- This week Lisa Newman took us through 1 Samuel 1 as we examined the life of a woman who sought the Lord by pouring out her heart and soul to Him for her desires. In the midst of great anguish, Hannah knew God was with her, even though she couldn't perceive an answer to her prayers. She trusted in God with her life and her desires, no matter the outcome.

Hannah & Samuel have been coming to my mind recently multiple times. So I searched TH-cam now as I wanted listen to it. I was wondering how Hannah’s story would relate to mine (I’m single so nothing about having kids). But, thought may be it’s related to prayer in general. Turns out your sermon was exactly for me... my situation. Thank you, Jesus.

I found your video today...wow...I am hannah...but...have now been approved to adopt...so still waiting..waiting.waitng...when everyone is busy busy busy...I really wanted this to be sorted by Christmas but no..so I need to learn...even after 2 failed ivf....the depression..broken heart....understood by no one..to be patient..so your video really helped☺☺
My friend's sister ( who isn't a Christian) had IVF treatment a number of times and was hurting so much because she couldn't conceive with her husband after years and years of trying, I told my friend Alex ' tell your sister to pray and ask God for all the women she knows or doesn't know in her city to have children who were unable to , so she did and that very month she found out she was with child and she and her husband now have 3 children, may God bless you with children of your own womb , should you desire and bless you for considering adoption ( I was in childcare myself) ❤ may God's grace be poured out on you

Ms. Newman, thanks for your well-prepared presentation. May I ask your opinion? At Duet 6:7 parents are commanded to train their own children to love God. So why do you think God blessed Hannah's plan to have Eli (who was not such a great father) raise Samuel? (I have an idea about this, but I'd like to know yours.)

Ms. Newman, thanks for kindly replying. I like trying to understand apparent contradictions like this one. I think Hannah had a lot in common with Sarah (and Leah). When Sarah appealed to Abraham regarding Hagar’s persecuting her, Abraham protected her. And when Sarah appealed to him regarding Ishmael’s persecuting Isaac, Abraham protected Isaac. But when Jacob didn't protect Joseph from his jealous (and murderous) brothers, and actually inflamed their jealousy with his favoritism, God saved Joseph by relocating him to Egypt. So, I suppose that when Hannah perceived that Elkanah hadn't protected her from Peninnah’s persecution (but was instead inflaming Peninnah's jealousy by showing favoritism to Hannah (1 Sa 1:5)), and seemed unlikely to protect young Samuel from Peninnah’s jealous (and likely to become murderous) sons, to save Samuel’s life Hannah appealed to God to relocate Samuel to Shiloh. I think God recognized that doing so would not only protect Samuel, it would also provide a replacement for Eli’s wicked sons. So, I think that when God prioritized saving Samuel’s life over the requirement for parental training of Deut 6:7, the result was not an ideal situation, but it was as good as it could have been considering the imperfect people involved. From this story I think we can also see aspects of God's love for his own precious son, Jesus. How does that sound?
