I was concerned Maya would never have the functionality of some of Blender's cool plugins like Hard ops, etc. You are doing a great service here sir. I am actually preferring this to hard mesh, results also seems a lot cleaner. Much appreciated!
I love speecut its one of the reasons I didnt update to 2024 yet really good job and much needed tool,one feature that would be amazing is for the draw tool to be like the ngon cutter from boxcutter for blender , right now it just draw boxes which is little slow for custom shapes
thanks for your support, yp boxcutter is the best in this area, the nature of Maya is not very friendly for history stack and hotkey( only except ctrl, shift, alt will interactive with mouse movement), I know it can be done, but require more hardcore codeing skill ( like more Maya API or C++) , I will keep looking for the solution as usual :)
I do love to keep develop it, I think next big step will require Autodesk to rebuild/improve Boolean function, there isn't too much I will be able to improve until we have a better Boolean in Maya
Wished u could separate initial edges of the base objects in the Bevel Manager so if i chose only the newly created edges from the boolean could be beveled.
It is extremely diffcult to preserve component ID in Maya, as there isn't any stack modifier system like 3ds max or Blender, that's why Bevel Manager is just another hack to bevel after boolean, there is a new componet tag in Maya, still not very good but is heading right direction, I will see if I can use it more in the future develop. thanks for the feedback.
@@Im3dJoe Yeah, when using booleans the normal way it creates a component tag for the boolean interesection edges. Wished Component Tags worked for modeling operations just like it does for deformers. Having let’s say a bevel operation using a component selection tag only on the intersection edges from the Boolean would make it procedural so if u move the objects in the Boolean the bevel still works.
Amazing tool. The only problem is when i using "Gap" function. It instantly crashes scene using default or custom cutters. Scrape works fine tho. Any chance for fix before next bonus tools release?
that's very strange, I always feel Scrape is less stable compare to Gap, would you give me more detail? which version of Maya did you use? and if not too sensitive, may I take a look at the file?

This tool is like a credit card. LOL. Fun at the spending part, but a nightmare when the bill arrives. Yes, it is super easy and super convenient at first, but wait till the cleaning up works for subdiv. It makes you want to bang your head to the wall. I use this most on parts that don't require subdiv.
yp, it's more for the hard surface concept, where you don't really need to sub-d, even like people make hard surface model in zbrush, it's going to take a hell of time to retop.

I got this from gumroad a while back, and am just now getting around to using it. speedcut is really a great tool for boolean modeling. I noticed there is a new interface in this video. will you be releasing an update or a new version any time soon?
If you haven't install Maya 2022 yet, you can still technically use SpeedCut on an older version by going to the BonusTools install location and opening the bt_speedCut.py file and running it directly in the Script Editor.
Amazing job! It looks promising, but I'm trying to work with it and I'm having a lot of issues : Mesh disappears when I SET the Base Mesh, a lot of options tells me :No Object Matches Name, etc. I would really like to find a Forum where we can discuss these issues, what to do and NOT to do unless is breaks, what the limits are, and a good documentation about all that. Because right now, I can't use it more than 5 minutes without being stuck and having to start over, and I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Hey Sacha, thanks for the feedback, looks like you may start the tool in the wrong way, how did you run the tool? do a quick test if you just use a cube and see if everything work? the video explained most of the functions.
I think your question is about how to add a bevel to the edges? if so, you can use Mesh Bevel Manager to add a bevel, but depending on how complex your shape is, it may not work well, since maya does not have a weight bevel, this means if you mix long length edge with a short length edge it mostly cause an error, so in Bevel Manager you can isolate which cutter apply bevel, check out the end of the video to get some idea. Otherwise I normally just apply a round edge in the shader to help catch some high light. It works ok in my experience.
Hi, Joe. How to delete history in Base Mesh tab. Multiple editing of the same object will cause lags and errors. You have to export the scene and then throw it into a new scene, then speedCut works correctly. I cleaned the history of Maya, it does not help.
you can grab it from app.gumroad.com/l/speedCut the tool is still not perfect as Maya boolean is very fragile, one way to try is to bake all the cutter and restore, so maya can rebuild all the boolean again, maybe it fixes the bad result.
thank you for creating this amazing tool. After using this tool for awhile, i have some problem with gap and scrape. That when im using trapezoid cube with double 90 degree angle, the thicker the gap, the more its not parallel to the cube. i think maybe is about the tool used extrude the face -> local translate Z. maybe the solution is change to extrude -> thickness. Hope that you would look for this!
I do use thickness for extruding as I know there are some issue with local translate Z, if possible can you share your file with me, I can take a look.
Upgraded to the latest version, now every time I hit set on base mesh the object completely disappears. (the new group is there) Any ideas what is happening? Maya 2019 release 3. This does not happen on default maya objects when creating a new parametric object. Only my model which is modeled from scratch.

I tried to add mc.window("jwSpeedCutWin",e = 1, tlc =(0, 1000) ) in maya's script and it said invalid use of maya object 'e'. So nothing worked for me...
@@JustChill0525 there is not restriction to the file, so I can not sure why it doesn't let you save, maybe copy file to a different place? also which version are you using? is it 1.69? because I added dockable UI, which will fix resize UI problem. let me know if there still a problem.
All the Boolean workflow will crate ngon, it’s really depends on the task you are doing, for concept art, it’s totally ok as long as it looks good in the still image render, but for most of film industry it will require clean up, just like you modeling in zbrush, it will require retop at the end.

It only appears in maya 2022 menu, for other version you will need to do it manually, go to bonus tools folder and copy paste script . The link is the video description.

I done something similar to shapeshifter, check the function with bevel manager. somewhere around 17:02 in the video( I know it's a long video which I try to cover everything as detail as possible). I like how chamber in 3dsMax ... which Maya have that one day.

HardMesh is doing something completely different with a different goal tho. HardMesh creates fillets and subdived results

it should be the same as how you normally draw a curve, I set my curve degree with 1 linear, maybe try it, not sure it relates to your case

great news!! You can use new speedCut by install maya bonus tools 2022 now.

The model is messed up after smooth ..how do I add edges?

The idea is use finalize button to make a copy of final result, then you can delete the group. The final mesh will not have any history.
