Um, actually you CAN use soap on your cast iron. It's just that you don't have to. When you properly cure your cast iron cookware, the oil turns into a polymer that is not washed away by soap. The real culprit of removing the seasoning during cleaning is harsh scrubbing.

Um actually you are only half correct there pal. The reason people say you can't use soap on cast iron cookware is because that used to be and still is true for LYE soaps ONLY however the grease fighting soap that most of the world uses now is perfectly fine to use and can even be considered good for it.

6:44 Um, Actually Bela Lugosi's cape in dracula wasn't red. First of, it was shot in black and white so you couldn't discern the color. Secondly the cape that was used was black on the outside and almost a cream color on the inside.

Um, actually, in star trek, it's not that france has become english, but that english became the overwhelmingly predominant language on Earth after the chaos, warfare, and rebuilding that took place in the early 21st century. Throughout the rest of the Franchise we see multiple examples that all humans seem to be able to communicate in English without the benefit of a universal translator. People from the different regions of Earth are still shown to speak with an accent specific to their area (all the french people do french accents and Dr. Bashir's parents in DS9 have accents), with the notable exception of Jean Luc Picard. Out of cannon, his character was originally going to have a french accent, but it sounded so ridiculous that the idea was scrapped early in production. Patrick Stewart has, at a couple of cons, done the into monologue ("...these are the voyages...") with a heavy french accent and it is freaking hilarious.

Um actually, English wasn’t the sole remaining language on Earth during the original series since Uhura learned English as a second language. Her native language is Swahili and when Nomad wipes most of her memories, she reverts back to her native language and had to be retaught English by Christine Chapel. And I forget the name of the episode, but there was one point where an alien warning spoke to the entire crew in their native languages (Uhura heard Swahili, Chekov heard Russian, Spock heard Vulcan). So while English may have been the most predominantly spoken one like in many parts of the world today, it wasn’t the only surviving Earth language until TNG needed a reason why a Frenchman spoken with an English accent. No one thought that maybe he could have just been half French and half English and just favored one accent from one parent as a child. Or Roddenberry could have just renamed the character Captain John Luke Manchester when Patrick Stewart was cast (wouldn’t be the first time Roddenberry renamed a character). No, wiping out all other languages from existence was clearly the best and simplest option. Or maybe France was just that unlucky and was the only language that died.
Um, actually, Pat doesn't say France became English, just that French became an obscere langague and English is the main language. Zac made a joke about France becoming English, but a joke only.

Um actually cast iron skillet are not known for their even heating but for their ability to maintain high heat they really heat up unevenly really
Um actually, while cast iron skillets don't heat perfectly even they are much more even than other materials and thus are valued for their even(er) heating. Also, lots of other metals can maintain a high heat.

Um, actually you can wash cast iron with soap. Lodge's website says: "Soap isn’t always necessary, but if you like, a little mild detergent is fine. Promise. Stay away from dishwashers and metal scouring pads, which can harm the seasoning."
Yep, America's Test Kitchen tested it, and they found it was okay to use dish soap with a sponge.
I always have. I even use scouring pads on old rusted ones you find at yard sales but then I retreat them and put them in the oven for 2-3 hours.
You beat me to this. Soap isn't a no-no, it's simply not recommended as it removes the seasoning often attributed to cast iron's preferential status in a kitchen (aside from heat dissipation). Glad to see somebody posted it here on day 1.

Um Actually Bela Lugosi only played Dracula in two movies (and a non-Dracula vampire in only one or two other movies) and in none of those did he have especially sharp teeth, whether incisors or canines.

Presumably the reason why French became an obscure language in Star Trek was rooted in First Contact with Aliens. The first Vulcans to come to Earth did so because of the first warp signature from a Human, who was American. The Vulcans made first contact with Humans who spoke English, and English became the "Universal Language" that Aliens who wanted to Contact Earth use. This is also backed up by many of Starfleets Facilities being Located around America.
I’m so happy that new episodes of Um, Actually have been coming more frequently. The premise is brilliant, and this deserves to be a full length tv games how, and make you all the money.

Um actually, after a hot rinse and scrub with a plastic bristle brush, I use salt as an abrasive and a non-scratch pad to remove any debris that hasn't come off, then rub it with vegetable oil. I never thought of using pepper as an abrasive, but I suppose it would work. Yeah, but I wonder if she also uses oregano.

Interesting! Seems pretty pointless to use pepper as an abrasive though. And I know it's controversial, but if we're going to Um, Actually the shit out of this, there are quite a few sources, including the great Kenji from Serious Eats (blessed be his name) which state that using soap is not going to destroy your seasoning. Also, as an added bit of anecdotal evidence, having worked briefly as a dishwasher in a fine-dining restaurant, we did indeed wash the cast iron pans in soapy water just like everything else.
