Hey, heroes! I'm streaming on Twitch again this weekend! On Saturday I'll be finishing Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow while on Sunday it's more of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom! www.twitch.tv/merrymarvelite
So essentially, Patsy was an Archie Comics character in a very Archie Comics setting. Even to the point of being the 'Betty' to Hettie's 'Veronica' in a comedic love triangle. This was, of course, back in the Golden Age and when she transitioned into the Silver Age of Marvel, those original stories were retconned into being in-universe comics of a fictional version of Patsy. However, still interesting to see such an Archie-type character transition into a Superhero character. It's like how Hank Pym, in his first appearance, was just a scientist character in a sci-fi adventure one-off. But when Superheroes started to become popular again in the late 50s-early 60s, he appeared again now re-invented as a Superhero.
In a world of fakes, wiki readers and MCU stans- this channel is by far the best and most legit Marvel lore expert on TH-cam! Really hope this channel blows up to counter all the inaccurate and out of context info most "experts" put out there!
Loved this episode. Defenders is a personal favorite (Englehart, Gerber, Kraft... it was a well written book that got lucky with creators) and Hellcat was a classic "bubble head with hidden depths" character. Now, how about Rachel Summers aka Phoenix getting covered?
I only encountered Hellcat through that one story where Moon Knight and the Defenders fight Scorpio and his Zodiac creations. Man did I not realize the history of her. Thank you for yet another video about these interesting characters.
This is so interesting! I never knew Marvel had something like the Archie Comics then turned the main character into a superhero. There’s so much backstory of a regular life before going into the extraordinary
Such a great character with an outside the comics history as rich as an inside the pages history. From an Archie knockoff, to a Marvel superhero, and into Marvel's attempt at a Vertigo line. She is the glue that connects so many different aspects of Marvel Comics. So as long as you've done one redhead superhero how about a video on RED NORVELL, the red headed Thor stand in. As always MAKE MINE THE MERRY MARVELITE!!!!
For years I've heard about this book. But god forbid that I picked it up. But listening to you go on about it has relieved the pain of enduring knowing of it. Great job 👏 👍
Sounds like Patsy Walker was a Archie type comedy character. Then, as the years went on, she got re-packaged into the main marvel universe with superheroes!
When I was a kid the Patsy comic was still around thanks to yard sales and some friends older sisters' abandoned collections and even caught my eye for a second when she (and the Whizzer) cameoed in the FF wedding. But it read as an Archie ripoff to me (with Patsy switching for Archie and maybe Betty) so I didn't give it a chance. But once she showed up as Hellcat (especially once a Defender) she became one of favorites back then. I definitely regret that long interval; I can only imagine how shocking and exciting it'd have been to be a fan of her series and get to watch the transformation from that view-point. Great recap of her history and cool editing with the comic panels.
I totally forgot how cool I thought Patsy was when I was a little kid. The Defenders were very cool back then. I haven't seen some of these books in 40yrs. Thank you
A good example of fact that Marvel does not forget ANYTHING They took a teen romcom book from their Atlas days and a costume Tigra used to wear before she was interesting and they merged them into a fan favorite. Nothing in comics is ever really GONE just...waiting.
The art work for the earlier appearances for Patsy Walker reminded me of the early Archie Comics of the late 1940's. And I remember how Millie the Model Comics went from a Romance Comic in the 1960's, to a Archie-like humor comic about the mid-1960's to the later 1960"s, and I believe early 1970's.
Patsy Walker did have an innocent crush on Reed Richards (founder of the Fantastic Four) when she was a teen... There is nothing wrong with that, and despite being middle-aged, I also have an innocent crush on a 33-year-old woman from Philadelphia.
This character is so easily adaptable to the MCU. Hellstrom can be Mephistos son. Her story of wanting to be a hero would be inspiring. The return of Hulk could make the Defenders a top tier team in future movies. I like side characters like Moondragon and Mad Dog as well.

Can you do history of Moondragon, Mephisto and Blackheart?
Black Cat is an anti-heroine who Hellcat would fight as a Defender. Tigra and Hellcat oddly had very similar origins which would face decades of revisions.
What do you think Hellcat would be like if she her Dad didn't leave her when she was young, if she was in good terms with her mother didn't file a divorce on Daimon Hell storm and so on?
Wow 🤩 always wondered about this character literally hot as hell lol 😂 that’s pretty deep man and you did not just say that the suicide thing lol 😆 good one I respect 🫡 that someone needs to
I might not watch this as I know Hellcat is former model Patsy Walker who became Hellcat and had an abusive husband who became the costumed Mad Dog. I don't know what her character has been doing over the last two decades though.
I imagine the M.C.U. (Patricia “Patsy” Walker) of Earth-616 Realm, she looks different from the version of NETFLIX show (JESSICA JONES) & I imagine that she is a descendant of a InHuman, who I imagine married a woman in the far distant past.

That's because those are Patsy's actual comics from the 40s. Patsy is the only character other than Namor and CaptainAmerica to move from the Golden Age into the Silver Age when Timely became MarvelComics. Her original series was a very popular romance and teen comedy series.

Yep
Patsy's "real" father being named "Stanely" is hilarious, since a certain Stanley Lieber wrote her original comic.
