Watching the weather channel; thinking about you and the Tayana! We are in Baltimore at TrawlerFest where Eric and I have been complaining about the overcast but that is nothing compared to this crazy CAT 4. Stay safe, hope all Florida survives well - boats and people!
You’re getting there with a little help from your friends ! I’m looking forward to you getting into the yard and straightening the boat out. Until then just keep embracing the suck ! These will be great memories once you’ve forgotten how much it sucked !
Hi ladies, thank you for the wonderful video. Keep up the good work. How is Garrison going? Wonderful little bird, really appreciate your both keeping us entertained and laughing at your antics Cliff from Australia
@@bishopkinlyside8477 hey Cliff!!! Garrison is doing good, though he is still biting his new feathers off so he stays in trouble a lot. lol he seems to be in good spirits though!
Tie another knot and hang in there Siren. You'll get it home and then the refit can begin. Darrin is a godsend for sure. Just check on your dinghy for chafing as you go along. Perhaps a bumper on the point of the canoe stern would be beneficial. Just a thought.
It is so hard to keep anything there because it slips and rolls up or down. Once I got it strapped in there tighter with more lift, it didn’t seem to move.
Great job! Looks like you made it into the Sarasota area. Too bad about the rigging, that's a long way to motor. Plenty of sailors and marinas up there if you need assistance. You passed me right by.. ;-) Maybe you can find a "Quick Fix" for the rigging up there.. Luv the persistence, you'll be home in no time. btw Great friend you have there.
The tugboats I work on ,we do 6 on 6 off, 24/7 . Most of the crews do a big sleep of 5-51/2 in their of watch before noon . Then like a heavy nap 3+ on the next off watch. I have gone for months on this cycle. If you get an all hands deal and must be on deck , in 2 watches you can catch up on rest. 3 &3 in nuts. Sorry. Fatigue can hurt you. Keep the adventure going!
Yes, we both have worked on boats for years and always do 6/6, but we thought 3/3 would be best for this situation. I actually prefer the 3/3 for small boat stuff like that.
Am sure that you have . . . and will have a fine life. All the best to you - Agent J, to Garrison the eagle (in pigeon disguise), to your Hal, and to all who sail aboard your dream. A dream shared aboard S/V Mistral. Back to life's 16 - Kevin in SD
You said your going to have the rig repaired so you can sail ? When ?? you motor a lot and the boats made for sailing! Also have someone straight out the fuel tanks if your going to motor all,the time ! Start taking care of your problems and you will have less problems! Just one at time and before you know it they will be done , just don’t do the repairs like Hal did ! Do them right !!
Yes, I can’t start a refit somewhere random and expensive when I have loads of resources and tools in Panama City. That would be stupid. I’m still in the process of getting the boat 1000 miles home so I can start that refit.
@@TheSirensLog gotta tell ya though, there ain't nothin' in my experience like a good old Polk County Mosquito...it just blows my mind after almost 4 years living here that I'm swattin' 'em in January...just can't get USED to that...
This trip to the yard wasn’t going to happen without some difficulties. Way to stay resourceful with limited resources. Yah you could get this and that but logically mot possible at times.
Garrison has been through three rounds of antibiotics, and he is rid of which ever ailment he had. However, the neurological damage that he suffered due to that ailment, or potential poison, that he ingested from the city, who tries to keep the pigeon numbers in check, Does persist and could take some time to recover from. We do regular therapy where I help him and help balance him and keep his legs and wings strong. Hopefully this will aid in riding that overtime. I had a cat that was hit by a car, who had a similar situation with permanent brain damage, and over the course of a year, he improved drastically, and I am hoping that Garrison will be a similar case.in regards to the feathers, the first round of antibiotics weaken, his system, and much of the feathers, actually became brittle and broke off. This was a really unfortunate case, and I immediately got him the best supplement on the market, and he has been on that ever since. Unfortunately, most of those feathers will only grow back during a molting period, which can happen only once or twice a year, and that is now what we are waiting for. There are a few of those feathers that do continually grow back, but he insists on biting them off, so we have been swaddling him at times, and he should obviously be swaddled a lot more, or I need to find a new remedy. I’ve tried everything, but I am considering taking him to a good vet, who might be able to offer a better solution, because I have ran out of options. feather biting is a common thing in birds, and sometimes very little things can impact the bird enough to cause that. For example, if a bird is not getting enough sunlight, like if the cage is positioned in the wrong area of a room, this can cause, a bird to bite his feathers. I have a good friend who has a very healthy and happy little bird, and he has had a problem with feather, biting since he found that bird. I hope that I can break Garrison of the habit, and I know that one day he will be happier and less frustrated when his feathers are actually back, and he can fly, and especially if we can get him walking again. if he won’t walk again, he can still live a good life, and he can still get up and fly, as he was before. That would mean that he would always be in captivity, though. Luckily, pigeons were domesticated and are not native to the area, which leaves them in a gray area. They do bond with humans, and throughout this trip, North, I have set him up in the birth with me at night, and he has scooted over to cuddle around my neck on several nights. He is my little man, and I love him very much, and I am providing the best life for him that I can. I don’t think it’s the life of freedom like many other birds, but I think that he is still living. There are many other animal species that are in captivity, in rehab centers, and things like that because they were rescued and had problems. Garrison is really no different, I will always do whatever I think is best for him, but he has not given up on life, and until he does, I believe it would be very selfish to euthanize him. We just aren’t at that point yet. To euthanize him now, would only be because he is a burden to me, and he is not. It seems really unfair to do that, when he still lives a good little life, even in his situation.
