If you pay close attention and know a decent amount of early-2000's trivia, you might notice that the ice ballerina you have to defend from hockey thugs is named after Nancy Kerrigan, the figure skater who famously got attacked by goons after a practice session because Tonya Harding wanted the olympic figure skating medal for herself. Pretty nifty, ain't it? By the way, Nancy ended up scoring 2nd place while Tonya only managed to get 8th and then got banned from the sport as a result of the goon attack.

Spyro 2 and Spyro 3 definitely run a tight race, however Year of the Dragon's worlds just seem more immersive. The story even hints and builds on this early on with Hunter being attracted to her and later saving her in Midday Gardens. The game is ALMOST perfect, besides the points you pretty much covered in the video. I also have the original version and I've never had a chance to play the Greatest Hits version. Funnily enough, your old Spyro reviews are how I found your channel in the first place. Its really great to see how much you've grown as a content creator :)
I was never a big fan of the Spyro series but after seeing your reviews of Ripto's rage and Year of the dragon I'm definitely giving the Reignited Trilogy a shot!
Spyro: Year of the Dragon is the best game in the trilogy, it does everything the second game did just loads better, plus the game is a lot longer and has a more memorable soundtrack ;) Mind you it's the first Spyro game I played so I'll always say it's the best no matter what :P
I think objectively, 2 is better because it's more focused while still having a lot of variety while 3 has a little too much going on but I like 3 more because our copy of 2 got scratched super quick and wouldn't load any levels past Colossus so I played 3 a lot more and I love it to death
I liked 3 more than 2 because they fixed some of the problems I have with it. Like when u have to kill enemies to get an power up. Or having to do alot of backtracking in which; while optional, is just an little overboard with the level designs & requirement moves or whatever. And the missions in 3 are pretty fairly challenging and not as much difficult spikes or annoyance as 2 ( with the exception of 2 or 3 ones like Bently Boxing & Shellias mission in the haunted Swamp level ).
The first game is the most focused and stays as my favorite. I don't like any mini games or other playable characters in later games and those are the biggest part of the trilogy so 3 is easily the worst for me. Quality over quantity.
Watching you cover this trilogy really brought back great memories of my dad and I playing these games when I was kid. This trilogy was what got us into video games, and we still find games to enjoy together. Great coverage with good, clean humor. Love it! Since we're still a ways away from the remasters...could you cover the last Spyro trilogy--The Legend of Spyro? Yes, it'll be painful, but it's no worse than Enter the Dragonfly.
The reason Insomniac left Spyro was because of Universal Studios pushing them off the edge. Plus Spyro brought them enough fame to work on other titles.
The boxing match with Bentley is very easy. Just use your side jab attack and as soon as the attack lands, strafe around the yeti and jab him again. You can keep hitting him without him hitting a single punch.
he only breifly mentioned about the legends in the heroes tail review but it is a possibilty that he might do it since we still got 2 more months until the reignited trilogy comes out so I think he might do it but I'm pretty sure it won't be a positive review the way he talked about it
The only Spyro game I played as a kid involved skateboarding and I could never remember which one it was, even though I remembered certain scenes (similar to a couple of the Crash games) but unlike the Crash games, I have now found out it was the 3rd game. Thanks for helping me find a piece of my childhood, Antdude. (Actually, you helped me remember one of the 3 Crash games I played as a kid and it was Crash Tag Team Racing. I remembered Crash Bash from my memories, but still can't name the last one.)
I mean they are Spyro games, and he did say when he did a review on the 4th game that he'd review ALL the Spyro games. Seems he forgot a trio of 'em- ...Although it's clear he doesn't like the three. For some reason that is an extremely love it or hate it trilogy. Personally, I love the games- but that's because I'm always a sucker for a good story.
There's definitely things to like, and things to hate. I kinda liked it, but with the first two games I thought that there were too many waves of enemies at every turn (I honestly would have had more fun if they cut the number in half), and I detested quite literally everything about Sparx. The low amount of animations, the model, the facial expression, the voice acting(At least the first game), and the writing. The third game I played and found it quite possibly the most "I love this"/"I hate this" game I've ever played, with how they took control of the camera from you. I loved the game when you had full control of the camera. I detested the game when you didn't.
I don't know man, I didn't mind the large waves of enemies... Mostly because there was almost always a cliff or a pit of lava that I could knock enemies into. That was during my "Sadistic 'knock everything off a cliff'" phase though.
My biggest issue with the Legend of Spyro games was just how much they railroad you. One of my favourite parts of the original trilogy was being able to fully explore each of the worlds - climbing and gliding around to see what little nooks and crannies I could gain access to. With the legend series, you're on a path and surrounded by plants and other obstacles that force you to stay on it. There's little to no replayability, because it'd be the exact same experience every time. It's a good story, but eh.
Spyro 3 was the one I played a lot when I was a kid. It was one of the 4 games I actually played and it feels like it's tied to me. Year of the Dragon came out the year I was born, and with the delay the Reignited Trilogy comes out 3 days before my birthday.
Strat for the show board level. You can walk around just as spyro, walk through a boost star over and over and over again and then when you start the race you'll basically have endless boost (depending on how much time you spent going through stars)
Fun fact: A glitch with the dynamic difficulty system makes the blue-footed booby race in Harbor Speedway and the snowboard race in Super Bonus Round literally impossible on the highest difficulty. You either have to use a cheat code to set the difficulty manually or keep failing and hope the game decides you suck enough to drop the difficulty itself.
You honestly couldn't put it any better than with that genius title: the trilogy just kind of... _ends_ with this game, what with a rather underwhelming secret ending (belch-only dialogue, anyone?), a somber track for Midnight Mountain, and who could ever forget that gut-wrenching "Thank you for playing. We'll miss you." in the Atlas' epilogue? That's what makes the second one that much better in my opinion, variety notwithstanding.
Honestly, in regards to the Sparx levels, I always just thought the projectiles were something that the fairies gave him temporarily for the purposes of the level.
This was my favorite of the trilogy. I liked new characters and the extra challenges better than the second game. Also the first game while more nostalgic than the others isn't as polished as this one in my opinion.
One little cheat on that yeti snowboarding section of the bonus level that my brother and I figured out was that you could go ahead before the race and just stand in a star power up for about 5-10 minutes and then you start the race with all that star power and you never have to do tricks to boost your speed and you're always boosted. But if you don't stand there long enough, you do eventually run out of star power and have to speed up with tricks and power ups.
Enter the what ? Ah, "the game we'd rather it never existed so we pretend it never existed even if it's a shame but yes, we all sadly know it has existed"... Yes, Antdude did a video on this ^^
--What about Skylanders?-- In all seriousness,i think it's nice that Spyro is a Skylander character. (His series 3 version was my first max level Skylander)
My main issue was the voice acting with the enemies and some of their sound effects seeming weaker as well as certain designs not feeling or looking nearly as threatening or close to their originals
in the remake, i found the bosses to be decending in difficulty as i went on. Buzz was the worst, blaster was not so bad, scorch was piss easy. havent gotten to the sorceress yet.
he probably wont do all the games unless it is highly requested but the only reason he does all the kirby games is well, he loves kirby and it is his favorite series if you couldn't tell by the length of the kirby videos.
@@billy3212 Yeah I know, but he really like Spyro I think that after the Reignited Triology he will be very excited about Spyro and will make videos about all Spyros
What some people might hate about this game, but I absolutely love, is the anti-piracy measures implemented in it, to make sure the sales of it don't get hurt as badly as the 2nd game due to piracy. And it was implemented beautifully.
You grew up with Spryo as the main charater. I grew up with Spyro as one of many figures that I put on a portal to have him come to life and ruin an Invader Zim knockoff's plans.
9:50 You don't need a friend, you just plug in the controller in the second port, and beat the crap out of the Colossus Yeti without him even moving. That's how I got the skill point in that stage.
The demo for Crash Bash isn't just a demo. You can access the debug menu and straight up unlock the full game. It's the only way to play Crash Bash on ps3.
I think it's worth mentioning (if you're interested in doing it, I'm sure there is a tutorial out there), but the demo version in spyro 3 for crash bash actually has a cheat code system which has every feature of crash bash just before release and even settings to configure how each minigame works. Quite interesting.
Glad I’m not the only one who prefers Ripto’s Rage to Year of the Dragon. Fun fact: When the Reignited Trilogy releases in November, it’ll mark the first time ever that Japanese players will be able to try out YotD, as the original PS1 version only came out in Europe and the Americas. No joke.
I think that Spyro 3 is the best (I loved it in my childhood and, with Crash Bandicoot 3 : Warped, it's tied to my love of plateformers, even if I played Gateway To Glimmer and Cortex Strikes Back afterwards. They were good, but not the same to me). I just don't understand why Hunter (a cheetah) could fall in love with Bianca (a rabbit). Now, all you have to do in this Spyro hype is to deal with The Legend Of Spyro in your videos. It sucks, we know, but for us who have stopped Spyro with the awful "Enter The Dragonfly" we want to know why it sucks. Please ;)
I loved crash bandicoot 3 myself as a kid but when the release of the nsane trilogy came out, I realized just how much I loved the first 2 games rather than my all time favorite. 3 had the same cycle of levels in each hub area. Not to say that 1 and 2 werent the same but 1 did the best where everything felt so organic as far as platforming and the mechanics went. Hopefully the reignited trilogy doesnt do the same to me in a different way because 3 was the most amazing one.
Corey Stokely Yes, but It's unfair. A lot of people criticized Sonic 2006 for the romance between Elise and Sonic, but not in Spyro... Well... Probably because The Spyro Trilogy are without question, better games than Sonic 06. Or because Sonic fans are quite difficult to satisfy (and so never satisfied : except for Sonic Mania, lately). Maybe both. :)
Hey, you're not finished with this franchise just yet! Why not review each Spyro handheld game? ...Well ok, I know _why_ you don't want to, but I'm sure a lot of us would still like to see it.
13:10 One region difference for playstation games: Here in the UK, we didn't get a "greatest hits" version of the game that had a green spine. Instead, we got "platinum release". The spine would be silver instead of black, and would have the word "platinum" on the box art somewhere. On some of the platinum releases, and especially on the ps2 platinums, the original box art would be present, albeit, scaled down, with a silver frame encompassing the small cover art. For some games that had amazing box art, it was a shame to see it share half the box cover with a silver border. But it is definitely preferrable to the green spine, which is sure to clash with many titles' colour schemes.
People really overrate those cutscenes from Ripto's Rage. I mean, they were fine, but didn't really add anything significant to the game for me. And Ripto definitely cannot claim he's the most threatening villain in Spyro. He definitely has a better boss fight, but throughout the game he's just a bumbling idiot. The Sorceress is masterfully built over time as a despicable villain and a legitimate threat. It's too bad this guy has an irritating hard-on for Ripto's Rage for some reason. Other than that, I kind of like him.
SlowBurne i agree. the second time i played spyro 2 in my adult life, it was really lacking compared to the third game, in my opinion. ripto was a boring villain, and yeah, an idiot.
I played the third one first as a kid and was absolutely blown away by it. Ripto's Rage was actually the last one in the trilogy that I played and it remains my least favorite. It lacks the sense of progression you get in the other two games since it only has three home worlds. I also wasn't a huge fan of quite a few of the orb challenges. I still think Ripto's alright, and his boss battle is actually really cool, but yeah he's far from the level of The Sorceress.
I think what people like about Ripto is he is a more proactive villain compared to Gnorc and Sorceress. You see him actively taking over Avalar and you have to chase after him. Gnorc and the Sorceress just wait for Spyro to make his way to them and never leave their bases. A shame we never really get a cutscene where Spyro confronts Gnorc or the Sorceress before the battle.
Hmm, I can see that. Ripto is easily better than Gnasty Gnorc. But I felt as though the sorceress was really built up through her cutscenes throughout the game, had a legitimately disturbing end goal, and seemed like she was actively trying to stop Spyro's progress throughout the game. She was also built up with her snide little notes she left for Spyro at the character portals. Best of all, you saw how her actions of driving the Dragons away had actually affected the world as it was drained of magic. It's true you see Ripto and he actively confronts Spyro a few times, but what does he ever actually accomplish other than kick Moneybags around? Hard to get mad about that!
phantom X I had figured out an exploit where if you lap the course on foot, you can stand in one of the boost stars and you’ll get boost for however long you stood in it once you start the race again.
@@scaperist Yeah, after beating the game years after I couldn't get past the frog boss as a kid... I was a little taken aback by it. Also my god that boss was tedious.

21:37-21:52 These transitions are actually golden
Now that your spyro marathon is over, WILL YOU PLEASE FINALLY DO POKEPARK 2
YES PLEASE!!!
+Jump On Everything Aw yeah, I remember loving that game as a kid! I sadly don’t own it anymore, but I would love to see him cover it!
Did anybody noticed the 4 headed Spyro in Kirby Returns to Dreamland.
Jump On Everything yes
That would be cool
The reason Insomniac left Spyro was because of Universal Studios pushing them off the edge. Plus Spyro brought them enough fame to work on other titles.
The boxing match with Bentley is very easy. Just use your side jab attack and as soon as the attack lands, strafe around the yeti and jab him again. You can keep hitting him without him hitting a single punch.
Would you ever consider discussing the Legend of Spyro trilogy?
he only breifly mentioned about the legends in the heroes tail review but it is a possibilty that he might do it since we still got 2 more months until the reignited trilogy comes out so I think he might do it but I'm pretty sure it won't be a positive review the way he talked about it
I love that trilogy as well
he did it.
Are you going to review the Legend of Spyro games.
I mean they are Spyro games, and he did say when he did a review on the 4th game that he'd review ALL the Spyro games. Seems he forgot a trio of 'em- ...Although it's clear he doesn't like the three.
For some reason that is an extremely love it or hate it trilogy. Personally, I love the games- but that's because I'm always a sucker for a good story.
...That and the absolute final Sparx was voice acted by Wayne Brady. Just sayin'.
4:36 Spyro roasts Robbie Rotten
I wouldn't mind you redoing games you have done in the past, these are a great set of videos, its nice to have an AntDude retrospective
This game in a nutshell: Romance between predators and prey.
“I’m always an advocate for games with charm” meanwhile in the background, Kirby, Kirby, Kirby.
Antdude not mention to torture u...... But what about legend of Spyro trilogy
Edit: 47 likes thanks guys
The only good part tlos was cynder
Theo Snowball yes
That's your opinion
20:42 "WaaAaaaAAaAaAaaa..."
I think Hunter took too many drugs.
Being an adult sucks. Games like these remind me of just how today's world will never be as good as it was in the late 90s early 2000s.
Yeah ikr smh
Strat for the show board level. You can walk around just as spyro, walk through a boost star over and over and over again and then when you start the race you'll basically have endless boost (depending on how much time you spent going through stars)
I've heard this rumor before but I TOTALLY forgot all about it! Thank you for this comment! I'm gonna have to go try that out soon.
Yotd's missing homeworld is Twilight Valley
Good old Twilight Valley
Now then, where's the Legend of Spyro trilogy review?
pls no
pls yes! Such a good trilogy!
N
O
I enjoy it quite a bit idk
Not really as a spyro game, but just a game idk
I believe they're fantastic.
Honestly, in regards to the Sparx levels, I always just thought the projectiles were something that the fairies gave him temporarily for the purposes of the level.
I remember as a kid, playing Enchanted Towers, I would run away to the opposite side of the house when I lit the rockets
"Only to be followed by Sonic Adventure, in the future"
You know Sonic Adventure came out 2 years before this game, right?
He's hinting at the trend of new characters that the sonic series would churn out somewhat relentlessly with nearly every new game.
@@hikaru9624 well he should have said so in the video
maybe it could have been a little more obvious.
I was thinking that too.
Just like to point out too, that the first world in S3 is called "Sunrise Spring", Spring being the only season that didn't get a world in S2 :)
The Adventure..ends.
Nooo..well there's I guess Enter the Dragonfly🤔
He's done a review of that
We all like to pretend that trainwreck never existed.
Enter the what ? Ah, "the game we'd rather it never existed so we pretend it never existed even if it's a shame but yes, we all sadly know it has existed"... Yes, Antdude did a video on this ^^
He alerady did it.
That's why he said he'd rather not do it, *again.*
--What about Skylanders?-- In all seriousness,i think it's nice that Spyro is a Skylander character. (His series 3 version was my first max level Skylander)
Scorch freaked me out too, mostly for the cutscene that played before showing that he's an unwilling chimera.
The remaster looks great. My only gripes so far are that they didn't bring back the Spyro 1 voice actor and I don't like Shiela's character design.
Well, I agree with your second complaint. Have a like.
they definitely didn't need to give her clothes OR hair. That hair in particular is kinda unnatural.
My main issue was the voice acting with the enemies and some of their sound effects seeming weaker as well as certain designs not feeling or looking nearly as threatening or close to their originals
Great trilogy of videos dude, these three videos show that the quality of your work shines. Thanks for all the great work.
I mean, I'll play the boxing mini-game with you, man. I'm in Florida, you're in Florida, I'm sure we could work something out.
This isn't the 90's this is the 2000's
in the remake, i found the bosses to be decending in difficulty as i went on.
Buzz was the worst, blaster was not so bad, scorch was piss easy. havent gotten to the sorceress yet.
I agree Spike (2nd) is difficult as shit, but Buzz is easy af come on ^^
6:21-6:43... that hockey commentary is hilarious XD XD
Spyro is the only small dragon?
Well isn’t that just convenient
“watch out bianca. Hes an idiot“ had me cracked up for some reason xD
Please make vídeos about all Spyro games, like the way you did with Kirby
he probably wont do all the games unless it is highly requested but the only reason he does all the kirby games is well, he loves kirby and it is his favorite series if you couldn't tell by the length of the kirby videos.
And it was implemented beautifully.
pls do PokePark 2 its a good
wtf is pokepark?
@@yokris0 Now you have L I G M A
Poke what now?
You grew up with Spryo as the main charater.
I grew up with Spyro as one of many figures that I put on a portal to have him come to life and ruin an Invader Zim knockoff's plans.
actually spyro 3 came after sonic adventure.
9:50 You don't need a friend, you just plug in the controller in the second port, and beat the crap out of the Colossus Yeti without him even moving. That's how I got the skill point in that stage.
Still iffy on my experience on Spyro 3, given how I wasn't able to play it until _years_ later.
Also, why is everyone talking about Poké Park 2 now?
Shiro-Luna because he did pokepark 1 and I think he teased doing 2 and he’s yet to do it.
Shiro-Luna some people just wanna see the world burn
I loll'd hard at "Backtracking" part. Excellent work, Antman.
do pokepark 2
Billeh you are the only person I've heard acknowledge that game thank you
@@symphony-of-the-mint2008 im very glad he did pokepark 2
I liked the Sunrise Spring theme in the final boss. It gave it a real sense of finality, like this was truly it.
Legend of Spyro next!
Nah lets leave that dark era in the past where it belongs.
Dark era? It certainly is not the same type of Spyro game, but for what it was, it was actually pretty good.
Leave that edgy game to die
No u
EDIT: I like how you say that despite your name.
Spikà that's just a name means nothing lol I'd like the legend games If they weren't all boring and edgy
17:06 For a split second I thought that was the Professor saying that
Imagine Tom Kenny's Professor saying "Hey, baby girl" ...
Please, cover the Dillon trilogy
The demo for Crash Bash isn't just a demo. You can access the debug menu and straight up unlock the full game. It's the only way to play Crash Bash on ps3.
Bianca looks like Lola Bunny in the remake.
I think it's worth mentioning (if you're interested in doing it, I'm sure there is a tutorial out there), but the demo version in spyro 3 for crash bash actually has a cheat code system which has every feature of crash bash just before release and even settings to configure how each minigame works. Quite interesting.
Hi antman.. I mean dude
He's not even an ant!
No joke.
They are going to make tons of merch for us.
Hunter is a cheetah
Corey Stokely Yes, but It's unfair. A lot of people criticized Sonic 2006 for the romance between Elise and Sonic, but not in Spyro... Well... Probably because The Spyro Trilogy are without question, better games than Sonic 06. Or because Sonic fans are quite difficult to satisfy (and so never satisfied : except for Sonic Mania, lately). Maybe both. :)
Sonic Adventure came out in 1998 and Spyro Year of the Dragon came out in 2000
Hey, you're not finished with this franchise just yet! Why not review each Spyro handheld game?
...Well ok, I know _why_ you don't want to, but I'm sure a lot of us would still like to see it.
The GBA.games are alright, actually.
Kinda hard to find Ripto threatening when his nickname is Shorty.
Best thing is beating up money bags at the end
"Skating challenge is the worst"
Black water city? Is that you?
phantom X I had figured out an exploit where if you lap the course on foot, you can stand in one of the boost stars and you’ll get boost for however long you stood in it once you start the race again.
6:09 you're a dragoon now?
You're a squid now...eh no?
Are you gonna cover the GBA Spyro games? That line of games are extremely good and equally underrated
He thinks they suck.
I usually found in the super bonus round that with the skating challenge you either absolutely fail or you get ridiculously far in the lead
In the original version the worst music choice was the peaceful music for the final boss.
I'm so darn glad I have a slightly later version. Even though that one is re-using the soundtrack of Spike's Arena, but it just fits so much better.
@@scaperist Yeah, after beating the game years after I couldn't get past the frog boss as a kid... I was a little taken aback by it. Also my god that boss was tedious.
13:15 Alright AntDude, I see you have the most underrated game on the ps1 (and you are a man of class as well). Review when, I'm dying for more dragoon content, more people need to know about this game .
Review cuphead
Ah, my favorite game in the Dark Souls series.
Year of the Dragon was the first video game I’d ever played period, so I have a lot of love and nostalgia for it (we even share a birth year, who’d’ve thunk.)
Will they update tara Croft to look like the new Laura?
Good point. And what about her voice too? :)
@@giselebelle thank you so much how would anyone understand me with out your help. Befor you said that no one had any idea who I was talking about.
Why do they need variety? If you come to a game for platforming and collect-a-thon-ing, that’s what you should get.
You are totally obligated to give a review of the 2nd Spyro trilogy now. I hope you are aware of that, and I hope you are aware that the 8 of us that enjoyed the 2nd trilogy, really anticipate your review of The legend of Spyro: A New Beginning; The Legend Of Spyro: The Eternal Night; and, The Legend Of Spyro: Dawn Of The Dragon!"!!!!1!
I played A New Beginning as a kid but never the sequels, it was fun but compared to the original Spyro trilogy it's nothing... Nothing at all.
That verve shoutout at the end, FLAWLESS Switchover
Hi ant dude your so funny your videos are so good ok bye 😉
