I was 9 years old when this catastrophe occurred. My Maternal Grandmother was staying with us at the time and I so remember all our family sat in horror at the Black and White T.V. crying uncontrollably at the devastation unfolding before our eyes. We used to visit family in South Wales from Mid Wales where I was born and would pass Aberfan on the way. I will never forget the aftermath of that coal slurry and it's spread across that valley. This is etched in my memory for ever, something so profound that touched me to the core. I am a mother myself and can not even begin to imagine the loss of a child. My 'Heartfelt Thoughts' even after all these years go to all those affected. XXXXX Ann
This terrible tragedy happened the day before our wedding, I was born in Birmingham of Welsh parents and have always rejoiced in my heritage, recently heard the Choir at Bromsgrove, so emotional. What a sublime sound they produce. Thank you all.
I will always remember that day, I was born in Penarth and was in my second year of training as a nurse at Cardiff Royal Infirmary, and was in duty in the ER, we waited for an influx of casualties, but non came. Such a tragedy.I will never forget. I am now in my 70s and live in New Zealand, but Wales always tugs at the heart strings. P.S. I was in the same class at Albert Road Junior School as Leslie Ryan, my one claim to fame! Andrea Gene
Im here because of "The Crown" and oh my god it was so upsetting. I can't believe i have never heard of this before but i guess it was such a shock compared to like world war two and other wars that people didn't want to talk about it again, like soldiers with shell shock. I for one shall never forget them, just like i shall never forget the people saved by Oskar Schindler shown in the film "schindlers list".
I hear you, mate. I am here, today, because I see a lot of myself in the show, especially now with corona. I really feel I should do more for people who need it. It's really sad.
To where you are Who can say for certain Maybe you're still here I feel you all around me Your memories so clear Deep in the stillness I can hear you speak You're still in an inspiration Can it be That you are mine forever love And you're watching over me from up above Fly me up to where are Beyond the distant star I wish upon tonight To see you smile If only for a while To know you're there A breathe away's not far To where you are Are you gently sleeping Here inside my dream And isn't faith believing All power can't be seen As my heart holds you Just one beat away I cherish all you gave me everyday 'cause you're mine forever love Watching me from up above And i believe That angels breathe And that love will live on and never leave Fly me up to where you are Beyond the distant star I wish upon tonight To see you smile If only for a while To know you're there A breathe away's not far To where you are I know you're there A breathe away's not far To where you are
The Welsh are among the most stolid people on earth. Many families over history have lived hard lives in the mines. But at the same time they are among the most sensitive and loving of beauty. And of course of their children. Just listen to their music.
Wonderful tribute and has many crying and remembering those lost in this tragic disaster also very informative to all those who watch this thank you 😊🙏🏻👼🏻
All these years after this tragic disaster ,I'm still angry that the national coal board knew from the offset that the slang heap was being built on a stream ,but did nothing.
I utterly adore the Moriston Orpheus choir, I've seen them live. I stumbled across this song and was reduced to total tears. I absolutely remember this event on the Black and White T.V. we had when I was a child and there was 1 reporter that I wanted to smack in the face when he shoved his microphone into the face of a father frantically trying to find his children, clawing with his bare hands at the coal slag. He asked this poor father " How do you feel right now" - how do you think that father felt, how insanely insensitive was that reporter.
Carol Jones well...I did mention about this Aberfan myself ... I am born at Treharris and was work at Merthyr Tydfil Town hall at time when I was heard about awful disaster at the time of year 1966 I can remember very well and very tearful ..... anyway I am deaf myself since birth ... I am very frustrated can’t hear all the choir etc so therefore I wish someone who can put into subtitles for this choir record and hearing people is very lucky be hearing to hear all welsh voice etc .... so Please God help me if can do something who can put subtitles on the record so which will be biggest happy over with moon to be equality to everybody Thank you... of course I am heart full of Aberfan... from Diane F Colville (Nee Griffiths)
Hello Diane, please call me Ann, (there is a reason why I'm not called Carol), but not for now at least. What I can offer you are the lyrics of this song composed by a woman called Linda Thompson who is married to a man called Richard Marx. He, I know to be an American and often is the pianist to the great tenor Andrea Bocelli. He, Richard Marx wrote the musical 'score' for this song. Tell me Diane and I do not wish to be rude/forward/assuming or otherwise in any way at all. But have you ever been to a live Welsh Male Voice Choir - it will rock your socks off !!!!! I've made it a mission of mine to see the greatest Welsh Male Voice Choirs and trust me they never ever disappoint. The vibrations through the floor and the warmth is undeniably fabulous - so takes me back !!! Regards to you, Ann xxx
How very moving and poignant.........Aberfan should never have happened, I still remember that day, all those years ago. 'To Where You Are' was written by Linda Thompson who was once a longtime girlfriend of Elvis Presley.
This was the saddest time I have ever known! My heart bled for all those little children and parents ! I was only young myself when it happened and thought that coal company should crucified. Hope they rot in hell!
I’m from Caerphilly and listening to to this gives me a massive shivers 😭😭😭😭🏴🏴🏴🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🏴🏴🏴😭😭😭

I Saw this serie" the Crown" and i'm searching the name of the beautiful song that the city sing in this terrible day...
Thanks
The song sang at the graveside in The Crown at Aberfan. Is a Welsh hymn called “ Jesu, Lover Of My Soul” to the tune Aberystwyth.
Absolutely beautiful ❤❤❤
Thanks for this wonderful tribute to the lost of Aberfan.
To where you are
Who can say for certain
Maybe you're still here
I feel you all around me
Your memories so clear
Deep in the stillness
I can hear you speak
You're still in an inspiration
Can it be
That you are mine forever love
And you're watching over me from up above
Fly me up to where are
Beyond the distant star
I wish upon tonight
To see you smile
If only for a while
To know you're there
A breathe away's not far
To where you are
Are you gently sleeping
Here inside my dream
And isn't faith believing
All power can't be seen
As my heart holds you
Just one beat away
I cherish all you gave me everyday
'cause you're mine forever love
Watching me from up above
And i believe
That angels breathe
And that love will live on and never leave
Fly me up to where you are
Beyond the distant star
I wish upon tonight
To see you smile
If only for a while
To know you're there
A breathe away's not far
To where you are
I know you're there
A breathe away's not far
To where you are
That was such a beautiful verse thank you so much for sharing,
