My Argyle is a Pastel Red Axanthic with het Orange ghost/puzzle. Great video! This has been confusing for me. The breeder listed him as "Pastel RA DH OG/Puzzle"
I just got a het red axanthic cinnimon candino and really dont know much about the red axanthic morph... I haven't been able to find much about it so I'm excited that you have a video on it
@@ChrisHardwickanimaladventures U should! I know I'd love to see that. It being called het really confused me at first and like I said I haven't been able to find much about it... so a video on HRA would be really awesome!
Fun fact: the picture with the Super Pastel Red Axanthic that you see at 3:20 is actually my older sisters snake. She is more beautiful in real life than she is in that picture! :D
I've seen quite a few new genes that look very similar to normal ball pythons with no data on combos, makes me wonder if it's actually a new gene or maybe someone made a mistake? Or maybe is so subtle that people are not buying into it? I usually only do morph videos on genes that have at least some potential.
Hey Chris when is the absolute latest you stop pairing your snakes for the season? I don’t have a ultrasound it’s my first season breeding so I’m stressing and unsure I guess patience is a virtue
I stopped pairing in late February. Last year I kept going but I had some really late clutches and couldn't get the females up to size for the next season.
@@danielfleming409 because it's co dominant meaning incomplete dominance is at play which gives visual hets. From what I understand in the morph world "recessive" means it carries the gene yes but visually the gene won't be seen until you have homozygous recessive genes to get a visual. Technically yes one copy of anything is a het which is short for heterozygous but going by that logic pastels could be het and leopards could be het etc. Overall red axanthic is a gorgeous visual het but if you pair it with another het you get the super form which is homozygous for the double gene red exanthic meaning these guys would have no recessive gene on that locus only dominant red exanthic. I love Genetics and biology my wife and I have been getting ready to go into ball pythons and our first 2 girls are about to come of age so it's been about a 2 and a half years but I can't wait to discover more about the Genetics ^^
Got my last female today now I have two males and six females . I looked at a ton of different stuff thanks alot to you doing these morph profiles . I got a pastel lesser YB 100 het clown for cheep locally I couldn't pass her up . She will go with my banana YB male . Should get some nice combos ,nothing to crazy but still should be nice . My banana is a male maker so if I get a banana male I'll raise him up and put him back to his mom and try for clown .
I thought I heard that if you breed a male maker male back to a female maker female they are all male's. I believe it was Billy at mutation creation ..
There is a paper out now that explains banana/coral glow. While most snakes use ZW genetic sex determination, pythons and boas appear to be XY. Further, they don't have separate sex chromosome, just a region on one of the chromosomes. Further, this allows recombination between these two regions, something that does not occur when you have true sex chromosomes. Banana/Coral Glow are sex-linked. Females are never "makers" as they would only give an X, but males are "makers" depending on whether they received the gene from the Y, father, or X, female. Also, there is some recombination between the gene and the sex-region, so you can occasionally see an unexpected sex from a banana/coral glow in a hatch.
let me rephrase that.. i have a champagne ball python and i forgot what hes het with.. i know it was an axanthic but im not sure if its a red axanthic or normal axanthic
Not a chance, it will go down a bit if they put a freeze on shipping but that won't last long, maybe 2-3 months max. I'm betting it will really skyrocket, most people will be out of a job looking for some other source of income, breeding snakes is the best!

Some beautiful snakes. What is your favorite combo in your collection?
I love my Pastel Spider Desert Ghost!
Nice, that’s a good looking snake
Great video!!! I have a red axanthic and I been curious about her pattern, I’d like to make more. Thanks
Go for it!
Thanks Chris good luck hope you get some soon
Thanks 👍
Thanks Chris for that video it was great
No problem 👍
Its crazy how the Rest Axanthic seems to almost acts like Cinnamon in a lot of these combos. Absolutely stunning!
It's a pretty awesome gene!
Can you do a video on motley ball pythons there's not much out there on them they seem to look normal unlike in retics and boas

Amazing combos!
Thanks! 😁
With Red Axanthic being co-dominant, I'm wondering if it's possible to breed this line of Axanthic with one of the recessive lines...
I bet you could!
So what axanthic line is it that you use to create the super form (red axanthic )
It's the 'red axanthic' line. You breed two 'het red axanthic' together and 25% of the time you'll get a 'super het red axanthic' LOL
@@ChrisHardwickanimaladventures how is it not a recessive gene the if you need to use 2 hets

I finally got eggs super exciting got them all set up in my incubator my first ever ball python eggs

How much does a pied ball python normal cost?
Not an fancy one just normal peid
I'd say on average a hatchling will run about $300, more or less depends on where you get it. A mature female ready to breed can run you $800 or more.
@@ChrisHardwickanimaladventures thanks 🥺🥺👍🏻🤙🏻
Do the same rules apply if you breed to bananas together for the male maker and female maker
Good question! Not sure about that one...

Yea, I try to keep it simple LOL
Why is the single gene called "het red axanthic" and the super is called "red axanthic?" Its not recessive right?
Not sure why they did that, maybe they thought it was recessive at first and the name stuck.
@@ChrisHardwickanimaladventures that's what I was thinking. Keep up the gene highlight videos. I really love them. But makes me spend money..
Lol
How come Noone works with red axanthics these days?

@@ChrisHardwickanimaladventures I'm going to order a couple red axanthic once things kinda get back to normal.
My a true axanthic Het red is alleic with cinnamon and black pastel makes a gargoyle
Good to know!
Chris Hardwick the gargoyle is het Red x cinnamon and the black pastel x het red is the onyx both are amazing combos and act like supers
Their all part of the 8 ball complex. Huffman and the Lori ball are part of it aswell I’m sure there’s a couple more aswell
Do a video on Volta ball pythons I have a male.
I've never heard of that one, it's not listed on Morphmarket...
I think one of my girls might be HRA, bought her cheap cuz she looked funky.
Nice!
