This brings back memories for me. The first body shop I worked in had a similarity built "home made" booth. It had the BEST airflow of any booth I worked in

Massive Booth !! Must be a pleasure to spray in. And very well designed for a self build booth.
My USI is a full downdraft pitted booth, costs me a fortune in exhaust and floor filters...in the process of making a cage to pre filter the pocket exhaust filters with standard floor filters to try cut costs !! But keeping the fan clean is always priority.

Nice quality workplace Gavin, I see you also have a type of filter prior to the extraction fan. Can you tell me for what purpose and how often does it need replacing please. Thanks and have an excellent new year.

Hi phil the filter before the extractor fan is just to try and take out all the overspray so it doesn't build up on my extractor fan blades. we change it every week or so. It is glass fibre extraction type filter. Happy new year to you to!

Hi Gavin. Really enjoying your channel. I am an amateur painter doing work in my own garage at home. I have some questions if you don't mind. How on earth do you manage heating your booth with a propane heater? As far as I am aware, for every litre of gas they burn they produce a litre of water. I had to stop using mine as any cold metal in the garage would be dripping with condensation until the garage got up to temperature. I got a humidity meter and it was at 90% when I used the propane heater. I have now chosen to heat the garage using electric heaters, but with the current state of energy suppliers it is very expensive now. I just wondered whether you have monitored the humidity in the booth.

The most helpful video I have seen in a while. I built my own small booth for painting motorbike panels and have been struggling with getting clean work, what are the best intake filters to use as I have been using fibreglass ones what is your opinion Gavin?

    • @Gavinpinkpaintshop

To be honest the fiberglass is normally an extraction exhaust filter or as a pre-filter have a look on eBay for spray booth intake filter👍

I'm loving how clean the booth is !!!! so many people start bogging cars in there booths really annoys me . When did some custom work for a guy i made him build me a booth and i would n't let anybody in and also if they did come in have you put deoderant or aftershave on this morning (silicones ) lol. It was my domain and i produced some nice clean work .

I can only imagine how many times you’ve been asked about that booth.. I’ve studied it no end of times when I was building mine 😂 it really is an awesome set up. One thing that may be handy for you is an indirect marquee heater.. they vent all the fumes and moisture up a flue and just clean dry warm air in - great for warming the space and baking (arcotherm). Your generous to share your secrets 🙏 Those led lights are a game changer .. great videos 👍

Is there a factor for booths that the intake should be 200% of the extractor size? I seem to think I once read that somewhere (or I’m going nuts lol) but yours is so well set up and was probably a fraction of the cost of a bought “proper” booth. My home made booth is a similar size and you’ve given me some really good ideas with this video so thanks for this one (and the others of course)

Really interesting video Gavin, your booth is very well designed and ideal for what you do as you are not a production shop pushing as many jobs through each day as you can, it must cost you a fair bit to redecorate the inside as much as you do but it must help to get cleaner jobs, do you think it's cheaper to build your own booth compared to buying one in and having it fitted?
I'm just a hobby painter doing single panels so my booth is a fraction the size of yours but works on the same principal, mine is also negative pressure with two variable speed fans sucking air across the booth from the intake filters and it's heated using a hot air diesel unit, it was 24C in my booth yesterday and 4C outside so it works well for what I do, I've always been told that you shouldn't have a negative pressure in the booth but never had any issues with it.
