. Hardest part was adapting the new battery tray. Did that and still can run my 4300 packs! Great upgrade!
I'm sure I'm not the only one who would love to see VP offer the VFD Transmission Kit with all the "upgrades" included...call it, if you wish, the "VFD Pro Transmission Kit". For those truly interested in stock a trans kit, it would be more affordable that purchasing this kit, followed by purchasing all the "upgrades"...plus, you'd probably sell more of them. Speaking of the "upgrades", whatever happened to the list? The description (from over 3 months ago) said the upgrade parts list, with links, would be added soon...three months later, still no list (or links). Personally, I purchased the VS4-10 Pro...but, I'm also potentially interested in this (plus the chassis kit) for a custom build.
I updated all the option parts, thats something that slipped my mind. An upgraded trans kit was just going to be very expensive and often the lower cost units are just such a better seller that it is what we focus on. But yes the upgraded cost really makes you see the value in the Pro kit!

We want to ask you two questions: 1) would it be possible to cancel the 6% front overdrive? 2) what is the overall gear ratio of VFD transmission? Thanks again :)
That seems like a lot of plastic for a $100 trans. I was looking forward to getting one of these as an upgrade to my VS4-10 Origin Limited, but am not interested in going from my aluminum trans with machined gears to a plastic trans with sintered gears!
Comparing the price of a bombproof trans to a kit like this is more reasonable. This trans has been tested and is stout but the cost of the full Pro outfitted trans would be much more expensive. All of the pieces to build a pro version will be available as well this week.

I just bought a vs4-10 ultra and thought I know it has overdrive gears in the portals, front and rear, so I purchased the standard gear set for rear portals so I would have overdrive front. Now watching this I just heard you say that the vfd transfer case already has overdrive built in so I may have to high of an overdrive front ratio. Can you please verify if the transmission comes out of the box overdriven to the front, or does it require a different gear set to achieve that?
Interested in using this for a moon buggy build. Typically, these buggiea feature a rear mounted engine. Is it possible to flip the orientation and the overdrive output so that the spur gear faces towards the rear of the chassis? Then, for a bonus point, would the DIG fit to the rear out put still? I understand what I want is WAY outside the realms of what you guys were thinking when you designed it!
Since the gear plates are removable and adjustable it would be possible but would require a set of plates we don’t make yet. The dig just wouldn’t fit in that way though.
That’s more of a gimmick type feature as unless you have perfectly even pressure on all tires it makes no difference. You have torque twist on a 2WD truck for example.

I got the phinox kit and i cant get the transmission to work right can i just get the short shafts and just do a like 3 gear it came with a vfd rear trans cover but the shafts are all to long
Can you use an axle that has a centered pumpkin. I really want to put some super shafty Capra 44 axles under the vanquish chassis and vs4 transmission but it looked like the angle for the drive shaft would not work. Am I wrong?

I wish it turned the front driveshaft the opposite direction as the rear to reduce torque twist.

You would need gears, shafts and a skid plate.

It must use a offset pumkin. Vanquish Capra axles would be the better choice.

Will it need the support at the front when fitted to a Wraith based FOFF rig?
There is a screw in the bottom of the skid but it would still be good to support the motor plate up top.
How can I set this up with no overdrive?
The 6.5% is so little that it really won’t be noticeable from normal use.

That’s some Swepco grease, I use VP grease as well but I didn’t have any here at the new studio.

It’s for the VS4-10 chassis, so you would need the chassis and offset front axle.
