  • Had my z1000 mapped a couple of years back and since then ive made a few changes. Twin exit system has been replaced with a single and in Turn a shortened Akrapovic from my RSV4. Drilled the airbox (just a few holes each side of the initial intake) for a bit more growl. Not got the dyno graph back yet but, there is no real difference in final output - still at around 144 (but im sure a saw a 146 while i was shooting this!! :)) so, drilling the airbox does nothing for power, but since the changes the air/fuel mixture was right out. Redline has been increased to 11,400rpm as it was still making power at the top end. Funnily when it backfired it was pushing the door to the dyno room :) ...dont think the video showed it though

Hey @Comfy Sofa, How would you compare the Akra setup to the arrow setup power wise? I have a 2015 Ninja 1k that I have done a few changes to make it handle better and now I am looking into power. I was looking at the Arrow single vs the Akra single. The Arrow has longer primaries and was wondering if you had noticed anything significant between the two. Thanks!

Hmmm....i can only give my personal experience....ive never had anything on my bike other than the arrow headers, but, ive seen a few z1000's go on to the CJS dyno so, assuming that the dyno is the constant 3 different bikes (z1000's) have been done with 3 different header's - mine, a lad that i met at a bike meet locally and another one (owner that i dont know) mine having the arrow's the local friend had a full Lextech system (ive never heard of them before but he's really pleased with it - full stainless also, single exit) and the 3rd was an Akra system. This might surprise you but they all made about the same power, me and my friend compared ours and while the peak torque and max bhp was about the same (give or take 1 or 2 bhp) we all made around 143, the only difference being in the power curve, that was slightly different. Mine made about the same with the twin exit brawlers (my first setup). Mines a bit of a mix...Akra tail pipe and arrow headers!

Youre welcome. Just to say that this video was shot with the revised single exit system. Power output was the same as the twin exit system (id say slightly more on the single exit) while this video was being shot i saw touch 146 but, Chris said the graph was 143 - must have been me....the only thing that was different on the initial run and was the fuel/air mix was totally out once id switched to a single exit system (generally more popping and banging on the overrun).

Awesome info, I really appreciate the work you put into your Z1k, all really great mods and well thought out. Due to the supply and pricing the Akra looks to be the better bet for me in the US. I like how their system has a bracket near the end of the header to bolt to the OEM hanger where the arrow does not. But I prefer the Arrow slip on options more. Will probably do all the power mods at once. Header/Ivan Flash/DNA Filter/ Air box mod. That should compliment my current mods very well.

It's quick off the mark due to the short ratio box but looses the hard acceleration at about 140...gets round to 160 though which is not bad!... Well good enough for me..!

Not got the graph back yet but I'm sure I saw 146 on that final run but I may be mistaken....its a remap as I've switched to a single system and drilled the airbox for a bit of a deeper noise. Before I got to the dyno he did say initially it was making power at the top end by the time it hit the limiter (10.900rpm) so that was increased to 11.400rpm. Seat of my pants dyno says it feels a lot better. Crispier, a bit deeper, and throttle response snappier in all the gears. Very pleased.

Notice the shockwave from the backfire pushing the door! Dunno why but that impressed me! :)

Sounds great 👍146 at the wheel is well over 160 at the crank over 10 percent on stock ..I gotta get myself down to this guy 👍
Was thinking of a slipper clutch on mine as a next mod .. have you considered one?
