Wow that light behind the wheel in the back ground, the cutting tables 😊your photos of this place really tell the story , i can only imagine what it was like when it was functional. Breathtaking imagery
I just watched this with my husband, who likes photography. We both agree that these are the most stunning images we have seen in ages. He can’t comment as it was on the tele, but I had to look up the location. So atmospheric! Thank you for that video. It was awesome!
Thank you so much for your kind words.. they are very encouraging. The location is absolutely stunning and well worth the visit if ever you get the chance. I was very lucky with the weather coming in as it did on the upper levels. Thank you.😊
When the slide-show started, to be honest, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. However, once it became clear that this was a day shooting an amazing place using only black-and-white AND you'd be talking us through your thought process it quickly became clear what a great shoot this was. You've uniquely captured the moodiness and the history and the culture of the scene. One the best TH-cam videos by photographers that I've seen in a long while. Great work.
Thank you so much for your comment. It really means so much. It’s abit daunting to try something alittle different when putting a film together. This place is an absolute dream to shoot and well worth a visit if ever you get the chance. Thank you 👍👍
Brilliant stuff the images are absolutely fantastic. I’m an engineer by Trade and I appreciate everything you are showing these photos 👍🏻. I’m loving your channel keep up the good work 👍🏻
Hi Steven thank you so much for your encouragement, it really does mean a lot. I’m so glad you like the images in this film. I really had some amazing conditions and there is so much to see at this location. Am looking forward to going back later in the year 👍👍
Thank you so much for your comment I’m glad you like the video. No pressure on the next one haha hoping to get down to editing it over the next few days 😊
Verywell put together videos of location, atmosphere, explanation, projection, target, and methodology to achieve what I consider to be true art of living history, excellent portrayal of skills!
Thank you so much for your comments on this film it’s so encouraging . It was a lot of fun to put together, glad you liked the images too! There are some brilliant documentaries on this quarry and I’d urge you to check out Jason jones channel. He’s a welsh photographer and does a huge amount in this quarry. His documentary is very good with film from when it’s was a working quarry! 👍👍
Excellent video and images from a place I truly love and never tire of. The drone footage of the Grand Staircase showing its true size and scale great work Simon 👌.
So filmic and gorgeously crafted. It would be nice to see each image onscreen for a few seconds in its entirety without pushing in, out, or panning, just to better appreciate the overall composition.
Thank you so much for your comment. Yes looking back I think I agree with you regarding the presentation of the images and it’s something I shall probably implement in future films. I’m glad you liked this film as it was so much fun to shoot. Thanks 👍👍
Hi Simon. Thanks again for another great video. The. high contrast black and white shots, show the quarry and it's workings off brilliantly. Da iawn. Welsh for very good.😊
As someone who lives local to this quarry, it was really refreshing to see some images taken from new perspectives Simon, plus I love the B+W work, it really complements the location. Wonderfully put together video, really enjoyed it.
Love it! Masterfully done. The images are great and so is the video work. I learned a lot from you approach. I will be looking to see more of your vids. Thanks for braving the slippery slope.
Hi Tracy thank you for your comment and I’m so glad you liked the video and images. That slippery slope is alittle daunting but well worth the climb to see buildings on the higher levels. 😊
It's wonderful up there, great shots!,it's a fair old slog to the top in one session ,consider parking at Deiniolen if you go again ,it makes life a lot easier ,I really enjoyed this ,thanks
Thanks for the tip, I’m definitely going back there again it was amazing. I parked in the bus terminal halfway up to the left of the site. I will check out your suggestions for my next visit. Glad you like the film 😊😊
What's up my friend? This is the first time I checked out your channel, and I like your approach to B&W. This is really nice stuff. Very well done. Peace!
Hello, Simon. Very nice black and white work, my friend. For me, this is the way to photograph. And the place where you are is ideal for that. Beautiful video with beautiful photos. That building on the top with the fog is my favorite, my friend, an amazing "snap". Antoine (the Netherlands)
Thank you so much I really appreciate it the comments. So glad you like the film. I’m planing a few more black and white projects in the next few weeks which I’m looking forward to sharing. Really liking black and white images at the moment.👍👍
You certainly capture a mood, I'm sure different people will get different emotions from the images, sad to see these places abandoned, lifeless, in what must have been true industry in its hey day!
This is beautifully put together, Simon. A nice balance of great images and interesting chat to camera, without being over-produced. This is just how I like photography videos, great work with a bit of integrity 😁
Another great location and images I am just starting on the B&W journey , I love your video style and some cleaver cinematography , I have Subed and looking forward to watching more . Pete Western Australia
Hi Pete thank you so much for your kind words. I’m glad you like the images and films. Look forward to seeing some of your images over on instagram or VERO if you have them! 👍👍
@SimonJerromes Hi, I have a TH-cam channel on camping and exploring here in Western Australia , I add photos now and Then , but am thinking of of doing more photography in my content , channel name is Peter Hewitson
The work involved in making this video had to be monumental. Great video and photos. Love the background music as well. I hope your channel is hugely successful.
Hi Jack thanks for your comment. Glad you like the images. This quarry is amazing with all its old machinery and buildings being left. It looks like the workers got up one day and left and never went back.!! Would love to photograph the Everglades one day! Enjoy your weekend 👍👍
Hi Paul yes I think I remember you going right to the very top didn’t you. The last time I was thinking on going I remember you telling me the quarry was shut for filming! Couldn’t miss an opportunity to there this time though. So so lucky when I got to the top and the clouds had rolled in!! Enjoying your videos mate 👍👍👍 thanks for the comments
Haha thank you Malcolm it didn’t feel like heaven when I got to the top especially when your camera bag is roughly the weight of a teenager!!!! Haha. Glad you like the film 👍👍👍
What a Beautiful Video and what wonderful Photographs! The Music blended in perfectly! This reminded me of the time I photographed an abandoned coal mine in Illinois. Thanks for your outstanding photography!!!
Thank you William I’m glad you like the film. A coal mine in Illinois sounds amazing. I would love to visit the states one day. Thanks for your encouragement 👍👍
This is one of the most inspirational videos I've seen in quite a while. Your artistic vision for each shot really had me pulled in. Beautiful work. I saved this to watch again.
Wow Bill thank you so much, I’m so glad you enjoyed the film. The location is incredible and I was so lucky when I finally got to the top that the conditions were perfect. Thank you so much for the comment 👍👍
Wow, I confess I’m not a black and white fan, and certainly not architecture or machinery, but your images were really great, and I especially loved the ones Inside what I think was the cutting shed. I’ve only ever been to the lower parts of this quarry and now really wish I had the nerve and stamina to climb up.
Hi Deborah thank you so much for your comment. Yes I too tend to stay away from black and white but this location just screamed it haha I think I will do a lot more from now on. Glad you liked the film 😊
Some really great pictures here and definitely the right decision to shoot in b & w. I shall be visiting Snowdonia next year and have just added the quarry to my itinerary. So thanks for the inspiration.
Hi thank you for your comment. You’ll have a blast when you visit next year. There are a number of very good quarry location around this site. All of them well worth a visit. Fingers crossed for great conditions! 👍👍
Really well put together video Simon... the B&W theme really suited the location and atmosphere of the place - I am in the area next week and with rain forecast I might find myself abt there. Some cracking images.n atb Alan
My kind of photography and informative video. Cool and laid back presentation. Maybe if you shared your settings? Certainly would not do any harm man. There was also at least one video clip when I thought what a shot it would have made; you walking away from camera into your shot. And needless to say, awesome shots man. Have subscribed. Looking forward to more 👍📸
Thank you for you comment I really appreciate it. Yes I normally put my settings on in the gallery at the end as I find putting setting on in the initial reveal of an image alittle distracting( I think that’s just me!) but for some reason I did in this video and I can’t remember why!! Glad to have you on board 😊👍
Thank you for your comment glad you enjoyed the video. Yes I prefer to under expose slightly… it’s not to everyone’s taste but I like it.. glad you do too!👍👍👍👍
Hi Colin thanks for your comment. My camera is an A7iii quite an old camera by today’s standards but it’s a great work horse and I’m very happy with the images I get from it. I think that’s also down to the 24mm GM lens that I had and also the 100-400 GM that are great lenses. That the only lenses I have at the moment but hope to purchase something with a focal length in between those at some point! 👍
Nice to see black and white images, just a minor point. Is it a current trend to use Ken burn’s effect all the time? and I understand the feeling to keep a video moving but the close up details aren’t as important to me as to see the complete image, this need to do a revel style get old very quickly as all landscapes channels seam to do it now, I just feel that those with visual literacy might just enjoy the image as a whole with some time for interpretation of your images story Just a thought
Hi thanks for your comment. Yes I agree things can sometimes get over used. Which is why I’ve started doing just that in this film by presenting a few images without highlighting parts etc on a few occasions. That’s also the intention of the gallery at the end. I appreciate your comments 👍👍
Wow that light behind the wheel in the back ground, the cutting tables 😊your photos of this place really tell the story , i can only imagine what it was like when it was functional. Breathtaking imagery
Thank you Christine, it’s an amazing place, there are a few documentaries on TH-cam about it when it was open! Glad you liked the images 😊
I just watched this with my husband, who likes photography. We both agree that these are the most stunning images we have seen in ages. He can’t comment as it was on the tele, but I had to look up the location. So atmospheric! Thank you for that video. It was awesome!

Thank you Paul glad you enjoyed it. I’m glad I stuck to mono at this location, especially with the fog!👍
B&W total suit this Simon. Lovely images. Got to say, that cine-reel type effect at the beginning of the video was inspired. Really dew me in. 👍
Glad you liked it Garry👍👍
excellent video Simon. Very atmospheric, love that film effect at the start and definitely a great decision to shoot in B&W!
