Sheena Easton was the only artist in the 1980s to have at least one top hit on the four biggest Billboard charts for songs (Hot 100 Chart, Hot A/C, Hot Country Singles & Hot R/B Singles). Her biggest hit on the Hot 100 was "Morning Train (9 To 5)" that her only#1 hit on the Hot 100 Chart. She went to #1 on the Hot Country Singles Chart with "We've Got Tonight" - a duet that she did with Kenny Rogers (it was a cover of Bob Seger's original). She had five top 10 hits on the Hot A/C Singles Chart with her last one being "Almost Over You" in 1983 that went to #4 Though she was featured on Prince's "U Got The Look," the song didn't make the top 10 on the Hot R/B Singles Chart, but her last ever top 10 song on any chart was "The Lover In Me" which peaked at #5 on that chart in 1989 (it went to #2 on the Hot 100 Chart). I would recommend anyone that has not had the pleasure of hearing her voice to go down that "rabbit hole." She was a great singer.
This was her 3rd Grammy nomination in 4 years after For Your Eyes Only and Telefone as best female pop artist She had 2 awesome duets with Kenny Rogers and Prince Outstanding vocalist always tuned and with a voice with a big range from low to high notes :) Plus keyboards' luxury here with Bruce Hornsby
YAAAAZ! Miss Sheena Easton is amazing! She has so many amazing songs! If you want dirty lyrics check out her big hit "Sugar Walls!" Also, check out For Your Eyes Only, The Lover In Me & Morning Train (9 to 5)!
You can see why Prince liked her. Honestly, I loved her slower stuff even more. I prefer her Wind Beneath My Wings to Bette’s because it felt more sincere v. a case of vocal showmanship. Of course, I think When He Shines, For Your Eyes Only (for the James Bond movie), and Almost Over You are my favorites along with her duet with the great Kenny Rogers, We’ve Got Tonight.
I loved how you really got into this song, Dereck! She gets even nastier in a song called "Sugar Walls" from the same album. "Strut" is definitely funky and groovy, so I thought it would be a more fun choice! 😃
You see Bruce Hornsby rocking the keyboards there and lip syching along with the "baby doll" part. He would soonafter have himself a solid solo career of his own, scoring a sixpack of Top 40 hits.
Excellent voice, great albums, she did 2 amazing duettos with Prince, "U Got The Look" and "Orion's Arms", as well she did an incredibly erotic song by Prince in one of her's albums, "Sugar Walls"... Fantastic tracl "Strut" a favorite in my young years...
I must say, i'm not a fan of this kind of music, but there is one song of her i really love, that was the title song of a James Bond move. If you don't know it you should check it out, its called "For your eyes only"
She had a sweet clean image which was great. Then she collaborated with Prince, and she did a 180 and changed her image...which was also great. Her music is varied and very good...I kind of like "You Could've Been With Me"...she shows her vocal range...
It's interesting what Dereck says about "doesn't matter how cheesy lyrics can be, top notch production pulls of the work". I'd say this is exactly what makes the lousy-voiced non-performer Paula Abdul pull off her 1st album. The lyrics are okay, icky elsewhere, but it's wrapped up with the kind of big-bang that helped make Janet Jackson's most decent album "Rhythm Nation 1814". I don't know why you brought up cheesiness here though as these lyrics are among the many coolest the 80s had to offer. Now one might say that's how madonna the vile gets by: all smoke and mirrors, production sheen masking the turds so to speak, except they don't, but as everyone loves everything that vile troglodyte does it doesn't even NEED hiding does it? No amount of production will help disguise a bad Eurythmics single either. Sheena sadly got weaker as the 80s went into the 90s, but she had some good stuff in the 80s, 'Machinery' is one of her best, but the US did not really go for it, and it became one of her last Top 40 singles in the UK. Later collaborations with Prince helped, but the songs began spiralling in quality from 1989 onwards. Still she had one of the better strike-rates of females in the 80s, not least cos she's not an American. And thankfully, despite spending more time over there, her stuff does not tend to sound off-puttingly American in tone.
Why not. The music is not clever and you have many tracks like that at the same year. It's catchy, Lirycs OK. Not a huge but nice discovring. Unknown in France except for some hype clubs that time.
Please stop reading the lyrics as the song plays. It's like watching a movie with the subtitles on, it takes you out of the experience if you are reading along.
Those eyes......man....it does all the talking. She so pretty!
One of the prettiest singers from the 80s!
Yes she is so pretty....❤❤❤❤❤❤

Awesome comment, Frederick! "The Lover in Me" is a jam! I also liked "What Comes Naturally," although that song did not do as well on the charts.

The 80s really wan't afraid to stick some random brass into the music, and I love it.

Saw her in concert . She has quite a range in some of her other songs . She has many hits .

Sheena Easton is a blast ♥️♥️♥️ My teenage crush 🥰🥰🥰

Love the song, Love your reaction.
She is just killer. And man she looks SO good in this video.

From what I've been told prince wrote that for her
Growing up I was so in love with her lol!

She was this sweet shy little Scottish girl, then Prince got a hold of her. God bless his smutty soul RIP

love the song and the attitude that sheena Easton puts into the song
When I first started hearing her in the early 80s I never knew she was Scottish. She does a great duet with Kenny Rogers We've Got Tonight
Sheena ❤
The lyrics to this song is what sells it !!!! ❤
在香港,歌手梅艷芳翻唱了這首歌曲(中文版) 售出了100萬張的銷售專輯。這首歌曲也是她的成名作。
I’m surprised no one hasn’t sampled this song. Great stuff.
Gorgeous and talented Sheena! My fave song by hers is Telefone
Liten to SUGAR WALLS produced by PRINCE aka Alexander Nevermind, fantastic album! Played all the singles at the clubs and all were FLOOR FILLERS!
Telefone - Sheena Easton
Lyrics are a amazing!

I always thought this song was catchy.
She had an incredible voice - she was more successful in the USA than the UK - she fizzled out here unfortunately - but what a talent ❤
In part of the 80's yeah, but then had other hit singles/album in 1988!
I must say, i'm not a fan of this kind of music, but there is one song of her i really love, that was the title song of a James Bond move. If you don't know it you should check it out, its called "For your eyes only"
Sheena is fire bro! Just look at your "Telephone"!
No matter what you do Dereck . DON"T ever have your mouth open around Men my friend ! Believe me on this one !
The ultimate women's power song! She is talking about her man wanting more lust then love and how she is sick of it then leaves him.
Such a great song, you should do her duet with Prince U Got Look, so good.
HE ALREADY DID
