    Hey Guys‼️ Heads up! Vitamin E is not a preservative in any way shape or form. I definitely recommend a preservative for ANYthing that will implement or come in to contact with water!
    👀Someone brought this to my attention. I did not use Vitamin E in this product at all but I did mention it. In the video, I mentioned that Vitamin E and/or refrigerating the product will help a “little” if you CAN’T or WON’T us a preservative BUT I do not want to confuse you!!!! 😂🤦🏾‍♀️
    Vitamin E will not help preserve it at all lol.
    Vitamin E is a fat soluble antioxidants. It will help slow down oxidation and prolong the shelf life of oil based products. But it is still not a preservative lol. Vitamin E will not stop “anything” with water in it from growing mold and other nasty things in your product 🙏🏽‼️🤢

    Just a little advice Germal plus is for highly water based products not butter rich products.....look up some optiphen or optiphen plus it will preserve longer and you won't have to refrigerate it at all

    • @YayaDIYCreations
      @YayaDIYCreations  6 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      wcallisa22 I felt like it was majority water or more water based lol. I used about 1 1/2 cup of water to extract the Marshmallow root. It yielded about 1 cup and I think I used about 1/2 a cup for the mixture. But I have heard of those as well. I plan to experiment with many more ingredients in future videos. Thanks for the advice and for watching 😂😂

      Thank you for subscribing! And yes, Shea and Mango butter are very popular right now lol. I love trying out new butters though so I try to be versatile. It is an immersion blender. It has two attachment heads. I am still doing research myself. I have experience with liquid germall plus and Optiphen plus. Optiphen is temperature sensitive and can destabilize your products, but it is the more "natural" option. Liquid germall plus can release some questionable chemicals but it is effective, easy to use, works well with just a small amount, and covers a broad spectrum of germs, mold, etc. I hope this helps.

      Hey there Yaya!! I absolutely love your DIY videos. I tweak some of the recipes to add my own twist but your ideas and combinations are amazing. Question, even with a preservative like Optiphen Plus, what would you recommend to be the maximum self life for distilled water products? I see a lot of retail store all natural brands say 12 months but for homemade I would think it would be less.

      Btms can be difficult to melt down especially when you let the container of the Btms sit in the water. Create a double boiler by placing the container on the pot so that only the steam coming up from the boiling pot of water melts the Btms in the container above. Hope this helps 😊

    • @YayaDIYCreations

      Absolutely! Especially Murumuru butter. These butters are lightweight and absorb quickly in the skin, so they don't leave a greasy residue. Shea butter is also non pore clogging but it does seem to weigh-down hair for some reason. I have been enjoying Mango butter, Tamanu butter, and Murumuru butter as great substitutes for Shea Butter.

    I just found your channel and I am so happy I did. Can you help us to understand preservatives more? I want to use them because I can't refrigerated these. I am not scared of them, I just want to learn how to make DIYs last and be safe. Mold is scarier than perservatives for me. Can you make a video about this or give us a reference to look at? There are so many, it becomes a little overwhelming hahah.
    Also I hope you recover soon. I am happy your surgery went well. Please be safe. Thank you for your honesty and wonderful content.
    You are genuinely a great person. You dont feel forced or like you are selling us stuff. You may promote a site, but it feels different. It feels like a friend telling you about a thing they trust and just want the best for you. You are just giving a suggestion, and it feels very caring. Your content feels extremely caring and you are just teaching us so much great stuff. I wish nothing but great things for you. Again, Thank you for your content. :')

    • @YayaDIYCreations
      @YayaDIYCreations  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Wow. Thank you so much for your heartfelt comment. You have not idea how this makes me feel because I genuinely want to help and learn just as much as you all do. I am still figuring out preservatives myself. A lot of my failed DIYs have been from a preservative destabilized the mixture because it was either added while the mixture was too cold or too hot; or even added with an ingredient that it was not compatible with. It is nerve reaching. 😩
      What I will do, is get a few different preservative ranging from broad spectrum, "natural", etc and test them out on the same product for about a week a two and monitor them to see what happens. I will release a series of these videos and I will also allow you all to suggest a few preservatives you would like for me to test in the community tab. I will do my best to organize this test and release the results for you all so that you can make the best decisions on which preservative to use. Trust me, I wish I had more guidance when trying to figure out which preservative use when I first started as well. I hope it will be helpful.
      I also believe mold is scarier than preservatives. Even when I refrigerate some of my mixtures with preservatives, they still end of going bad after a week or two. I would like to be free from worries about nasties and also be able to extend the shelf life. I also, however, want to provide a variety of content that appeals to those who want natural options and no preservatives so it is a balancing act. 🙏🏽
      Please do not hesitate to ask me if you have anymore questions. Thank you for the well wishes for the surgery. Recovery is going well and I can not wait to release more videos for you all.
      Best

      Modelingmareine1 Hi! I have used it once in a Hair Butter I made last Christmas. I really like it and plan to purchase more. In that hair butter, i used coconut oil, Cupuacu butter, and Sal butter together, so I can’t say for sure how it works on its own. Together, they were moisturizing, lightweight compared to Shea butter, softening, and left my hair shiny and smooth. My sister was so obsessed with it that she took it from me lol. You may have to buy a small amount and test it on one area of your hair to see how it works for you. I usually do spot test if I am unsure about how my hair or skin will react to an ingredient. Hope this helps 😊

    Does Marshmallow Root actually gel or do you need slippery elm or flaxseed to make it a gel by itself. Because my marshmallow root gel keeps coming out Liquidy.

    • @Doc_McStuffins
      @Doc_McStuffins 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It gels. Try doing a gentle boil for 20 min or so with occasional stirring until you can see from the "scum" on the side of the pot that is reduced and condensed. It should be quite thick but still liqudy, as it thickens as it cools. If that still doesn't work try reducing your water content.

      I believe the powder will work just fine even though I have not tried it personally myself. I think it is grounded for easier use, such as mixing into products, while the root is used for teas, etc. However, either should work just fine. 🙂

    Hi Ya ya, is th is a non chemical preservative? I love your videos and thank you for showing how to use it in your hair.

    • @YayaDIYCreations
      @YayaDIYCreations  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much! I don't think so but I am not 100% sure. This is what I do know tho. Liquid germall plus is a plant derived preservative that is broad spectrum and paraben-free. However, it is a formaldehyde releaser so it is best to use it in very low doses. Most recommend .1 to .5 percent of the formula. A preservative that does not release formaldehyde is Optiphen plus. It is a paraben-free preservative as well, but you have to use a higher dosage to get the same protection. Optiphen can also destabilize your emulsion so it can be tricky to work with. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have anymore questions. I am still learning and experimenting myself, but I hope this answered your question. 😊

      UNDERRATED BEAUTY Hi! I have not done the research to answer that questions, but honestly I would not risk it. If you don’t have a preservative, just be sure to refrigerate it. If I find out any further information about lemon juice, I will let you now. I hope this help. 😊
      Also, lemons are known to lighten the skin and hair over time so be careful if you do decide to use it long term. At one point. I used lemon and honey in a lot of my diy hair creations and it definitely lightened my hair over a course of 1 to 2 years.

I want to answer your question correctly so let me know what you are referring too. As far as preserving, I used liquid germall plus but there are safer, more "natural" preservatives out there. I would not use aloe as a preservative but it is okay to use aloe as an ingredient. I hope this helps. 😊
