Phil Zuckerman is a national treasure.
His books should be required reading for all people - especially Americans.
Thanks to everyone for this fascinating interview.

I've heard of Phil Zuckerman. We need Secular studies in every school in the USA.

I really wish this show was on a regular TV channel. More people would be exposed to this information.

Earlier whatever people couldn’t control they called God. Then they created human gods with political motives. Morality never came from religion. It comes from love and compassion.❤

Technology spreads knowledge. Knowledge spreads atheism. It's that simple.

My favorite me issue with Secular movement is that is another tribe to be fought against. This is why if asked I say that I’m a non-religious who studies philosophy to guide my choices in my life.

I don't have sources for this but I took a class in modern anthropology and what I recollect would be a nice addiction to secular education. Why did the second Vatican happen in the 1960s? What motivated the Catholic Church so much to declare such a thing? WWII and blaming the Jews. The Catholic Church has a long history of killing Jews because of blaming them for the death of Jesus. Mel Gibson is famous in part for belonging to an offshoot of Catholicism that rejects the 2nd Vatican and so Mel still blames the Jews. The Catholic Church had much egg on its face. One thought the Church had so as to redeem itself was to empirically prove that Christian cultures were morally superior to non-Christian ones. They ran a scientific study much as Dr. Phil is discussing. The modern Catholic science work has a history of being empirical. The Catholic Church believes in evolution for everything except humans. A Catholic scientist came up with the Big Bang. The question is how would you go about conducting a study? You need data. Fifty years ago when this study was done most countries collected the most data on crimes. So crimes it is. So off goes the Catholic Church to prove that Christian societies are morally superior. And what do they find? No baseline. Yes, before you can make a claim that Christian cultures are superior there has to be some baseline in similarity. Guess what, there wasn't any. Christian cultures varied in crime statistics betwixt each other as much as they did with non-Christian ones. I'm an engineer and this was just a survey course I took in Modern Anthropology decades ago so I have no references, but I always will remember that the Catholic church tried to prove empirically their superiority and couldn't. So, did that cause them and self-reflection as to perhaps the validity of their moral preachings? Ha ha ha! But they did do honest science.

YES, SEPARATION OF RELIGIONS AND STATE !
HOWEVER, REMOVE THE NO TAX STATUS ! IT'S A BUSINESS WITH NO PRODUCT AND FALSE PROMISES AND LIES TO GULLIBLE BELIEVERS TO SUPPORT THEM ! WE NEED TO WAKE AND GET REAL !

I love your program but there is an element of fear in secular culture too. I don't believe one should murder another person. But the fear of the laws, police and being caught do prevent some murders.
