A look back at the beginning of paramedics, how the TV show EMERGENCY! had an influence on the paramedic program world wide and the Los Angeles County Fire Department then and now.
I loved this show when I was younger and it inspired me to later become a paramedic. I watch the reruns of this show with my son almost every night. We love it. They just don't make shows like that any more.
My mother-in-law is a cardiac nurse at a large and busy hospital in California and she said that Emergency! had a large part of her decision to go into that field. I am sure she is not alone, I bet many other people became paramedics, nurses, and doctors just because this show had an impact on them.
Back in 2021 I was fortunate to be in Los Angles County with my step daughter and her then to be fiance. My wife and I had the chance to find that the Los Angeles County Fire Museum in Bellweather. We went over and having been former EMS (EMT) I can happily say going to the museum was something to take of my EMS bucket list. The three original pieces (Crown Engine, Ward LaFrance Engine and the Squad) were in the museum as well as a large part of the parafanalia (defibulators, uniforms and other materials) In 2021 the actor Tim Donelly better known as Chet Kelly (aka "The Phantom") passed away in the earlier part of the year. When we were the museum, the Ward LaFrance had a photo tribute to Tim's character and where he sat on the engines (right side jump seat behind Capt. Stanley). The trip to the museum was wonderful.
I’ve been a huge Emergency fan since age three (watching reruns was all I wanted to watch until I was in junior high and became interested in women, lol.). Thanks to the show I ended up being a critical care paramedic and director of an EMS system with a B.S. in EMS and a M.S. in Emergency Services Management. I love going to work! And when I’m not working, I volunteer as a paramedic in a very rural area in the U.S. where my family has a cottage. Thanks for the great video!
Likewise was a child watching reruns in the 70s..most definitely influenced my current employment. Historical show. .911 was started in 1970 ..Believe this was the 1st documentation of emergency workers.
I too love the show Emergency! and last year I got the whole season of Emergency! I would like to become a Perimetric but I don't know if I can. Love from Marysville, California KMG 365
"Start an IV, D5W with ringers lactate and transport." To this day I quote this whenever I'm in a hospital. The staff usually says two things: "How do you know that?" and "We don't really use ringers anymore." Loved watching this show as a kid.
@@robertdawson291 in Missouri as a Vol Firefighter I never.heard it. Here in NC the county 911 central communications use UT all the time when dispatching a call. I would say it is a base station assigned call sign..
TY 1ST RESPONDERS!!! I have been to that Station 127...we poured cement slab out back by the hose rack...Also Flew in Helicopter 10 With that pilot(Nam Vet could give us guys THE "E" TICKET FLIGHT TOO!!!) I worked for Camp 2 LACo Fire, Oak Grove Park Crew 2...1969-70(+) Crew 2 gave Chief Engineers of NY, HAWAII, ADJOINING CITIES, A DEMO Of how fast we could be off the ground...Helicopter 10 came over making a water drop...then came around landed(10 Men w/Full packs and tools loaded 28 seconds flat...off the ground!!!) IT WAS GOOD!!! PS...I was camp mascot..."Sparky" 🙃😉👈
I can say thank you to all the pyramids if the LA county fire department you guys were there but my mother had a massive stroke of 2005 to pass time because we've been there to help me out when I needed help for medical attention I appreciate it always will give my support to you guys and I will be with the new county fire museum soon as is c-19 ends
They depicted realistic fire/EMS operations way better than the crap on TV today. I like Chicago Fire, and Third Watch many years ago, but Emergency was the real deal. They never sacrificed authenticity, never went over the top, writing ridiculous situations that will never, or could never happen under most circumstances.
have you thought about doing a #rescue911 then and now video of the Dispatch centers where Shatner did all of the segment openings/closings including the Oxnard Police/Fire Communications center along wit Cent-Net Dispatch center and the Huntington police and fire dispatch centers?
what's amazing is that this chest pain call is now done without base hospital contact..only a few scenarios require contact with the hospital...standing orders.
During the five year run of TV's Emergency!, there was nonesuch thing as a Coke (Coca-Cola) vending machine inside Los Angeles County Fire Station 51. 🥤

I love Emergency! It one of my favourite firefighters shows I ever watched.
I still watch it to this day. Actually watching it right now on Cozi TV

Thanks for making the video and keeping the memory of the site and history alive! With you kept the full size of my video. Haha
As an older flight paramedic, this show will sit very fondly in my memory growing up.
Thanks for this video

I remember the doctor almost always saying start an IV if he doesn't ask a question about anything first
Ringers is still used, to my knowledge.
What does the KMG365 mean?

Hat's off to Paramedic's
Fond memories of my youth. Thank you for a wonderful video.
To all the First Responders out there thank you 🙏 for your service!
Randy Mantooth was offered a job by the LACOFD chief at the time the show ended. Said you would make a heel of a firefighter

What's the film that you showed in the beginning
STATION 51 10-4 KMG 365
COPY....
My favorite show from my childhood
Mine too.
All units, Evansville... Stand by for an emergency plectron
The tone for squad 51 was the real tone for station 50
Pretty good video. However, there are a few inaccuracies.
KMG sign out? Mind blown!
The first Paramedic unit was formed in 1966 in Pittsburgh PA, by a group called the Friendship House.
Ha ha that scene with the tone, you can see Kevin Tighe has sandles on.
Without emergency. We would not have the TV show Chicago Fire. And 911 and the actual 911 system
Why isn't this footage with the new documentary, or is it?
Where can I get the County film
nice vid
Remember movie during presentation in Paso Robles. Been to 127
what's with the fireman lifting the roll up door so they can respond????LOL
its on MeTv
Some interior scenes were filmed at station 127. If you can see the street, or the highway behind it, it's the real station.
HEY LAPD COPS! Do you have any ADAM-12 45th Anniversary posters for sale? - THX
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤❤
WYY-978 ... Clear
a Quint is a ladder truck
If you can see the street, it's the station
