This was the first thing I thought of when I watched Dredd. Simple premise but the action more than makes up for it. I love that they did not use shaky cam on the action and as you pointed out, we can clearly see their faces so we know it's not stunt doubles (or if they did use stunt doubles, it was very subtle and minimal) . I wish more real marial artists get work as actors or just make stunt people actors since they're martial artists already so we can get more raw action scenes like this.
After "Raid 2" there is one movie witch is even more brutal and insane. "The Night Coms For Us" with Iko and Joe Taslim (Sergeant Jaka) And FYI Mad Dog is the fight choreographer and music was done by Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park
4:15 Gareth Evans can actually speak and handle a convo in Indonesian. If anything, iirc he didn't know how to swear in Indonesian at the time which Iko taught him how.
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong: but I think both raid films were done mostly in old Jakarta which was irreparably damaged during a major earthquake back in the day.

I think Dredd was already in production before this came out so it's a coincidence that they turned out so similar. The bosses talking over the intercom in both films could have been inspired by the radio DJ in "The Warriors"
As much as the setup is similar, the movies and what they tell is so different in various ways. Of course the movies in themselves and the story of a caracther are quite different as we can obviously see that Rama is not Dredd. Doesnt act like him speak like him think like him fight like him. But then again, I might be the crazy one and overanalyze psychology of persons in movies. Dredd is quite something of a caracther study. Rama doesnt give much in regards to his psyche or personal life (The Dredd movie does a lot for those who know Dredd from outside the Hollywood world). Rama can fight, Dredd relies more on his firearm and gadgets. Dredd is a one man army pretty much (A judge does not need assitance, he has a trainee with him and not by choice) where as Rama goes in with a team (which they werent even supposed to be there).... Its kinda funny that people see many similarities in both. But other then being in a building where the person of interest resides on top of the complex and has access to control most or all people in the complex those 2 films have nothing to do with each other. I obviously prefer The Raid, by far. I love Dredd as a character, just the Dredd movie wasnt enough for me.... Its more like a slice of life in his life than an actual movie involving him as a person.
You know what to watch next, mate: The Raid 2. Evans puts everything to 11 for the sequel. FYI Ruhian (Mad Dog) is back in The Raid 2, playing another character (of course Evans didn't want to waste Ruhian's incredible fighting skill)
And if ever you do TV series as well or just a personal recommendation if you do like the style of Gareth Evans, Gangs of London. Simply amazing. Gareth Evans has raised the bar for action/Martial Arts cinema. The man's way of filming and his choices of what to show/what not to show is simply on point. Rare are any movies or action scene that I can truly appreciate that have not been filmed by him now.... it is sad in a way but I am glad he keeps his unicity in that aspect. Gangs of London, I can only say watch it, its more then good.

Don't know how many of his films you've seen, so I'll recommend a lesser known favourite of mine "New Police Story" (the 2004 one) I'd also really recommend my all time favourite movie (non martial arts though) called "Synecdoche, New York". I promise it'll be quite unlike anything you've ever seen before. It's a philosophical dark comedy, and it is quite an experience.

The Raid: Redemption is a soundtrack/score album composed by Joseph Trapanese and *Linkin Park's co-vocalist Mike Shinoda,* who also serves as producer for the album. and the guns, they use HK-416 maybe because these cops actor is trained in Frogmen Elite Forces units (Kopaska) from indonesian navy, to learn basics tactical room clearing so they don't look like noobs in the camera. and as long as i know, Kopaska regulary use HK-416 in their mission, or maybe it is they largest amount of weapon in units. you can see by this behind the scenes. th-cam.com/video/L8DHiP8UKIY/w-d-xo.html nice reaction, you seems know a lot for a movie production. good job, very well.
