Thank you for the added comments at the end, it’s the most broad review of the 790 I’ve listened to to date. It’s a nice bike and very much a KTM branded bike,. Yes lighter, more off roads, more whatever and certainly will appeal to the orange blooded......but I’m keeping my Africa Twin! Honestly, I’m not going to do anything more on this bike I wouldn’t already do on the AT plus my AT been hammer reliable no matter how hard it gets chucked! Great bike but not for me.
I do appreciate your well balanced conclusion. This is basically why I switched from Ktm 990adv to AfricaTwin: more confort on long travel, with still off-road capacity if needed . An Africa Twin with 30kg less would be a dream . Thanks for review 👍
Thank you for the honest review. Finally I heard a few cons. Granted I’ve already put a DP on one & it’ll be here in May, I still want to know it’s weakness because I’ve already heard all its strengths! Thanks guys!
dude don t worry ... it's always about a man on it, not a machine...most of the dudes are just posers, not real adventurers. Congrats you 've got yourself a great bike
Good review. Always nice to hear from someone that are not complete race heads but balance honestly their thoughts. Me i've still love the R and it's almost hurt not to have one yet :-)
Spoked rims rigged with tubeless tyres. Seating position for my 30in inseam was tricky on the R, but ideal on the normal/low setting on the standard bike. The tank is great, yes, it lowers the c of g, but also frees the tank bag space. The suspension is worth the money on the R, surely. What I want to know is what standard bike it truly capable of off the tarmac. Sure it's not the R, but where does it loose out in comparison. Also, I wish these promos would stop showing the greatest professional riders doing tricks on these things. We know they can do that stuff, and on far less focused bikes!
Had a look and sit on an Adventure in dealers while on hols in Italy , great looking bike, ergonomics feel fine with seat in high setting (I’m 6’ 2”) had no gear with me to test ride, doh!
first, Thank you for the review ! I want to ask if the low extrusive gas tank could be a risk and to the safety of the bike in case of drooping it in road speed or in a traffic accident ?
The purpose of the low tanks is twofold - lowered centre of gravity and safety in a drop. The sides of the tank are abrasion resistant and save the rest of the bike from hitting the dirt
t's indeed a well done video and I 100% agree on reviews of the Motorcyclist Magazione. Merzouga and its Erg Chebby help to feel in full control of the bike. Sand down there is very compact and helps the driving. If you could head east and enter in Algeria, around Taghit, sand would have been much more soft and down there this bike would tell the truth about its behaviour in sandy deserts. My opinion? It would work: high suspensions (anyway to be regulated stiffer) and free space under the bash plate would let it pass over even some (not deep) fesh fesh.
Continental TKC80. They are a nice tire for mixed riding (on /off) but don‘t last long and lack lateral traction in turns. If you are looking for serious offroad traction with still great street traction, go for the MotoZ Ttactionator Adventure. I get 2x the milage as with TKC80 and the front has a lot more lateral traction in turns (especially offroad).
Low seat height? What are you talking about? Actually, 790 Adventure R have the tallest seat in it's class - 880 mm. So as the Tenere 700. For comparison: BMW F850GS is 860 mm, Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin is 850 mm, Triumph Tiger 800 XCx/XCa is 840 mm.
KTM 790 Adventure has 850 mm seat height - not 830. So exactly like the standard Africa Twin it is. But AT has more suspensions travel and more ground clearance. And, yes, 790 Adventure R is 20 mm lower in the seat height than the AT Adventure Sports, but Honda, again, has slightly more ground clearance and suspension travel.
blottoeu the big question: how did it feel off-road? Heavy or light enough for someone new to dirt? Considering a deposit on one instead of punishing my 1190 trying to keep up with dirt bikes.
I waited 2 weeks for mine then cancelled the order. It hadnt even left the shop and it had a fuelling and software issue which meant KTM had to come and fix, then 2 days before delivery the front brake/ abs sensor went...hadn’t even left the showroom and it was falling to bits.l would wait 6 months before buying this model
Wow, a lot of fans of the t7 commenting here, for a bike that's not on the road yet it has a lot of traction. On paper it falls short in a lot of areas, only wins on price and perceived reliability, only time will tell......
its funny how you mention a driving license in a review video where i come from you can get a license in one day. its either you ride or you can't i dont understand the west and there long procedures to give out a license.
Come drive here. There are so many bad drivers, you'd think they do just give them out loosely. I've heard some DMVs do. People drive like they're over medicated mostly. And that's likely too. Some are just on their phones texting. I was behind one last week. I let her lane change into my lane. Big mistake. Shes doing 30-35 in a 45, drifting side to side. I finally get around her n shes engulfed in texting looking in her lap. SMH
thank you! exactly what i was afraid of: in the real world where you're not a test pilot and need to "eat" miles on tarmac this might not be the right bike.
I sure wish these reviews were done by normal people, in other words, people who aren't "expert riders." Just an everyday Joe who is considering going from a 310# 625 to one of these beasts, but wants to maintain the hardcore Colorado off-road ability. Can I learn to ride one? Will I regret the extra weight every day? No, forest roads aren't "off-road." A "review" shouldn't be made by a guy that'll say a 900# Harley Electra Glide is smooth then turn around the next day and say a WR250 is easy to handle.
But Simon Hargreaves is a self confessed nervous off-road motorbike rider who prefers the triumph 800 tiger because it's more on road orientated. Watch his reveiw of the triumph 800 tiger vs the Africa twin and ktm 1090r. So....why is he the best to review an offroad focussed bike? Typical softee bike journo. Spent too long in corporate entertainment hotel accommodation
I hate this thing. It's over-engineered. It's got these idiotic low tanks which lower the centre of gravity making it "playful" but less stable. It's overpowered for the displacement so will not be reliable enough to be dependable on truly "out of Europe" long distance. It's been designed by the Jony-Ive worshipers with its stupid preying mantis front end - trying too hard. It's got tons of electronics second guessing your skill. It's expensive next to 8300 for the T7. And those fuel tanks are too vulnerable. This is a product for our age of extreme instant gratification. The cocaine of motorcycles. You won't make friends on this thing. I predict a massive flop at the hands of the Tenere 700.

So similar bikes on paper, but completely different animals in real life ;
Best most honest review ive seen yet on this bike .

Superb TH-cam vid you've done!

What is the minimum octane fuel? Africa twin is 86 per the manual.

Great review!! 👍
Did they explain the gas gage? At 2:35 it shows it reading 1/2, but it appears full (solid bars). Thanks
Gas gage starts functioning at 1/2 tank. Full segments means 1/2 tank or more fuel.
@@tontonn9995 Thanks! Much appreciated. Cheers

Great review Simon. I wonder, how tall are you?
Thank you simon, great video 👍🏽
Thanks. Great review
If I was living in the desert looking after my goats, this would be the bike for me.
Nope. Yamaha AG125 would be the bike for you.
Hahaha
What was the tires on the Adventure R?
It wasn’t the ”wild” then?

Yamaha 700 if it’s made in Japan for me...no Chinese bike will ever make it into my garage

Well, ktm.com website on the 790 Adventure page says: Seat height 850 mm
Saturday i am goint to have a test ride on the ktm 790 adventure r. I hope that the weather will be fine.
It is a fantastic motorbike. I had the chance to drive the ktm 790 adventure. There is every time power. I am going to buy one later this year.
blottoeu the big question: how did it feel off-road? Heavy or light enough for someone new to dirt? Considering a deposit on one instead of punishing my 1190 trying to keep up with dirt bikes.
I've heard that they are launching 390 adv
If you're not in the mood to ride, then drive a car

Yamaha Tenere 700 is supposed to hit the market at around $7k. If it's what they say, then Yamaha will have another sales frenzy.
The T700 is 8300 sterling in the UK in the first batch. Still 3700 lower than this Playstation of a motorcycle.
@@volfactory Still a great price. Somehow, Yamaha continues to make their motorcycles accessible via reasonable pricing.
looks great!
Great vid ... and the conclusion : Yamaha Tenere 700 ruls !
I don’t know why anyone who wants to stay alive would want to ‘turn their brain off’ while riding a bike. Daft observation.
Wouldn't the low slung tank get damaged in a fall? That seems rather dangerously designed. Just from the looks.

T7 is under-powered, under-specced in suspensions.. Looks boring, very disappointed by Yam' on this one

Really these 'mid-weights' are heavy weights. The bigger ADVs are Super heavy weights. These 790s are only marginally lighter than the old 950s.

Simon Hargreaves is an average rider. Give the man a break 😂

the low gas tank i bet the bike feels so balace

rubbish its great
The entire design is to improve low center of gravity....
