  • This is a quick video I shot while I was working on a Sony D6C portable tape recorder. I have never seen a mech like this in a portable tape player before.

I just watched someone remove and replace the same drive belt without taking off that tiny c-clip. Trick is on the left of the small pulley you need to get the belt down and under the perpendicular, left arm of that bracket. It was easily done.

I don't understand why didn't you show how to lift the circuit board and how to mount it back. Really shame...

Why only replace one belt? What if the other belts are made of the same material? Then they should be just as cracked after 30-something years as the one you replaced.

My motto with old tech, especially considering I'm not a professional, is "If it ain't broke don't fix it". The main belt is crucial for the machine to function properly so it has to be replaced. The other component that needs the belt (the tape counter) works for now and even if it stops it's not the end of the world. So basically either only the tape counter *possibly* breaks in the future or you possibly break something more important while trying to replace all the belts.

    Hi there,
got a question, I've got one of these that needs among other things, a full belt replacement. Anyway, other thing I noticed is that when I connect a mic and try to get some sound recorded or coming out of it , it doesn't do anything, in other words, the "mic line in" seems to be completely dead. Do you know what it might be? Thanks!

I have one of these recorders. I should have a look at it and try and find a service kit for if needed.
Where did you buy the belt kit ?
    Please.

Hi, i used a very very small Jewellers flathead screw driver and took my time.
I masically put my thumb on the other side and used the screwdriver to push it off. I have to admit i did get my finger a couple of times but i got it off in the end

I replaced the belt with a new one, but no success so I think I am now going to dump it.
