in 1986, when Yamaha upgraded the 1200 venture to a 1300. They upgraded the oiling for second and fifth gears, they made the saddlebags top loaders, they increased the engine displacement, re-modified the water pump, and they gave the Venture the diaphragm type clutch that was developed for the 148 hp Vmax. that was then.. I was unaware that the clutch was different on the newer Yamaha royal star venture‘s compared to the Yamaha venture royale that ran from 1986 through 1992.. i’ve never had to work on any of the clutches on any of the Venture’s I have owned.. never even had to pull the side cover off any of my ventures.. what parts are different on the Vmax? And what year Vmax clutch are you talking about? The newer ones? it makes sense that the the clutch hub and the clutch bearing and the clutch basket and the clutch discs in the clutch plates would be interchangeable. I imagine that the clutch springs may be a little stiffer on the Vmax…. The slave cylinder might even be different because you’re fighting stronger springs when you pull the clutch in.. thanks for the tip, I will definitely look into that, because that makes sense to use the beefier clutch, as long as I don’t have to pull harder on a stiffer lever.
If you ever have to change the clutch on a Venture replace it with a VMax clutch which is much heavier than the original !
