Hello friend, I drive a Daihatsu Gran Move 1.6 and used to drive the Cuore Casual 1998 with 44 horsepower. That one was amazing. Every time I went highway speed with that thing it would feel like being launched into orbit. I swear to god, that engine made sounds comparable to an unhappy lawnmower. It had no airbags, so me and my girlfriend have opted for the Gran Move 1.6. Ours has 2 aliexpress stickers of Queen Elizabeth on it, some '''decorations '' (to fix the dents and cratches the geriatric old owner had made) so it's quite a sight to behold. The duct tape flattering in the wind as the mosy on along. It's an awesome car and it's served us for 3 years already, got it at 77.000 and now over 100.000!
Thank you for the video, I loved your enthusiasm and humour :)
    Kind regards,
    Wilhelm

Won't lie, 90s Daihatsu vehicles are a class on their own. I had almost the same vehicle (L500 Mira from the same year, actually; so technically the same car without that added height), such an underrated gem to be honest. The small dimensions, quirky interior design reminiscent to Japanese-European fusion of dashboard styles of that time; Daihatsu really needs to be featured more in video games such as Forza Horizon series and other open-world Simulation racing games.

We had these heremin NZ. Originally with the 660cc and aircon. When they went to the 847cc they dumped the aircon!. I test drove a new 660cc auto with 3 people on board. It took 5km of road to reach 100kph. Lol.
I also had a look at a Japanese accessories brochure. There were no less than 1600 options for things you could do to your Move.
I still prefer the Daihatsu to the equivalent Suzuki Wagon R.
In the mid 2000s you could get a Japanese second import known as the Chevrolet MW. It had a column change auto, leather upholstery and climate aircon. It was a Suzuki Wagon R Plus in reality.

847 wasn't EFI, but with carburettor; explaining why they dumped the aircon. I had the same 847 L5 Mira/Cuore a few years ago and while its aircon was originally shot when I bought it, got it back up but soon gave up on me cause carb engines can't really handle them well. Its kinda weird though why they didn't bother to install EFI 660cc for export models too, but reserve it to limited markets.

I love kei cars, they all just look so odd to our eyes on British roads. Gotta love a Japanese manual, had me howling with the battery acid one 🤣

Although quite old at this point, but have fun! It was a blast riding it with a 5-speed MT even if it weren't that fast; managed it to take to 90 km/h on a highway once, and boy the car rattled like crazy. Unless you're claustrophobic though, its a really fun car; who needs Corollas as their first vehicles anyway when Kei cars from older times exist? 😉
P.S it had the same engine as the Move in review - Daihatsu sold older engines for this generation for export models.
