    I learned so much from BIM Mays ability to build an Airfix spitfire kit in 1.23 secs . Well done that man .

    Nice Job! Sometimes the enamel matt varnishes can separate in the pots and they need a proper mixing (like for half an hour) to get it all working again, I have experienced this exact problem on a number of my kits. I tend to use acrylic varnishes now but they come with their own problems where if they are too cold, or again not mixed well enough, they can leave a white residue . . .

    Hey James, you should try doing a life size version of that spitfire, perhaps you can conscript some school kids and air cadets to help you.... maybe even model the pilot after yourself? just a thought

    I think this channel should be renamed to JM's employment tube, as mr. May is not unemployed. Car show presenter, our man in Japan, wine enthusiast and cooking guru... that's a lot of work.
    And yes, we would love to see more videos. Hell, you could read to us the entire history of aviation and we'd still watch it.

    My first plastic model airplane actually was an Airfix 1/72th scale Spitfire and that was in 1968. I wish I still had it, actually. And since it looked exactly like this one, I didn’t really miss the time lapse photography.

    She looks glorious! I think that satin finish is perfect! Most matt paints tend to develop a gloss with age.

    If you have issues with the varnish, just add more and more layers of it. It'll eventually matte out. Though do be sure to mask the canopy to keep it clear. Some cheap wood glue, perhaps thinned with water, should do a fine job and be easy to remove.
    By the way, next time you travel to Japan (haven't had the opportunity to watch your latest Amazon production yet) try picking up some kits by Tamiya or Hasegawa. They have some exquisite kits you might enjoy as well.

    Remember the AIRFIX magazine? Glueing the canopy on before you paint the pilot is another thing that comes to mind.

    I just purchased this exact kit to build for this exact reason, imagine my surprise seeing a video of a man I deeply respect tutoring me on how to do it! Well the good news is, that respect is a bit less deep now. I still haven't built the sodding plane either.
