Great presentation. Jim's videos are always the best when it comes to saxophones and accessories.

I wished the Lakshimi was out last year when I bought my Gaia 4 for tenor. It seems like a great mouthpiece, and it would have been fun to compare them. Thanks for putting this review up!

I feel like the hard rubber piece accentuates the lower end of the frequency spectrum better than the metal piece does. This is just from an ear test but I’d be curious what it’d look like comparing these in a frequency analyzer.

Sounds great!! Theo knows what he's doing big time I love his mouthpieces 🙌🏽💪🏾🔥. I like them both and the metal is edgy and the hard rubber is more mellow to me also but overall they are both great just depends on your preferences.

Thank you for this. Does anyone have an idea of how the hard rubber special edition compares to a Rafael Navarro bob mintzer bebop special? I’m guessing not since the special edition will be so incredibly rare. Just curious….

I recall Theo saying that the Gaia 3 was the greatest achievement for him. How is this sonically, compared to a great playing Gaia 3?

I'm currently looking at the Lakshmi, Gaia, and Brahma right now in the hopes of improving on some of the qualities I dislike about my 90s model Brilhart Level Air (which I like overall, but is a bit too bright and difficult to do softer songs, not very warm in the low end). My guess is that it is closer to something like a Durga or Shiva in brightness, but it's only a guess based on videos of other people playing. I do very mixed performances (e.g. jumping from things like Queen "Can't Stop Me Now" to Duke Ellington "In a Sentimental Mood"), so I'm trying to find a good "center of versatility" that can still handle both ends outdoors. In your experience, is the Lakshmi bright enough to do belty songs outdoors like that?
From the samples I hear I really like the warm low end it has, so I'm not too worried there. I've seen other reviews say the Gaia 4 is pretty versatile as well, but just a touch brighter. I'm torn on what to try first since I don't live near any stores that carry these and have to deal with orders/shipping/restocking for any changes. Any experience with Theo Wanne pieces is appreciated and would be helpful. Cheers!

Hi There I’ve just purchased a HR Lakshmi from your good selves. Could I possibly ask what reed you’re using on the HR please Jim ?

I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of the limited edition mindset. Not only does it not make sense for people who would have to save up for a long time to afford one of these mouthpieces, it also kind of excludes people such as myself who prefer bigger tip openings when they only make it between 6 and 7*. I would agree that certain examples like Jody Jazz's DV anniversary edition plated in platinum make more sense with this mindset, but that's only because it's just a cosmetic difference. Hard rubber vs metal is enough of a difference in response to me that locking HR behind a limited edition title makes no sense to me, especially when Theo Wanne so readily makes HR versions of multiple other mouthpieces for standard production. I'm curious to hear other takes on this though. Would there be anything else to stop Theo Wanne from putting the HR version into standard production that doesn't apply to his other models?

very laborious to move the ligature that is its weakness but it is very expensive

After several seconds into playing with the metal version, there were too many signs that the mouthpiece will break that tenor. Then it did.
But the rubber version is superior to the metal version in all aspects. I'm surprised that a superior mouthpiece has limited production run.

Hmmm. Didn't sound very pleasant to me. Loud, cutting, and looked tough to play. Nothing like a vintage otto link.
