In the manga, as Byakuya looked at Ichigo, he saw a glimpse of Kaien when he talked about fighting the law. Unfortunately, the anime removed that subtle but important scene.

The implication was that Kaien would've done the same thing. It gave more context as to why Byakuya had resentment towards the Shiba clan that was built up in the arc itself.
You're looking at it on a very surface level simply just because you knew something in the later arcs.
There were more layers than just the hint you spoke of. It was more about the history of Soul Society.

i mean the most he gains is just him compressing it around his blade to give it more power. he never learns anything else. its pretty pathetic and stupid considering he's a soul reaper hollow and quincy. hell throw fullbringer into that. 4 completely different power systems and he just only ever uses the soul reaper one. if he mastered all of them he would be throwing around the quincy leader and turning him into a joke. btw I'm not even going to attempt to spell his name XD. but series he only learned 1 out of the 4 powers he has. massive waste of potential. also his father never telling I'm that he's part quincy was moronic. i can understand when he has no powers but after he became a soul reaper he should have told him.

Imagine the son or relative of an "important person", like a rich or famous or powerful someone. In our world how many times have someone like that done something wrong and completely got away with it bc of their status, that's what Byakuya was trying to prevent.
Senkei (殲景, Slaughterscape; Viz "Annihilate") is a technique of Byakuya Kuchiki's Bankai, Senbonzakura Kageyoshi.
The true form of Senbonzakura Kageyoshi is created by Byakuya's blood, which glows and turns into spiritual energy, mixing with the tiny blades of his Bankai. This unites the scattered petals into complete glowing swords, numbering in the thousands, which form four rows. These rows float just above each other and circle around Byakuya and his opponent in a continuously moving, column-like array. It abandons defense in favor of a concentrated offense. Though visually menacing, this form is not meant for attack from all sides; rather, it concentrates Byakuya's power into fewer blades, thus increasing his attack power. While Byakuya can mentally control these swords as he does his regular blades, he commonly calls them to his hands for actual melee combat. When in his hand, they lose their glow and take the form of his sealed Zanpakutō. While they seem solid in this state, the swords can just as easily dissipate into the multitude of tiny blades which they are made up of. It seems to take fewer blows from a Senkei blade to gravely injure an opponent than the multiple cuts needed from the unfocused Bankai. Senkei cages Byakuya in with his enemy, allowing neither combatant to move very far from each other, though the area is still large enough for maneuverability. The effectiveness of Senkei lies in it allowing for use of all the swords at the same attack level, making it highly versatile as a way to effectively defeat an enemy unaware of the danger of the situation. It is extremely rare for Byakuya to use this ability, doing so only when he has sworn to cut down the opponent with his very own hands. Even when Senkei isn't activated, Byakuya can form identical swords from his base Bankai to be used in combat.

Shūkei: Hakuteiken (終景・白帝剣, Endscape: White Imperial Sword; Viz "Last Sight: White Emperor Sword") is a technique of Byakuya Kuchiki's Bankai, Senbonzakura Kageyoshi.
This condenses each and every single one of Byakuya's blades into a single potent sword, drastically increasing its cutting power. The Spiritual Energy and Pressure this form releases is immense. The blade appears bright white, and its aura takes the form of a bird, earning it the name Hakuteiken (白帝剣, White Emperor Sword). Pure white wings and a halo-like circle, made of concentrated spiritual energy, form on Byakuya's back. The blade can cause aggravated injuries in a single blow, and the wings can be used for flight.

This fight was very symbolic in the finale. It was essentially a battle of ideology. Their aura was black and white respectively to symbolize that
ye i mean, i kinda think Byakuya didn't wanna win, cause let's be honest, Ichigo couldn't move anymore, he could've just turned and shoot kido at him, but he left instead, he also left with shumpo like a gigachad. Shuukei Hakuteiken is one of my favourite moments too, that shit looks sick.
translation wise it means "Final Stage - White Emperor's Sword" (something along those lines).
I mean... If you rewatch it, Byakuya's expression is one of resignation...
I think that after seeing Ichigo refusing to use his hollow spirit to defeat him, he acknowledged that the boy had honour, so he could concede defeat without losing his own honour.
Senbonzakura's blade began scattering as soon as it crossed Zangetsu.
I maintain that it Byakuya doing that.
In the end, I believe he wanted to save Rukia, which is why he threw the fight as immediately explained to Ichigo his reasons...
So, Hollow Ichigo strikes back? That's my fauvorite character in series. He's as blood thirsty as Zaraki and he's much better at using Zangetsu powers, than Ichigo himself... so.. every time he shows up, things get spicy :)
Now, you can call that guy: Hollow Ichigo, or White Ichigo, or just simply: White... although he himself would like to be called other name... (once you watch, you'll hear it, and later in series you'll understand)

-Byakuya's injured hand does not have as much blood spattered on it as it does in the manga when gripping Ichigo's sword.
-Byakuya's hand does not bleed further when he calls down his first sword.
-The wounds that Ichigo and Byakuya receive from their sword lock clash do not bleed as they skid backward.
-Byakuya does not have blood on his face when attacking Ichigo from behind.
-Byakuya's use of Byakurai on Ichigo does not draw a large amount of blood from the exit wound, and the hole in Ichigo's shoulder is obscured by the smoke it is emanating.
-Ichigo's hand does not begin bleeding when Hollow Ichigo uses it to catch Byakuya's blade mid-swing.
-When Hollow Ichigo slashes Byakuya across the chest, part of the scene is grayscaled so that the blood is black for most of its appearance.
-Hollow Ichigo's hand does not bleed when he crushes Byakuya's Senkei sword with it.
The cut on Byakuya's palm is not visible when he opens his injured hand.

Important Changes:
-When they reach the top of Sōkyoku Hill, the Ryoka are not met with a blast of Reiatsu as they were in the manga.
-In the manga, in order to draw more blood, Byakuya moves his hand toward the hilt of Ichigo's sword; here, he pulls his hand back toward the tip of the sword instead.
-In the manga, Senkei is activated by forming Senbonzakura Kageyoshi into a dome around Ichigo and Byakuya that darkens to reveal the four rows of swords; here, Byakuya's spilled blood turns pink and flares up in Reiatsu flames that form the dome, after which the swords appear.
-In the manga, the Getsuga Tenshō fired by Hollow Ichigo is completely black; here, it has a red outline, which will be its standard color scheme for all future episodes.
-In the manga, after firing his first Getsuga Tenshō, Hollow Ichigo moves behind Byakuya and fires another to pin him between them; here, Byakuya dodges the first Getsuga Tenshō and another one fired from above by Hollow Ichigo, who then fires multiple Getsuga Tenshō at once and traps Byakuya in front of them, though the collision is still portrayed in a symmetrical manner as it was in the manga despite the attack setup being different.
-In the manga, after Byakuya cedes victory to him, Ichigo proclaims that he won; here, he instead yells with adrenaline and pride.

@@Angel_Rod That was just Byakuya reshaping his blades to sword-like things, when he released Senkei in this episode he himself said that Ichigo was only the second person to ever see it, few months back Tite Kubo himself was asked who was the first one to see it, but Kubo only said that he couldn't say it yet.
So the reason Ichigo started struggling against Byakuya is because he wasn't used to his bankai yet. The hollow mentions that he was being crushed by his own spiritual pressure and as a result his body was slowing down from that pressure. So if Ichigo had the three days to master bankai then he may have managed to win without the mask with less stress on his body.
What I want to know is why Kisuke didn't train him to use bankai while they had ten days of training. He was literally sending Ichigo to his death by not teaching him bankai. If he came across any other captain besides Kenpachi then he would have died or been put in prison. Not that I'm downplaying Kenpachi. Ichigo was just able to match his intensity and Kepachi loves to screw around and enjoy the fight.
Also there is a great lore explanation for why he can take on two captains with bankai and be the dominant fighter but narrowly lose to a shikai ichigo. Trust me all plot holes are addressed. Eventually.
also too, Byakuya's Senbonsakura was SHATTERED.

I dunno if I'm right here but I think if I consider the whole of Bleach, the maximum number of techniques/moves we know about belongs to Senbonzakura aka Byakuya's zanpakuto. What I mean is I dont think there is any other zanpakuto in the series in terms of number of techniques that we the viewer know about that exceeds Byakuya's zanpakuto
Maybe Hyorinmaru (Hitsugaya's zanpakuto) comes close or has a comparable number of technoques that we know about
Byakuya didn't lose the fight.
Even disregarding Ichigo healing while the hollow power took over and it doing most of the damage to Byakuya
Ichigo couldn't even stand without his sword, Byakuya was still able to Shunpo away.
Byakuya lost the argument and conceded the fight.
Ichigo only won because of the hollowfication so technically it should be a draw like with kenpachi

To be honest tho i remember when watching this it seemed hella sus to me, who the hell would kill someone and put their dead body impaled on top of a building, it was way too dramatic to be realistic, then i was almost convinced because Unohana analyzed the body, so at a certain point i thought i was being paranoid, but it turned out it really was sus lmaoo
