Fun fact: Tourette's will not be triggered when your mind is focusing heavily on something, like how people with severe tourette's can sing with ease due to this. That's why people with real tourette's often don't display it in short clips, as they are focusing on recording.

I don't have tourettes, but I do encounter some tics every once in a while! It's usually when I'm relaxed and just scrolling on my phone.
I do have this weird thing though- Often when I write something (especially in school) I start going like this "😗" and blowing air out of my mouth. I don't think it's a tic but it's quite strange, I developed it last year after a really hard test lmao

      @happysmiley2145 2 ปีที่แล้ว +36

I know I'm late, but I just want to write my own speculation here.
I think it's probably because they want to be like those "alters". They want to be an edgy, badass, demon with superpowers and also be some wholesome, uwu femboy, but they can't because they can only be one/have one personality ( it's by being true to themselves and not pretending to someone/something else ), maybe it's also because they can't become like someone they admire the most ( which explains why there are dream "alters" ).
That might be the reason why they fake DID, it was to become like those "alters", it was to fulfill their own fantasies and to pretend to be someone they aren't/someone they admire.
This is just my speculation, I'm not sure if this is what they truly want, and sorry for my bad english.

I never knew when it was happening to me but my poor son said it was like I became a demon. When I dissociated, I didn't act like a different "alter". They were all me, just dissociated and seemed to be seperate emotional states. Sometimes I would end up in hospital after hurting myself. For me it was just like blacking out, I didn't even know I was blacking out for years. My therapist said it was a defence mechanism. When I did become aware of it, it was like constantly waking up like I wa drunk before. It was the most terrifying experience I've ever had. I did get treatment and after a couple of years in said treatment, I no longer dissociate. I did relapse not long after treatment and it took me about a year to get back to normal again. Now I watch my stress levels because I'm scared of dissociating. I stay inside my house to avoid stress. It's not something that is like in the movies and it's not like these kids on tiktok portray. My son had to go to therapy for a while and I'm glad he did. I'm completely ashamed of what he had to go through while I was that unwell. He does sometimes bring it up and although it makes me feel uncomfortable because I guess there is still a defence mechanism like I want to pretend it never existed. I talk about it because I want him to deal with it now rather than carrying it with him through his adult life

I am a licensed marriage, family therapist, and I find it highly agitating that people think it’s trendy to fake mental health issues. Having any sort of disassociative state comes from extensive trauma and you don’t see demons and mystical creatures as alters. Additionally, disassociative identity disorder is very rare to have in its full capacity. having other issues such as Tourette’s can be very difficult for a person. These things make a mockery out of those who really have them. I personally struggle with anxiety and it has taken me a very long time different therapies to really get under control. If these people truly had these disorders, they would cry because of how debilitating they can be.

The worst part about this is, it's making getting diagnosed for certain mental illnesses that are *actually* impairing your ability to function a *lot* harder. I need to get tested for quite a few things that are and have been effing up my ability to do basic tasks, like remembering to eat, being able to go out in public spaces without "special items", and being able to tell when someone has malicious intent towards me, to name a few. When I tried to get an appointment, the people working at my local psychological facilities weren't able to book me anything less than 13 months from the day I called due to a "sudden, overwhelming amount of adolescents and young adults" seeking diagnoses.
While I am all for the self-discovery the pandemic led many of us to, and I am very glad for the people whose suspicions were correct and were able to get treatment, this online "trend" of being neurodivergent and mentally ill is affecting people in real life. These children gotta stop.

I can go to stores and stuff by myself, but thinking about living on my own causes me to think of every worst case scenario possible. Even now just thinking about it makes me nervous. People faking it don’t know that it’s actually causing people to not live full lives or be independent due to the rabbit hole they go down, not to mention that it feels like your chest is caving in on itself when it gets really bad. You don’t just twitch around and shit when you have an anxiety disorder. Most of the time when an anxiety attack happens, I want to curl up, close my eyes, and pretend I’m somewhere else away from what’s causing it. And when I do that, I’m still as a rock

Mental disorders aren’t something fun and quirky, they can be painful and often a living hell. As someone with both ADHD and extreme anxiety/paranoia, even being medicated is a huge issue. If I take Adderall I have a high chance of having an anxiety or panic attack at any time of the day, which is embarrassing in itself. But if I don’t medicate, I can’t pay attention and it becomes infinitely more difficult to pay attention in school, so I fall behind. Plain and simple: their life is boring and they want something special to get attention any way possible.
Without any talents or natural charisma (with which you get people to like you) there are two ways: get people to hate you and get people to feel bad for you.
One type of those useless attention seekers become trolls, the other base their whole internet persona about being a victim. That being a victim is usually in the shape of an illness like cancer, depression or autism or in the shape of societal repression like the people who base their whole internet personality on a sexuality no one ever heard of like Zygosexual (that's real btw)
Also as someone who's both bisexual and *diagnosed* as depressed i absolutely hate those people since they deligitimize most actual problems people who have those problems (illness or intolerant society) face as well as constantly use "phobia" (ok, it's "being ableist" not "diablephobia" but same shit) as a defense when people call them out, like seriously how is a guy that slept with gay men homophobic for saying a rape fetish isn't a sexuality?

I first saw how it works a week after I met her and she had a complete personality switch that day up until after our lunch break. She didn't remember a single thing that happened. When I ask her to describe it she basically says it feels like she takes a break and then comes back. The others can't see what she sees and basically, when it happens she doesn't know therefore I'd have to tell her what she did or said during that time. As someone with mental health issues this is really a big issue in our community and I love when others address this since most of creators with disorders and or tourettes get a lot of backlash because most people think they are faking, and not just on social media in real life too.
When I got sent to the hospital after my first tic started doctors kept saying I was faking it because faking tourettes was apparently a "trend", I didn't even know what tourettes was and no doctor even mentioned it and just kept saying nothing is wrong with you, it sent me to depression because I didn't know what was wrong with me and no one told me anything, and living in a religious country everyone thought I was possessed and kept taking me to get cleansed from demons, it went like that for months till I had a stroke, and after it I had a severe tic attack where I bit my hand and kept punching myself and ripping my skin, that was when they finally got me a professional doctor in the field (I live in a small country doctors professional in fields like this are hard to just go to and get an appointment especially since tourettes is really rare in my country) I learned what tourettes was and I'm now way better and rarely tic thanks to medication, but I still have a long way to go since I still need to work on my disorders. If this had effected my life this bad I don't know what others are going through.

People get bullied so badly online for disorders no matter the age and it makes me sick to my stomach to see or even hear about.
I've had bad experiences with doctors too, it was hard to get a diagnosis because doctors around here are quick to blame it on you and not look deeper into it, they also blame it on "Trends" its why you have to push push push for tests and screenings and checkups and see other professionals aswell since its even hard to get physical illnesses diagnosed much less mental or neurological. And it shouldn't have to be that hard, you shouldn't have to push for months or years on end just to be taken seriously and looked into to find "Oh you were right all along" and you have what you suspected. Also have gotten numerous incorrect diagnosis's because I can't speak for myself and my mother likes to be vague and not give details which a doctor or therapist NEED, and my doctors and therapists wont let me write things down to talk to them they insist on my mom has to be my spokesperson, and IW as put on medications that made me very very sick. Luckily got everything turned around thankfully.

Sufferers don't usually even notice much as a defence mechanism. It's only when you start treatment that you realise something is going on. I hate it when people create themselves alters. They're just different parts of yourself that are dissociated. When you start becoming aware of it, it's like constantly waking up as if ou were drunk before. It can be treated even if it's hard. I understand that DID exists, that it's really rare, that fugue (blackout) episodes mean a person might not be aware of some or all of the alters, and that alters can be a different age or the other sex, or even less 'developed', i.e. abstract or incomplete in a way. But there are too many DID fakers, and they really bug me. Not only because they're lying and making light of a serious mental illness for attention, but because their fake alters are just as predictable as their waking selves: always either extremely sensitive or highly antagonistic, always LGBTQ and/or DDlg, politically liberal, vegan, and either unaffiliated with religion or into paganism or wicca. As someone with Tourette's Syndrome, I fucking hate this. Not only are there tics, but its like ADHD to the extreme. My main problem with tourettes is hard to pinpoint, but one way it manifests itself is my mental inability to not procrastinate. I know that sounds silly and fake, but for me it is not a case of willpower. For 4 months, i have been pushing myself day and night to do my sork, but can never seem to do it. Finally, I told my parents and am now in therapy. He explained to me how procastinating is impossible to beat with pure willpower, because it has to do with fight/flight. Humans view any form of hard work as a threat, and our brains think "we need to get out of here", because in the wild, it would be a physical threat that we would NEED to leave.
Now, that part is actually normal, but Tourette's syndrome is like the perfect storm to permanenelty erase any hope I have of being able to push myself to do a complete job on my work

I have an emotional support cat who helps with anxiety, and I had to manually learn all the things other people innately understand, like body language, eye contact, tone and inflection, etc. It's not something that obvious and it doesn't mean I can't sit still for 3 minutes. 99% of the time I would say that nobody knows. I'm very good at masking my anxiety and dealing with it because it's an every day occurrence. If you have an anxiety disorder you do everything you can to prevent it from getting worse.

A few years ago, one girl in our year ended up in the psych ward for anxiety and depression, but it took ages for her to end up being found coz of the sheer amount of girls faking it in our year, so I guess that was probably the last straw. Most of the people stopped faking it after that.

“People just laugh at people who actually have it and nobody takes them seriously.” THATS EXACTLY CORRECT. That’s the issue. That’s why the stereotyping and stigma exists around mental health. First, no one wanted to talk about it, and now, people who don’t have it are faking it. What next? Killing the people who actually have it 😂😂

Yeah. Some people will even deny their own disorders, thinking they're just making it up or that what they feel is normal, and they're just being dramatic. I denied my depression symptoms for a long time because I was scared I would be like those girls who would pretend to self-harm and have depression. I literally thought that losing all enthusiasm for life was just a normal part of being an adult.

Meanwhile we here (one of SEA country) tries soooo hard to cover our differences (in term of mental health) from the other. I mean it's not wrong to be proud, but when these people who fake having disorder doing it, mannnnn people are shamelessly shameless.

When I was 5 my parents put me through ABA "Therapy " because they thought it would help me. They tied me down and repeatedly shocked me every time I showed any sign of Autism. They also violated me and physically abused me because I was non verbal at the time and couldn't tell anyone.
Now I have autism and ptsd.
But yeah you're soo quirky and kewl.

I'm so sorry. I worked as an ABA therapist for over a year (I'm autistic myself) and I'm glad that at least my company never used restraints or negative enforcement like that. That's barbaric. There are times where parents want us to correct stims and stuff but I have flat out refused to. Every clinic in my state is being closed in august and I have no plans on continuing working in ABA because I've just been feeling more and more gross about it. Even if all the technicians want to help kids build skills to function in life the way they are, it's the parents and administrators of the company who want us to "normalize" their children. It's just really depressing.

I had therapist for my anxiety issues a few years ago and we did a test to see if I had autism, let's just say the results came back I was pretty close to being on the spectrum. Instead I'm just forgetful, slow at learning, stupid. 🤣 I'm not entirely sure which is the better to be.. 🤔

It only took a few delusional extremists to get a concerning portion of the USA to judge Muslims in a bad fashion. Anyone who uses serious issues like mental disorders as a clout generator need to get banned from TikTok. TikTok should stop the mental disorder trend. There are much better places for posting about your mental disorders than TikTok.

The irony in them doing this for attention is I DON'T want people to give me attention for my disorders. In high school my principal outed my mental health struggles to the class when I left the room and everyone gave me looks of pity and/or disgust when I came back. It caused me to have to take the rest of my senior year courses online at home bc I was so humiliated.
The only thing is she at least didn't out my actual diagnosed disorders (PTSD, bipolar and anxiety) but it was still traumatizing. So yeah, as someone with actual disorders and having a close family member with disorders this is so disgusting to see. I'm glad there's people like you making videos to create awareness about this though.
