But Holley does sponsor Cleetus, so it might be harder to change than we realize. There may be contracts involved for example. But yea, the crank sensor problem is a known problem with Holley.

Thought the same thing lately, like ok ready to get back to Leroy. Mullet just doesn't get down the track anymore. Seems like after the 1st few handfuls of spin they would've turned it way down to at least get runs then worked back UP.
With all the different cool things he’s done this channel, I still feel like my favorite part of these videos is just watching Cleetus and his team work. Can definitely tell his guys love working for him!

The James and Ruby combination wins races.
When James first raced Ruby, he put all those stickers on the back of her and made Ruby his. Then Cleetus would race her every now and then, and now she’s just getting handed around. I think she likes James the best, it was her first love!

Here's a thought on Mullet, yrs ago I used to sand drag a 2442 turbo type 1 vw and it would do the same thing with its fuel pump, running a Bosch 044 it would lean out, so I went to 2 Bosch 044 pumps, 1 for each 1/2 of the eng amd presto magic no more fueling issues..Just a thought..
They run a crank driven mechanical fuel pump
i think they run a belt driven mechanical pump for the methanol system but it may be undersized. or it could be that the pump is sucking down the fuel too fast and grabbing air 🤷

First off, congrats to u and Maddie for the Cleeter on the way. Big thing in a persons life.
Secondly, racing exponential curve of time and effort for tiny results.
As any top fueler tearing down motors between runs for minimal gains.
There comes a time where the fun in racing is limted to the seconds in the seat. The hundreds of hours prep with lists and double and triple checks are hard work to stay in it.
But, like the saying goes, if you not in the race you are a 100% loss.
Just head down and one foot in front of the other.
Consistency and persistence gets you on the podium.
The quicker you are, the easier it becomes to have a bad day.
You got a good bunch of people around you, and a good supporting wife next to you that enjoys what you do. You are blessed brother.

Seen this on Nate’s channel … have you checked end float on the crankshaft?!? Could it possibly be moving enough to interrupt the reluctor wheel signal ?
If it moved that much there would be no thrust bearing left. Also oil would be pouring from the seals
@@williamstamper442 I’m not talking massive amounts of float that that it doesn’t hit the reluctor wheel all together champion ! It’s got to see a constant signal from the reluctor wheel and if you laterally move it enough it could break the signal. Could also be a damaged reluctor wheel too
@@beardbuilds5140 hall effect sensors have up to 1/4 or more laterally before they lose signal. Put a meter on it and try it sometime on the engine stand

While you have your engine on the stand give one of the reluctor wheel teeth a a gentle tap with a hammer and see how much just a little section of misalignment does for your meter readings . You don’t have to fold a tooth over or anything drastic either !
If you’re so sure I’m wrong what is it then ? They have completely required the crank sensor and it has happened to multiple sensors so it can’t be due to age of a sensor and it being excessively heat effected

can someone just rewire Ruby's engine harness, clearly there's something wrong with it if no amount of sensors will stay working on it.
I feel like the McFarland team might getting spread a little thin on all the events and multiple car projects....its cool you guys have kind of reached out into all kinds of motorsports but a small team can only work on so many vehicles at once and you can only go to so many events without a break
@@fast97z24 they keep hiring people to specialize in one thing to take the load off of people having to focus on multiple things. Problem is that only last a little bit and start having them do multiple things again plus the new guy starts having to do multiple things. Only way to make it work running a business like he is and a race team at same time is for the business and race team to have separate personnel and the business side only cross over for specialized stuff in a emergency. If they want the race team stuff to go smoothly they’re gonna have to have it where there’s someone assigned to each car and only thing they do is focus on that car at all times and that person coordinates with someone on the business side when there’s something that they can’t do aka tye coming over to the race team side just long enough to do a turbo kit or repairs then straight back to the business side. They’ve exceeded the amount of projects and vehicles that you can have without having to split it up to keep it from effecting performance and results. For example using the guys they already have instead of fake names would be George focus on rocky and only rocky and not touch any other car ,James focus on ruby and only ruby,Zack focus on mullet and only mullet. Otherwise stuff gets missed or you run out of time and stuff heads to the race unfinished

Love seeing people win stuff! ..also, something has to be overloading Ruby's CPS. Try an in-line voltage regulator before the sensor for a easy fix. (the sensor *should* have its nominal voltage printed on it). ...edited for all the youtube experts with nothing but shade to cast. Hope y'all figure that some-biscuit out. 🇺🇲

@@majcrash I'm assuming the sensor runs on 12v. But I would try a regulator for the appropriate voltage. (just my 1st guess being a master electrician). ..2nd guess would be that the sensor is getting too much heat from something near by, but the 2nd sensor was done seconds after it was installed, so I would bet money it's being overloaded with too many magic pixies(electrons).

I could be wrong on this but the last ECU I used (not a Holley) the sensor power, sensor output and ground are all straight from the ECU. It was regulated and filtered with a few caps. I'd be surprised if Holley didn't account for 16v race systems.

Is there a reason you guys don't run foam in the tank on mullet? I'm guessing it would keep the pickup on the pump much happier if it wasn't just a hollow tank where the fuel can slosh around at over a G of acceleration
Meth/ alcohol would deteriorate that foam like no other, that’s my guess

@@tyr427 they degrade faster than they claim so you still need to swap it out to be safe every season

If it was easy there would be no point.
Cleeter is right about the shop, if he wants to run consistently and not get trounced by lesser cars, going to have to actually test and tune a lot more.

It’s nice to see that even a program with infinite resources, a full team of full time and talented hands, unlimited access to a dyno and drag strip, and the finest parts available can completely blow it at an event.
They’re spread to thin with all the projects and the race team side of it being combined the business side(projects)and race team side need to be completely separate operations that work with each other when needed

A fuel cooler might help with Mullet. Hot fluids carry more air. Keeping the fuel cool might help keep it dense and keep it from cavitating.
Not needed with methanol
I wonder if it is something to do with the methanol sloshing around in the tank? Perhaps the situation would improve if they installed some baffles inside the methanol tank.
Can't wait to see Mullet at a perfect track on a perfect day to see what it can really do! It has way more power capability than has been used yet.
Spot on. I got crucified for saying that on Cleeters instagram a few weeks ago but guys don't realise the car is tuned for what the track can hold, temperatures, atmospheric pressure etc etc. It ain't 3000hp everytime lol in fact I don't think they've even got close yet.

I’m so happy the boat went to an automotive mechanic. I’ve hired so many automotive mechanics to come over and train as HD mechs on port equipment. They get screwed over. Shit wage. Pay for their own tools. And work in dealership sweatshops.
