  • EDIT; Mineola action (8/26/16): • LIRR HD 60fps: 4 Hours...
    All LIRR mainline action from 4:00 pm to 5:50 pm (not quite two hours, but close enough). Lots and lots of horn action from M7s, DE30ACs, DM30ACs, and an M3. Even a short MP15AC powered freight operated by New York & Atlantic Railway manages to sneak into the action. Enjoy =)

    Nice stuff! I've only been to the LIRR twice, but I've been really wanting to get back out to Long Island one of these days. This line in particular is incredibly active, even on weekends. I even noticed that one of the DE30ACs in this video had a K5LLA on it. It's very odd hearing that type of horn on a commuter railroad, especially since they're usually only used on SD70ACes or SD70M-2s.

      @JStrop 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      ***** Mineola is a neat spot to go to if you ever have time, because of the junction where the Oyster Bay Branch splits off from the Main Line! And yeah, four LIRR locomotives have a K5LLA horn, and they sound awesome!

    Although the main line rebuild will yield a better operating line, it’s gonna be a bit more boring without all these crossings. This is what made this part of the main line awesome

    +gacj2010 the train car has power even though it's not in contact with third rail. The car will go into coast but since there are many train cars that are in contact with the third rail it doesn't need to go into coast. Even though my rr is the Lirr I have taken the Mnrr on the New Haven line. Between mount Vernon east and Pelham there is a short lost of the third rail and you'll go into coast and then the pantographs will go up. I hope this helps your question.

    At the street crossing , can't some person walk to the left or right on the track and contact the third rail and get zapped also .... how does the train get power at the crossing without third rail ....from cars behind pushing until it gets to it again or somehow through the other cars ??????

    • @FanRailer
      @FanRailer  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, and yes (to the first one). Each individual car is isolated, so as it gaps, it loses traction power and HVAC, but continues to be pushed / pulled along by other cars that are in contact with the third rail. As long as the train is long enough, you can get through a gap without stalling. This is why you don't see 2 car trains (non-revenue). They have the potential to get stuck in a particularly long gap.

      @gacj2010 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    How cool would it be if LIRR operated like Metra Electric? 1) There'd be more stops, improving air quality (as fewer miles will be driven); 2) it'd all be electric, further improving air quality; 3) it's just be more convenient! Also, SIRR should connect w/ the rest of NYC. WTC best not call SI the, "New York Times side" if it won't even connect w/ the rest of NYC.

    • @burdizdawurd1516Official
      @burdizdawurd1516Official 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      GRANDGREENSABRE those DE30ACs have killer horns. It's kind of a mix with a PRR A200 but there's clearly more than one chime. It has this low, bassy tone to it, complimented by the higher 3rd and 5th. I don't know what the horn is, but perhaps the arrangement is a g minor chord?

    • @algorithm1193
      @algorithm1193 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used to swim in my grandparent's pool as a kid maybe 200 yards from the Port Jeff Branch and whenever a DE30AC went by it sounded like Gabriel's Trumpet. I hid underwater until it went by. Those K5LLAs are deafening.
