Now, hearing your talk about it and how much it means to you, I’m totally for you retiring the old girl. My point is, no matter what you do Derek, we support you and what you do for us, the people who love this channel.

Brought a tear to my eyes listening to you talk about Independence, and how much she means to you and all us fans 😢 That car literally built VGG (with all yours, and your families blood sweat, and tears). Sorry for your loss Derek
I just love the fact that I went from watching a feller racing a beat down Monza in a field to a feller racing a SST at Bristol! Keep up the good work!
Derek your such a great fella! I'm sure you'd give the shirt off your back if you came across a cold sasquatch out in the woods. Thank you for all that you do and know that your generosity does not go unappreciated!
Derek, if you happen to see this let me just say that you have single handedly inspired me to chase my passions in life. At first I wanted to work on old cars and restorations to put it on the Tubes of You, but don't quite have enough of those green printed things to do that yet. But I recently finished a low budget resto on my 80's Camaro and have been using it to try and find a job working at various performance shops. Thank you for that. On another note, Independence has become an icon. My vote would be to bring her home, put in some TLC to bring her roughly back to where she was before the one rear quarter came off. Throw the airbrushed 454 back in with matching valve covers and let the old girl be. Then maybe at some point you could grab a little bit bigger trailer, that way you could bring the new burnout car to compete, and bring Independence out still to let everyone see and appreciate the old girl.
As much as I love watching independence I agree maybe time to let the old girl get some rest, love the paint scheme for the first responders, amazing video as always.Kinda brought a tear to a guys eye when you stepped out and everyone was chanting USA🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸Take care and God Bless
I’ve watched probably 20 different videos from Bristol coverage experience and of course yours is the best. You have a way of making a video. Such a big hearted very talented man. Much much respect to you sir!! Glad you gave back to a charity😇🙏🏻
I’m so happy you and Matt from demo ranch are hanging more. Two of TH-cam’s most wholesome humans. A fella just needs to make a trip to Texas and have some fun on his channel.
Also, Navy vet here, give the chevelle a retirement and put a new body on it. Turn it into a memorial in you’re yard and make independence glorious as it should be.
Another navy vet here, formerly a texan. If you get back down to texas please take a moment and try a mesquite cooked brisket or brisket sandwich you can thank me later lol
Longtime subscriber here: My dream car is a early 70's Chevelle. Watching you take Independence and rip it has been awesome for me. Thank you Derek. I one day hope to achieve myself a Chevelle as well.
You had a great run, Derek! Thank you for giving the flagship vehicle such a great life. She's done us all so proud! I think it's time to put her up, and build Independence 2.0. We can build her again.. Bigger, better, stronger.
I agree with the other commentors. It is time to build Independence 2.0 and retire the original. She has served you well and has earned her retirement.
Thanks Derek, Jessica and family! The only thing better, is when I make it out there with you! Until then, appreciate you and your families efforts making this happen 👊!
Fun times Derek & Jessica...American motorsports racing and a big ol' "1776" plus stars and stripes on the side. Way to have fun, give the fans a show and keep it clean. Keep on truckin', fixin', racin', findin' and drivin' old and cool iron. We love it!
Perhaps turn the independence into some sort of yard art, or maybe mount on a tall pole or park in an appropriate spot near the shop and plant some red, white, and blue flowers in it.
Independence 2.0 No doubt. Would love to see it. You can retire the old body for a much deserved rest. Great video Derick. I really like that you are a down home guy. Be safe buddy.
First, as a veteran myself, I really appreciate everything you all do for charity. I think the hot setup is to find a clean Chevelle from the Southwest, as there won't be the rust issues that the Independence has. Or, put the Independence Powertrain/driveline into the Monte Carlo. That would make a nice burn out car, and, you already have the car, so it's a win-win.
Agree, find another Chevelle, preferably another '72 and either swap the body onto the present frame/driveline or move the driveline to it and keep the paint scheme going as much as possible. I'd leave the Monte Carlo as is as it's got it's place as a tribute car to the 70's.
You went from “Come on! Kick the rods out of it!” To Bristol baby! Derek we’ve loved watching what you’ve done with independence, preserving what’s left of her is important too. We’re behind ya bud whatever the decision is. Thank you and your family for all your hard work!
I have got to say how completely blown away I am at the overall lack of concern shown amongst competitors for one another!! Even more mind bottling to me is that some of the competitors seem proud of their ability to be rude and not show common courtesy, morals, or values. Causing a wreck or being in a wreck is not an accomplishment nor is it what the sport of racing is about. That being said........ I would like to applaud Derek for being an incredible Human and an all-around genuinely great person. I am a huge fan and I think that you and your family are absolutely amazing people. I appreciate everything you all do and the sacrifices you and your family make for your fans. After the race was finished, you were the only person there who cared and expressed concern over the other driver's wellbeing as well as concern for the cars being damaged. In my opinion......... this is what sets you apart and puts you in a category of your own which is hand over fist better than most. This is also why you have such a loyal fan base and the main reason why the people who are your fans (myself included) choose to support you and watch all of your videos. You are an incredibly down to earth, caring and generous person Derek and please dont ever let that change. You genuinely care about our country and support our armed forces and first responders........ You are a great father and husband and a true family man............You inspire and motivate people beyond what you are even aware of and this world needs more people like you in it!! I have a huge respect for you and Jessica and your boys.......... Keep on doing what you do and just keep on being you! Thank you for all that you do and know that it is much appreciated!
Awesome effort in all the events. Independence has definitely played a significant role in getting your channel to where it is. All the popularity and recognition of it makes it deserving of retirement. Pull the engine/trans/electronics, make it a rolling chassis and find a place to display it and build another 2.0 version to compete with.
Great work and beautiful look at the weekend!! Independence-That rig gave it's all for you and your family so maybe bend her back into the best shape you can, swap in a less hot version of that big block and keep taking it out and letting all the fans see and experience just being near it. As for the current running gear-dig a a little more solid starting platform out of your tree row, pull your own version of that beautiful paint scheme , maybe even spring for a 12 bolt unit and two words.."Independence Reloaded". Thank you for all that you do!
I came to this channel for the Revivals, but I stayed for this kind of stuff. I enjoy watching you race and love the HRPT and SIck Week events! My wife and I love watching. Thanks for all the great vids!
Thank you for supporting those first responder families. I’ve seen what it does for families that go through a tragedy like that; and to use the iconic patrol vehicle, so good. I miss driving those crown vics since they’ve been phased out of our cruiser fleet. Cool to see them running on the track.
It's so awesome you participate in Cleetus events. It's badass to see yall come together and support eachother. You're so well known now that you're racing SST?! Did you ever imagine this would be your life? This is awesome.
Derek, please find another early 70's Chevelle (or Malibu or Monte Carlo, etc) to put the running gear and other performance parts and systems into...and a "1776-ish, red, white and blue with stars" paint job would seal it and decorate it up nicely...you know why. ;)
First off...Derek and Fam..yer a class act.. the stadium truck performance was so cool...dang I can't imagine...well I can, just was a 1979 Ford pickup, of the two wheel variety.... But the engineering in those trucks is amazing! I'm sorry about Independence....for me, that was a tough pill to swallow, the way she hit the wall, I knew it warent any good for the ol girl...but the way she went out, is appropriate, guns ablazin!! Thanks for ALL your hard work and time behind the scenes to make this the best channel on the you tubes! God Bless America!
That Independence Chevelle has helped you grow a lot I do know that I was here before that but your numbers did get a whole lot higher after you got it and started building it and using it
Absolutely Incredible! Always 100%, Always about Charity, Always just a great Man and family! You Jessica, the boys, and everyone associated with you are just Good Humans! Keep it up. Couldn't be prouder to be a fan!
Bristol was epic… we watched you on PPV and it was awesome to see ya come in 2nd place with Independence 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 hope all the damage will come out…. And the SST was so awesome to see ya racing.. and of course Congrats for a finish in the Bristol 1000!!!! And for your amazing content and family values that you share with us every week you are one of a kind 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 👍🏻💪🏻🤙🏻…. I honestly believe that would be good to retire this Independence she has been an epic car and become a fan favorite for sure…. Could start an Independence 2.0
I was at Bristol screamin’ for my boy VGG the whole time! That wreck WAS nasty. I was standing against the fence about 5 feet from where he went into the wall. Had to duck to avoid shrapnel. Gnarly
Dude it was so awesome to see you race in person! Although I almost cried when your tire blew there at the end, but damnit, you finished the race! that's a win in itself!
@@ViceGripGarage I was proud to be there! You were who I came to root for! I was so worried you were gonna wind up out in that huge pile up in the beginning! Still proud as hell to have you down in our state now man! You ever find yourself in Knoxville I've got a pontiac 350 with gto heads and a dinner that have your name on em!
Glad you had some good days in Bristol. Looks like you had a blast. Another vote for Independence 2.0 with a replacement body on the original chassis. Take one side of the old 1.0 and mount it in the shop for wall art to remember her by. She got a second life thanks to you and you brought a lot of fun to so many people with her.
Hey Derek my advice on what to do about Independence: pull the driveline brakes steering and suspension, preserve what's left of the shell, straighten and repair to the best of your abilities. Maybe the way around saving what's left of the shell would be to make your own quarters rockers and pillars in behind what's there to brace the original body pretty much put a body under that one or vice versa. Sure after the body is "rebuilt" just throw a big block mopar in it nothin fancy with a 727 behind it keep the rear gears and throw a line lock in it. Turn it into a streetable burnout car, it could be in the rotation of your daily drivers. Because of you and those that helped you with it along your way that body is a piece of motor sports history, one day it could be in a museum. Just my advice, I'm a long time fan of your channel and what you do. Keep on saving old rigs and of course bringing the thunder.
Independence is still an awesome machine sure you will do something that all us fans will appreciate. Thanks Derek and family you guys and gals are awesome
Thank you Derek as a 30 plus year FF and a veteran I just wanted to send my Thanks for the support and for your continued videos..I enjoy watching a guy turn some wrenches. God bless you and your family..
That’s awesome.. honoring first responders. While volunteer firemen don’t see the amount of calls that they do in the big cities, we do it for free. Out in the rural areas, it’s good to know somebody’s coming.
I love Bristol, it’s been a few years since I’ve been down there for a NASCAR race. Had hospitality passes where we were able to get right down on the track and walk along pit road as well.
As much as I love watching independence, I wince every time there's a wall tap. Put the drivetrain in something you care less about, straighten up independence best you can and put a basic NA big block in it to keep it as a driver. (Or Do whatever you want with your car - I'll happily watch no matter what). Thanks for all you do!
RIP Independence - the first ViceGrip video I ever watched was when you got the car. I watched you work on that car in the motel parking lot and I was hooked. I’ve watched every one of your videos since then. Even got myself an Independence t-shirt. Love your channel and appreciate all the hard work you and the family put in each week. God Bless 🇺🇸
Man you were the main reason I went to bristol. Watching yall just absolutely tear it up was absolutely the most beautiful thing I have ever witnessed.
Derek, I've been a subscriber for a number of years and really appreciate you and Jessica a lot. Listening to your genuine concern for all the drivers as you showed the damage at the end of the video, especially showing that crumple in the trans tunnel on Hailey's car, yeah. I know how hard of an impact it takes to do that and I felt what was in your voice. I appreciate the way you represent this fine country of ours.🇺🇲🦅🇺🇲🦅🇺🇲🦅🇺🇲🦅🇺🇲 You are definitely a fella can stand with on any given Sunday. 🤙
What an amazing weekend! Thanks for taking the time to shake so many hands, was a pleasure to meet you in person! We had a great time and already have plans to go back next year! By the way, where'd a guy get those little red scooters, those things were fast!
I want an autograph from JESSICA. We all know she is the real force behind this amazing channel! We all know she is silently working her tail off in the background.
I really enjoyed watching. I love watching VGG reminds me of my younger days as a profssional mechanic and dirt tracker in S E Kansas. Work injury ended both basically. Would love to run the ovals again even asphalt, but fund shortage stops it.
Derek accept the inevitable take a picture of the Chevelle, take out engine and anything salvageable. Get a crusher to turn it into a block. Attach a picture of what it was, it will be a memorial to what you did with that particular car. It will take up less space, won't be rusting away anymore. A memorial is better than outside in the rain and elements.
Many of my favorite UTubers were at the show, including you Derek and family. Super dude, and Family, Gentry and Sons Trucking, Milliniem Farmer we’re showing it also. You guys look like you had a blast! I wish I could attend that show. I would have been in care heaven
Sleeperdude and his family were thrilled to shake Derek’s hand while he was on the phone. Sleeperdude’s channel is 100% family friendly like VGG. I love that about both of them
Hunt the Front are our hometown boys from Milton FL. They've had a long legacy of dirt track. Good ole southern Raceway here in Milton. Great action packed video Derek
Man I knew from episode one that you were destined for great things. It's awesome to see such a good guy reaping the fruit of his labor. Hey we all Love Independence, and we could agree that by retiring her now, she'd be bowing out on a high note. I say straighten her out, swap in a decent powertrain, and pull her out ever now and then. She deserves that.
straighten it out and run it.... weld the damn body together who cares, don't retire the body, I love the rustic look and its what makes the independence Chevelle.
Just said hi back to him. LMAO! Smiled the entire episode. Keep Independence and swap a basic small block for driving. The body panels are cheap and Chevelles are easy to work on. Patch it and show it. We all love that car! 😊✌️
When you were doing the walk-around of the Independence Chevelle aftermath, I could tell that you were genuinely upset about it.... not gonna lie, I was a little choked-up myself. But honestly, letting the old girl rest in peace and creating a "new Independence" might just be the way to go. Would you want another Chevelle, or a different model to put that drive-line into ? Maybe a LeMans or Monte Carlo (A-body car) ?
This was such an awesome event, my wife and I drove down from Pittsburgh and enjoyed every minute. Independence looked awesome out there, a well earned trophy and a hell of a send-off if you do retire the body. It was great to finally meet you! God bless you, your family, the USA and all who serve in any capacity! 👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🏁 also, we wrote in Chad as one of our favorite people on the event comment card 😄 - suburban guy
Absolutely amazing Derek! I've been a long time follower and I've always enjoyed your content and your creativity. Someone else has already said this but the way that you do your videos your personality the way you speak and the connection that us's viewers have with you as unlike 99.86% of anyone else out there doing it. Such a gentleman and a pleasure to watch and as weird to say I kind of feel like I know you and I'm proud of it!
You did great in each event Derek. Keep up the awesome content. Can’t wait for the new Motor Trend show, and what you have in the pipeline for this channel.
That was the best time ever, think I will watch that ONE MORE TIME. Thanks to all , Independence will ride again. ( with new parts). GOD BLESS AMERICA 🇺🇸. THANKS VGG

In like a little glass building, or a 3-wall carport - so it's out of the weather, for the most part. Preserrrrrve on 'er, just a lil bit.
Or auction them old panels for charity after a body swap rebuild.
Mounted on a wall is such a great idea. I've seen that with classics and supercars.

The Chevelle is ready for the museum Derek! Swap the drivetrain into another cool car. A Subaru Brat would be pretty awesome!
Derek we really appreciate you signing merch and just being a great dude all around. Makes a fella smile.
Appreciate ya
I’ve watched probably 20 different videos from Bristol coverage experience and of course yours is the best. You have a way of making a video. Such a big hearted very talented man. Much much respect to you sir!!
Glad you gave back to a charity😇🙏🏻
The charity you have given to is a great one! Thank all y'all!
Derek, keep racing, rubbing, ripping, and restoring! You are such a great man and keep us fans laughing, crying, and living on!
Such a good guy! Always giving back to those who give so much. Thanks for all you do Derek. 👍
Derek, you’re salt of the earth. Thank you and Jessica for all the great things you all do for charity and us. Y’all are the best channel on YT!
I would love to see CAPRICE vs CROWN VIC....police cruisers. racing.......my guess it would not be a contest.
Longtime subscriber here: My dream car is a early 70's Chevelle. Watching you take Independence and rip it has been awesome for me. Thank you Derek. I one day hope to achieve myself a Chevelle as well.
Thank you and God Bless Derek for taking us along. Thank you Jessica and the boys for sharing and giving up all the time to let Derek bring us too!!
Put whatever you need under it. Just make sure independence looks the same. Thanks for all the great work keep it up.
Fix independence up and keep her around running and driving but find another not so clamped out chevelle and call it the freedom chevelle
@@BUILTFORDTOUGH79 I appreciate that
You went from “Come on!
Anyone that constantly hits or wrecks others should not be asked to come to any other events.
@@scottinWV I 100% agree with you!
This was my first cleetus and cars event and got to meet all my favorite youtubers, even got to meet Derek and Jessica. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!!!
You were a busy dude in this wild event. Thanks for covering it and for your support of the First Responders Children's Foundation.
It's so awesome you participate in Cleetus events. It's badass to see yall come together and support eachother. You're so well known now that you're racing SST?! Did you ever imagine this would be your life? This is awesome.
Was nice to get to meet you in person. What a fun event can’t wait for the next one.
You never fail to put on a great show !! Thank you
That Independence Chevelle has helped you grow a lot I do know that I was here before that but your numbers did get a whole lot higher after you got it and started building it and using it
Absolutely Incredible! Always 100%, Always about Charity, Always just a great Man and family! You Jessica, the boys, and everyone associated with you are just Good Humans! Keep it up. Couldn't be prouder to be a fan!
Thanks Richard
Agreed, it's time to go to the back 40. You have lots of memories!
That sir was bad ass !! Enjoyed all the footage. Retire Independence, that’s been an awesome ride for you and the family.
Strategy paid off! Thanks for coming
Thank you for the support!
You did awesome at Bristol! I really hope to see you at another Stadium Super Trucks.
I loved this video, who would have thought Independence would have gone on to be a burnout and a drag car.I loved it from the first video.
You and your wife are so awesome derek. Im proud to be watching all your videos and i have been for a long time
Derek,
I've been a subscriber for a number of years and really appreciate you and Jessica a lot.
Listening to your genuine concern for all the drivers as you showed the damage at the end of the video, especially showing that crumple in the trans tunnel on Hailey's car, yeah.
I know how hard of an impact it takes to do that and I felt what was in your voice.
I appreciate the way you represent this fine country of ours.🇺🇲🦅🇺🇲🦅🇺🇲🦅🇺🇲🦅🇺🇲
You are definitely a fella can stand with on any given Sunday. 🤙
Derek, you've come a very long way from the beginning of VGG. Your living a blessed life. Keep growing and enjoy every moment...
This is why I like this Feller. He understands what’s important and he loves automotive history…. The ingredients for a patriot.
Independence has lived a good life... Time for a new Independence 2.
Love me some Friday night vice grip garage. Thank you Derek for yet another great one. Here's to a few wobbleypops my buddy.
What an amazing weekend! Thanks for taking the time to shake so many hands, was a pleasure to meet you in person! We had a great time and already have plans to go back next year! By the way, where'd a guy get those little red scooters, those things were fast!
Jungle website, 30 mph, thanks for coming out!
Let’s Go, appreciate you having us along. Catch you on the next one, Keep It Safe Out There Sir
"Great Idea"! Let's do it! 👍👍👍
Thanks for the support. 🚒🇨🇦
I want an autograph from JESSICA. We all know she is the real force behind this amazing channel!
We all know she is silently working her tail off in the background.
You and Sleeper Dude need a TN collab!
This was the best coverage of the event I have seen. Thanks, Dereke and team.
I just want to say thanks to all the folks that helped Derek put this on thanks Robbie Gordon
That was the best looking rig out there!! The truck and the car
You did us all proud, Derek! thanks for sharing it with us all!
A nice memorial in the yard with a big flag pole flying ol’ glory and independence sitting at the bottom and a nice new chevelle to carry the legacy.
Derek, those stadium trucks look like so much fun! I am glad to see everyone is ok.
👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🏁 also, we wrote in Chad as one of our favorite people on the event comment card 😄
- suburban guy
Wish I knew you. I'm in New Cumberland wv I'm only about 30 minutes from Pittsburgh I could have went with you to see a fellow. Lol
And here i am in Mckeesport 😒
Absolutely amazing Derek! I've been a long time follower and I've always enjoyed your content and your creativity. Someone else has already said this but the way that you do your videos your personality the way you speak and the connection that us's viewers have with you as unlike 99.86% of anyone else out there doing it. Such a gentleman and a pleasure to watch and as weird to say I kind of feel like I know you and I'm proud of it!
It’s amazing to see how much effort, work and heart went into this event for the people. You’re all amazing
You did great in each event Derek. Keep up the awesome content. Can’t wait for the new Motor Trend show, and what you have in the pipeline for this channel.
We all know the wild drivers lol. I love em, but I'll name em. Dave and Dave
I paid for the PPV just to see you run. But have been on the edge of my seat to see your video.
It’s nice to see all the TH-camrs playing together.
That was the best time ever, think I will watch that ONE MORE TIME. Thanks to all , Independence will ride again. ( with new parts). GOD BLESS AMERICA 🇺🇸. THANKS VGG
I hope you get all that’s out there for you your humble ways are a first in real time videos for forks with less than others and we hope all the best for you and yours !!!!🤙God Speed
