    Jerry - I watched the whole video and did not see HOW you blanched the avocado. Did you cut it first? Blanched it before cutting? Can you refer me to a time where you did it since I can't seem to find it? I want to learn how to do the blanching. THANKS!

    • @BelleLorrae
      @BelleLorrae 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@cs160 I would think that would cook the inside flesh too much, which can make it taste off. The purpose behind blanching before it's cut is to cook it just enough to kill what's under the layer of skin. Then you put it in ice water to halt the cooking process so it doesn't affect the flesh. Blanching a cut avocado would be directly cooking the flesh.

    Thank you for this! I’ve tried looking up ways to store it and EVERYONE only swears by the lemon/lime/oil method, but I don’t have those things on me. I only need to keep the other half for a day, so the water method seems best for me! Definitely won’t keep it in there any longer than needed with it, by the look of your face in the video 😂
    Great video as well. Nice bits of education and great faces 😂👍

    I just dice up mine when simi ripe into cubes and spread them out on a baking sheet lined parchment paper and flash freeze for 3 hours to overnight and bag the up. Yes they are slightly brown looking, but are not mushy and still keep there original flavor. The cubes are all lose and I'm able to get out just what I need without them being all froze together.

    I just wanna know if the blanched one had a hint of bitterness?
    I was planning on making an avocado cake but I'm about worried that it'll taste bitter because I've read somewhere that a cooked avocado can become bitter.

    • @jerryjamesstone
      @jerryjamesstone  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The avocado is not cooked, that’s the important part, it’s just 10 seconds to kill that outer layer

      Thanks for responding.😊
      I already pushed through with the avocado cake, but it wasn't successful. It really turned out bitter.😓 I don't know if it's because the avocado I used was almost overripe or just because it was cooked.😅
      But still thanks for your advice, I kept the remaining ones in the fridge to prolong the ripe stage and avoid rotting just like what you said.

    I'm becoming a fan.!! Good to know my method (with the pit) works good. Never considered blanching....that's strange, especially whole with the skin. How/why does THAT work. VERY strange.!

  • @petehedenstrom8158
    @petehedenstrom8158 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thx-! I was very surprised by the blanch-as another commenter said “who’d a thought it” I always thought oxidation was the main culprit? Can you tell us why the blanching is effective? What is happening..why does this work?

    • @jerryjamesstone
      @jerryjamesstone  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I go into it a bit in the video, there are things living between the peel and fruit, that when exposed, cause the browning. Blanching kills those things.
