Drove my 1970 142S from Guadalajara, Mexico to Texas in 12 hours. Two lane road of various conditions. Cruising speed was 85 MPH. Yes the engine sang the whole way (no over drive, just M40) and it never skipped a beat. That motor was meant to run like hell!...
Väldigt trevlig film. Mycket kunskap. Härligt jobbat. Provkörde en PV idag med en B20 motor i med dubbla SU. En härlig upplevelse. Tänkte direkt på att en OD låda skulle vara perfekt. Och nu såg jag denna film. Tack.
It would be a beautiful thing to hit those higher speeds at a lower RPM and the engine not screaming bloody murder for taking it there. Very nice job,but I don't forsee myself getting ambitous enough to do the swap.Thank you for sharing. Excellent video
Great video and great conversion. I did the same in my 1958 Duett with a B20 motor. Could you not have used one of those right angel drives for the speedometer cable instead of doing that extra cut in the tunnel and floor.
Well done. Goes nicely for a B18A. I might say to straighten up your steering wheel but you might reply to say you prefer it that way so as to see your gauges better? Indicator switch currently non locking? I think that in todays motoring the OD suits the 4.10 axle. I have an Amazon Combi with the 4.56 axle with OD and would be happy with a 4.10. OD never factory fitted by Volvo but I think they still would have used the 4.56.
Thank you for commenting! The car is actually fitted with a B20A and the OD works fine with this engine as well but with the 4.10 axle you need to be careful with the torque at lower speeds, otherwise it can disengage. The steering wheel shall be straightened up one day, I promise. When the film was shot, the 4th gear switch worked fine but shortly afterwards, it started to malfunction. I have traced the fault to the 4th gear switch. For the moment I have bypassed the 4th gear switch and instead coupled a relay via the switch for the reverse gear lamp. However, this is nothing I would recommend anyone to do. It works fine but you have to be disciplined when driving, i.e. only use the OD with the 4th gear. A total breakdown of the OD will occur if used in combination with the reverse gear.
Bra gjort. Jag har en 1960 DUETT B16A utan OD och en Amason kombi B18D med OD (4,56 bakaxel) Kanske jag ska OD-ar min Duett ocksa. Tack ska du har för din film.
Thanks for your video. I just made a M41 swap to my 142, 1968 with the 4,10 rear axel. Did you change the other speedometer-gear-part inside the gearbox as well or was it only the part with nylon from 18 to 16? teeth? I mean, the two gears have to match?
Thank you for watching and commenting my video! It is a good question but I can guarantee that you only have to replace the outer nylon speedometer gear from 18 to 16 teeth (blue to yellow). Do not worry, the 16 teeth yellow one will fit perfectly, the two gears will match and it is very easy to replace. The instrument will then show the correct reading.
You are right, that would be the best solution, however when I did the conversion I did not know that these 90 degrees transmission pieces were available. Maybe hard to find? Anyway, thank you for watching!
I have a 1962 PV and it came with overdrive done before I owned it. Very nice to have this feature, but my mechanic says the work on the tunnel was not done well. Sloppy workmanship according to him. Maybe someday I'll have this done correctly. Could I add a piece of a tunnel from a 122 instead of fabricating this?
It is certainly nice to have the overdrive! I don't know if or how well a tunnel from a 122 fits (in case you manage to find one). In my opinion, the best way is to build a customized tunnel for this purpose.
@@williamclark1633 That sounds good! It would be interesting to know the result so please share your experience. Good luck with the rebuild of the tunnel!
@@williamclark1633 No, not at all. But I am not very tall, only 170 cm. I did not even think about this when I did the modification. When I drive the car I am not bothered about the tunnel being wider. When you look into the car, you won't notice that the tunnel is modified (provided that the tunnel mat is fitted). However, the original tunnel mat did not fit very good, I had to modify it slightly. Why don't you try sitting in your car and check how much clearance to the tunnel you have? It is only a question of a couple of centimeters on each side.

Tackar! Riktigt bra gjord film.
Thanks for sharing, this is very helpful video. Good job ;) And nice ride;)
I build it in a P210. thx for the tip for the speedometer solution
Fantastic! I plan to do the same in my '61 544- I have a B20 that I'll pair with a J-Type.
Thank you and good luck!

Thank you for watching and commenting my video! Yes I could, but at the time I did the conversion I did not know they existed ...

Thank you for the video. I have a transmission waiting. I love my PV but it screaming at 70 MPH wears me out.

You should have used a 90 degree transmission piece for the speedo cable instead of making another housing. But great video. Regards Rob

@@cartube7505 I know a man in Pennsylvania that has barns full of Volvos and parts. He said he could probably cut out a portion of a tunnel for me.

One more question, does the modification of your tunnel get in the way of your feet?
