    Poor Harrwitz I felt for him under that blistering opening sequence. The Big Words! I expect he would have wished he had known the old Chinese Proverb - ‘A team of Horses cannot overtake a word that has left the mouth’!
    I’ve booked myself a ringside seat for the next match against Anderssen - can’t wait!
    Thanks for your lovely work.

    Great video and very nice game by Paul Morphy...as usual.
    I like too much the music at the beginning, and at the end of the video.
    Best regards sir

    "Tortured" was a great description. Morphy went casually through Harrwitz's defense like it wasn't there.

    This game was a total destruction. I think Morphy was offended by Harrwitz's boasting. Gentlemen don't denigrate their opponents like Harrwitz did.

    So was Morphy a gentleman of leisure from a wealthy family? Old money, or new? What was the source?

    • @historicalchessvideos8017
      @historicalchessvideos8017  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes he was a gentleman and you can find this and many other informations about Morphy in some sources like from books and web sides about Paul Morphy. A book named Morphy The pride and sorrow of chess is one of them and also you can check out edochess batgirl Paul Morphy index on the internet for the detailed history of Morphy if you don't prefere to read the book.

    It is remarkable how Morphy wiggles his pieces in and out of tricky positions so remarkable and I am very angry this had to end this way harwitz was not a sporting opponent robbing us of some genuine competition after all only harwitz came close to challenging Morphy but still three cheers for Morphy what a grand chessmaster great indeed my all-time greatest wow what an exhilarating series this has been enjoyed every moment of it

      Pretty sure Mr. Barnes had the best record against P.C.M. and he still lost.. so idk what your talking about saying harrwitz was Morphys toughest opponent..

      @@giriiyer3968 I can't speak on that.. I dont know if they played each other and the scores if the did.. I know Barnes didnt crap out in the middle before finishing the match tho.. which speaks volumes.. not to mention how bad harrwitz criticized Morphy in the beginning saying it takes very little effort to beat this fellow.. and morphy said he wouldnt win a single game after that.. and he didnt.. he only drew.. barnes was by far the toughest for morphy.. now as to whos the better master between harrwitz and barnes.. idk lol let me do some research real quick

      @@fahhque5702 yes sir. The same over here. I'm also a huge Morphy fan. And also of the romantic era. By the way Morphy- Barnes is 19-7 I believe. While harwitz-morphy is 2.5-5.5. And also remember harwitz insulted Morphy very badly and tried to belittle him. The reason I believe Morphy went all aggro on him. Otherwise I find morphy is a gentleman and generally kind towards his opponents. By the way thks for your quick reply. It's just a feeling I get that harwitz is better than Barnes. I have no proof.

    I think this is a modern normal game nothing spectacular piece up and go for endgame to harwitzs credit he fought for sixty moves too long even by modern standards notice how Morphy doesn't take any risks with quality opponents he is a good judge of quality still you can see glimpses of Morphy brilliancy in endgame

  • @giriiyer3968
    @giriiyer3968 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    After taking the Knight I think Morphy simply stopped analysing and simply went for piece exchange. There was nothing to it after that.
