this answered the one question I had involving the fuse cable. Good video. thanks for making this easy for beginners.
Glad it helped
I Know You Mean 800 WATTS But You Crack Me Up Everytime You Say 800 AMPS ! Now If That Alternator Put Out 800 AMPS ! HOLY SHIT !!!
Yeah, I had my editor put 800w at the bottom every time I said amps.
I cought it in editing, but was too late by then
@@GearsAndTech LOCAL POWERPLANT MY TRUCK CAN HANDLE ALL THE AMPS REEEEEE.
Thanks for the vid. It should be mentioned that this Alternator Charger only works with the Delta series of Ecoflow batteries. The River series do not have the expansion port to accept input from the Alternator Charger.
Great point
You can charge the battery expansions right from the alternator charger, so charge the Ecoflow generator, then charge the expansion battery
That's right
Especially if you are poor and only got the delta 2 with only one XT150 Port.
Never run ecoflow to 0 if you can help it. I've been using them for 5 years and learned the hardway
Great point
You don’t need to be at 14 Volts. Easy set up in the app where you can adjust it. Some cars with smart alternators routinely drop the alternator charging below 14V at idle, so I use 13V setting on mine. You could easily set it to 13 or 12 volts charge an Ecoflow Delta directly from an RV battery bank. Good video, but would have been much better with accurate info.
Great points. Thanks for sharing
"at 14amps"?? I think you meant to say at 14V (?)
Thanks!
Double up on the idea, and get a high output alternator. Mechman or JS are two options but there are more. Yours is only 200 amps, but you could double it to 400 amps with one of those and get constant max power generation, with enough left over to still put more toys on the truck. Problem with Fords is that unlike Chevys, the alternator isn't right on top, at the front, so if you don't have decent mechanic skills you *might have to have a shop install it. On a Chevy you could do it with a ratchet and a wrench in 15 minutes.
Agreed, Chevy is usually my preferred vehicle. You probbaly picked up on that with my low key jabs at Ford breaking down
your truck needs cam phasers/timing chains, you might want to get it looked at before it leaves you stranded
Too late, engine blew up a week after filming this video.
I had replaced he timing chain and tensioner. Turned out the oil pump was weak
@@GearsAndTechouch, was it a 5.4?
Great video , Thank you. Looking forward to hooking this up. Keep on keepin on
Thanks, will do!
Thanks for the video!
You bet!
Interesting that none of the units in TH-cam videos appear to have these massive barrels right next to the connection points like the one I just received. 🤔 Whatever this new cable is, is very annoying. Possibly return worthy honestly.
Is that an integrated fuse?
Thanks for your work in this video, i’m wondering if i upgrade my alternator will it charge faster?😊
If you get the 800w of output then there is no need
I didn't do a current draw check on the alternator, but I have a feeling that box is boosting the 12v to 72v. If so, the current from the alternator is gonna be really low anyway. So an alt upgrade won't do anything
@@GearsAndTech good point
I'm not so sure if the upstep from 12V input to 72V output has any influence on the load on the alternator... If you get 800W input on the EcoFlow Delta, you have to draw 800W (plus a bit of lost power for the upstep) from the alternator, otherwise you'd have invented the perpetuum mobile :)
800W from the alternator (divided by 14V) is a current of 57A ... The cable from the DC/DC to the EcoFlow Delta, assuming 72V, is 6 times lower, ie under 10A, which allows for a thinner wire...
Any idea on the wear and tear on battery or alternator!?! Is this safe for long run to use it often (camping) or be in natural disaster scenario ?
No extra wear and tear. Alternator is designed for the load.
Does it protect your starter battery from decharging too much?
I don’t want to drain the starter battery 🪫 to the point that I can’t start the car anymore!!
yes, it has under voltage protection. Normally it only runs when the vehicle is actually running, but you can turn that down lower if you want to charge while vehicle is off
Can you do this with other solar generator brands? 😊
Unfortunately this fast charger only works with ecoflow.
But you can connect solar panels up across multiple brands
is this product used to recharge your ecoflow generator off your vehicle battery?
Yes
It's actually meant to charge from the alternator, not the battery. That being said you can charge from the battery (engine off). I see little cases when you'd want to though.
your truck needs to be running for two hours to fully charge?
Charging up to 80% is fast. After that it slows down a lot to manage heat
why is it called an alternator charger if its connected to the battery?
It is charging off the alternator. The bug battery cable goes straight to the alternator. Electrically it's the same is attaching it to the alternator. It's just a lot easier to put it on the battery
Fishing wire is hardest part on any vehicle.
Yeah, there is a reason I didn't do it for the test
Can you get both the Alternator charger and solar to work in tandem?
Yeh you can, that gives the full 800w of charging power
@@SilverwidowsWait? So if I put in 500w of solar, and then run the alternator I still end up with 800W?
Or is it 500 + 800 = 1300W?
@@kobodera8261 it's an 800w unit, so that's the max
yes. just plug them both in
@@kobodera8261Я подключал альтернатор к лада гранта 700 ватт + подключил солнечные панели 400 ватт и 160 ватт. В итоге все вместе работало, давало 1,1 квт
Anyone have a problem with stay connected to the app?
I haven't really used the app much, so can't say for sure
@@GearsAndTech I found out if i drive away from my Wi-Fi it always disconnects.
@@RangeroverlandingAdventuresYou could make a mobile hot spot on your phone and connect to that, if you wanted.
Anyone use this on second generation prius
Should work
I threw away the instructions 😂
I came to TH-cam and see if someone knows why it doesn't charge with green light.
I got a better deal through Hobotech discount code.
849.00 with Delta 2, alternator charger, and 100w foldable solar panel.😊
Use the app. You can adjust the settings for charging
But that button on the side was probbaly your problem?
@@GearsAndTech
Yes it was the button.
Thanks
Where's the actual install? You just hooked two wires to the battery...
I did a little more than that.
Each install will be unique to your situation. The parts shown here will be the same for everyone
@@GearsAndTech It doesn’t matter. This is NOT an installation. It’s a promo for EcoFlow. No more than that.
@@1stRangerjust plug in positive and negative to the battery. Running the wires is dependent on vehicle and what you want to do. Ecoflow has a nice video on the actual install
@@Therealphantomzero Again, pluging two wires is NOT an installation. Actual installation is much more complicated.
EcoFlow video doesn't show any actual installation either.
They all make it look so easy, while in fact it's the opposite of that. Connecting it is easy, installing is anything but.
@@1stRanger wow, you are really desperate to be disagreeable aren't you? You "install" by running the wires into the vehicle and mounting the unit inside the vehicle. How you do that depends on your vehicle and where you want to put the unit. Then you plug in the unit, run the wires from the unit to the power station and you have completed the install. The "complicated" part of the install is actually hooking it to your battery.
A charger to recharger your other charger how Unique. Just get a honda gas generator and be doe with tall the BS
Depends what your goals are. This actually works great and is a lot better than a Honda generator in a lot of ways.
It's not a replacement. Just like the electric cars. They won't replace gas cars, but each have their place
You're right, genius - I'm gonna run a loud (to draw attention from security & the cops, graciously allowing stay and annoying everyone else), poisonous gas generator inside my car all night and all day as I drive around.
What an out of the box thinker you are, dpshtt.
That's some REAL community college level logic, champ
Stupid. 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
You can’t run a gas gen everywhere…. Then you have to store your gas… you can’t use a gas gen inside the RV especially while driving… you can’t recharge your gas gen with solar while chilling at a campsite… they have different pros & cons
exercise your brain opie
Why would anyone want to waste over 1k on a bulky, noisy and smelly generator, that is only good for one single purpose and has limited continuous run time, when they can get a very compact multipurpose device for 1/4 of the cost?
To summarize. BS is getting Honda generator instead of this device. Taken one owns compatible EcoFlow power station ofc.
It's probably the most expensive DC to DC charger available 🤔🫤 I also hate how they talk Watts no Amps lol even you got Amps ,& Watts Confused
The problem with talking amps is its function of the voltage.
Since this is pumping the voltage up higher, the amps drops but the watts increase
So a
12v 15A charger is NOT the same as a 60v 15A charger
The amps are the same, but because they pumped the voltage up they are getting way more watts into it
And since the device we are charging is rated in watts it makes sense to talk about charge capability with watts too.
But yes, even I got tripped up when I was doing teh review because we don't normally talk about watts. Since we fuse stuff based on amps
@@GearsAndTech Yes is tricky when a company digressed from Amps. So can you do an Amps test on the input with a clamp meter? plus those ecoflows are built with many cells Vs a LiFe
It only takes one cell to go bad and your stuffed if you push unit hard with toasters etc. .
Here in Australia that unit started @ $799AU
My 30a renogy DC with a solar converter was about $250
