    Thanks for the 'proper' technique. My lessons start very soon and I've been picking up where I left off on my own with Duncan from a couple of years ago. Appreciate the thumb placement with the arpeggios and of course the PDF.. I often run into a traffic jam.

    Thanks for the video. I took classical guitar a couple of years ago but had to stop because of a deformed thumbnail. Recently, I saw a video stating some of the greatest classical players didn't use nails. So, I'm back at it using your lessons. Thanks!

    Thank you! I just finished my 3rd Masters in 7 years, my youngest of 7 is a college freshman, and it’s time to relearn! I’m so glad I found this. Kept my classical guitar all these years. Hard to play when you’re pregnant or a house full of kids.
    I’m a lefty and my first college prof taught me to play left handed. Do you recommend I turn it around and see if I can do it this way? I knit and use scissors right handed, for reference.

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar
      @Thisisclassicalguitar  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I would go back to however you played before, the muscle memory will still be there so no need to relearn it all.

    Hello Bradford,
    First, thank you for your gift to us.
    Secondly, I want to give feedback about my experience: after getting my Alhambra Z Nature earlier today, I have tuned it and practised this lesson for a while. I don't have a foot support yet so I used a box. I tried to be slow mostly, like you said, letting the sound be without cutting it short. I did over do it on the first day though, in terms of practice time! I'll keep it shorter the next days.
    Thirdly, I just wanted to tell you that, even though I am following your course, I am interested in learning about using flesh instead of nails, I don't know if you have any advice? I have been reading on the difference in technique (Francisco Tárrega supposedly argues the fingers need to "hit" the cords at a 90º angle with this technique).
    Anyway, I wish you a great day and I thank you again for this gift.
    Tomorrow at the same time for the next lesson!

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar
      @Thisisclassicalguitar  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For now just use flesh and no nails. I always start beginners without nails anyway.

    • @andreperiquito5989
      @andreperiquito5989 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Thisisclassicalguitar Okay, thanks for answering! Will do.
      I will use this opportunity to ask you:
      Besides the routine on technicality, can I challenge myself by trying to learn the easiest peace from Tárrega? And maybe finish with another round of the easy "peaces" as to feel accomplished in the day like you recommend. Sorry if my English is not so good!

    Is using your pinky to rest on the guitar while you pluck p i m i okay?

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar
      @Thisisclassicalguitar  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In general, for "classical guitar" we do not rest our pinky finger. However, fingerstyle players and lute players sometime do so it depends on your goals. I teach with no resting of the pinky.

    i admit. I am really surprised a metronome is not being introduced in this video or even mentioned

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar
      @Thisisclassicalguitar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I usually don't introduce metronomes until a student can feel the rhythm naturally first and then the metronome is used to check consistency and evenness of the beat. In my experience, with some students, they try to follow the metronome rather than feel or tap the beat and it complicates the beginner phase.

    Do your students really learn a whole song n the first lesson?

    • @Thisisclassicalguitar

      sa Yes, but because it is essentially an open string right hand exercise it is easy to do from the beginning. The first lesson the student leans how to sit, hold the right hand, some rhythms, and this open string piece.
