    That’s pretty crazy you and Zane had almost identical starters ready to be redone at the same time. Very good video of the tear down and rebuild on this one, you got it fixed up nice after it was all said and done. Watching you guys taught me quite a bit, I’d never seen anything like those before! Thank you for the shoutout too Jason, really appreciate that!

      I hadn't planned on doing a video on my starter as I knew mine was working. It was just a good opportunity to point out what I thought was wrong with Zanes. How soon do we get to see you driving your truck????

      Sparks Fire and Baling Wire hoping to get a video up by this weekend. So much going on down here, got my dad staying here for a bit after he just had a a major surgery, the refinery has gone crazy and may go into lockdown mode where you have to stay there 24/7 to keep anyone from getting the virus - kind of hope I do get that duty and I kinda hope I don’t, that be a sweet paycheck for the next few months 🤣- and right now I’m working a weird schedule as they only kept us proprietary people running a skeleton crew...but hoping a 3 day weekend is coming up so plan on beers and editing to post Saturday.

    Thanks man for a good, informational video. Don't forget to shut off your battery charger when working in the shop. You've got a great shop and always good videos. Keep up the great stuff and stay safe. Chuck in NE Kansas

      Thanks for the view Chuck. The switch is broken on my battery charger so I have to unplug it everytime. Kind of a good thing I don't forget it that way.

    I’m a sucker for simplicity and it’s really cool to see just how easy those old starters are to work on. It was neat to see how the starter gear is supposed to engage when hooked up to the battery. It’s also amazing how the manual engagement works and makes the connection when it’s all hooked up. So simple yet a brilliant idea. Awesome video!
    P.S. Thanks for the shoutout!👍

      Yes it is Cody. They really thought that was quite a luxury to have starter so they didnt have to crank the engine by hand.

    Nice detailed video on the manually operated starter. I have a similar setup on Farmall c of my dadsz, the manual switch is not connecting the hot wire to the activation bolt of the starter. I fixed the wd45 many years ago with same issue. Just don't recall how I did it

    What is REALLY good to do with these switches, and battery connections, use Dielectric grease. A lot of people get misconceived about what the grease actually does. They think it stops the flow of electricity, when in fact, it helps with it, keeps the contacts from corroding and arcing that causes the pits and markings. excellent for battery terminals also and keeps from the acidity build up. Excellent choice with the electrical cleaner

    On a lot of AC Delco starters you can only install the armature from the drive end. This is unfortunate because it is a lot easier to get the brushes on the armature before you install the armature. You were fortunate. Also, using grease on the Bendix spiral instead of oil would be asking for trouble in subfreezing weather. Great Video!

    Not to tell tales in front of the class but the first thing you cleaned at minute 5:09 is the commutator. The large winding is the armature.

    Are the brushes difficult to replace on this starter?

    I have a Allis Chalmers 6080 with starting problem there is power on the gauges when I turn the key on but no power goes to the starter
    Any suggestions?

    • @sparksfireandbalingwire8467
      @sparksfireandbalingwire8467  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could be the key switch itself or the starter solenoid. I'm not too familiar with the 6000 series of tractors.

    Is it perfectly OK to run that starter on either 6 or 12 volts?

    • @sparksfireandbalingwire8467
      @sparksfireandbalingwire8467  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you just can't run it for extended periods of time, which is true whether using 6 or 12 volts

  • @bobzybob1
    @bobzybob1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Shit my starter only has 2 stator coils. now would that be for a 6Volt system or was that a half ass fix?

    • @bobzybob1
      @bobzybob1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      How many ohms should each coil have...300?
