9:16 if you don’t see “move Origin” here is a workaround. Draw the line that he does but then use the transform tool. Click the small spur gear and select “translate by line” from the drop-down menu. After that click the line you drew. Hope this helps!
For users unfamiliar with the TRANSLATE tool, I made a short video showing how to move the gears into position using translate. here's the video: th-cam.com/video/kjHiFYK4WcM/w-d-xo.html Thanks Chris & Jim CM for such an awesome video and domenic b for pointing out this solution.
@@nullfox955 It's probably a newer version than he's using. check the video I posted above it shows how to get around that problem. It will also help you move any parts around in the part studio
I've been using 3D Cad since CadKey6 Dos, Alibre, SolidWorks, Fusion 360 etc. Have been messing with Onshape for a while now and keep getting blown away at how good it is, the future in bright for 3D Cad as I've seen a great deal of structured progress with this software. Sick of the expense of SW and the constant bugs, keep up the good work Onshape. BTW, this is one of the best tutorials I have seen by far :)
VERY NICE EXPLANATION.. IS THERE A POSSIBILITY THAT THE GEAR CAN BE MADE IN OTHER PLANE ? RIGHT NOW IT IS IN FRONT PLANE. HOW TO CHANGE THE PLANE OF A GEAR?
Sorry if this is a little late but here is how you can do it. Draw the line that he does but then use the transform tool. Click the small spur gear and select “translate by line” from the drop-down menu. After that click the line you drew. Hope this helps!
Great video, but with the latest version I rant into an issue I can't resolve. The “move Origin” has disappeared in v9 and the work around is only partially working, when you use the transform tool the pitch diameter of the moved gear will not move with the moved gear resulting you don't have a the pitch diameter reverence on the moved gear anymore, do you have a solution for this?
Without Mate Features, left click and drag will just move them across their sketch plane. With Mate Features, in this case Revolute, left click drag will rotate them
Please help on 11:39 even after having activated sketch two I still can't pick the little circles to extrude them !! I've redone all steps and I still can't fix my problem. If any of you guys have the solution... Btw great tutorial really well explained thanks ;)
@@ellentao6559 Well yeah, I came back at 10:08 where he uses the "Use project converter" button and as he does, I selected the inner circle of the gears (while modifying sketch 2) with this tool before to draw the line between them, and therefore, I was able to select the little circles to extrude them. It took me a big hour to figure that out, but it took me 2 minutes to resolve it ! Hope it helps :)
The Spur Gear tool places the gear on the front face. I don't know how you got it to not be flat. Sometimes you have to go back to the beginning of the video and start all over again vs. trying to fix it.
i think you also made a mistake. When putting the gear ratio ( 14:52 ) you have to put output/input (in your case 48/12 and not 12/48) thats also why you did put 15x2 instead of 15 in the revolute edit later on.
Great tutorial but outdated. Move origin not on gear menu and clocking angle added. Easy enough to figure out. Hope they add more gear types and cam belt pully. So I suggest start with the sketch instead of starting with a gear.

Thanks a lot, I was struggling on this for a quite a bit.

Version 8 of the add on has it I think
However version 9 only uses sketch a vertex or mate connector feature
This is the best tutorial I've seen in a very long time. Kudos to y'all, and thanks!

Thank you SO much for making this video. Gears was my favorite part of my Mechanical Engineering curriculum.
I like how you tell us why we should or shouldn't do it in a certain way vs. another way, and why.
Take a shot every time he says "go ahead and".
3 minuts in abd I qm alraady drumk
This is exactly what I needed. Thank you!
Great explanation! This was really easy to follow along with and understand. Kudos!
Really well done - straight forward and easy to understand - thanks for this !
This is a really good tutorial. Thanks!
You deserve so many more likes. This was straight forward and very well presented. Thank you very much.
Great tutorial. Absolutely quality content.
VERY NICE EXPLANATION..
IS THERE A POSSIBILITY THAT THE GEAR CAN BE MADE IN OTHER PLANE ? RIGHT NOW IT IS IN FRONT PLANE. HOW TO CHANGE THE PLANE OF A GEAR?
This was super helpful, thank you.
thank you so much, this is the best tutorial ever :D. helped me a lot
Thank you, super helpful, lots of great tips!
Thank you saved me lots of time.
Great explanation. How about a rack? I'm trying to create a claw mechanism...
This was great. Thank you :)
Very good video. I'm just a beginner, can you teach how to make a threaded tube? and how to make a screw and its nut.
Hello, great tutorial. Do You know how to make textured surface on curved surface?
Incredible. Great, clear video - thanks.
This was very helpful, thanks man!!
Thanks brother
Never thought Howl from Howl's Moving Castle would know so much about gears
oh, exacly what i needed, it helped very much! thanks
16:15 You're rotating the blue gear. It has 12 pins and thus 12 holes for the other gear's pins. Which makes a total of 24 sections. 360/24=15.
BRILLIANT VIDEO! Thanks
Awesome tutorial! Thank you!!!
I don't have the option to move origin. Is there a way to fix this?

It is good method but realy useful for 4 gera train or Compound gear?

cool vid, but how do u drag the gears in the assembly?

Awesome. Thank you!
Plugins are why I switched to OnShape after 15 years of Solid works.
You have soo many vids over Onshape.
I can´t find the How to start with Onshape. I´m I wrong? ( I hope.. 😉)
Great vids btw

How are you clicking the mouse to and manually rotating gears. Mine both spin but at the same speed. But the gears are 3:1
omg this is all amazing
I don't have the move origins option. What should I do?
I feel like Patrick Bateman is teaching me about gears
11:22 especially
How do you make a hexagon extrude in the gear?
How do you change teeth size?
When i make the back plate i only get a hole in one of the gears, like i can only select one gear hole when i try to extrude. What am i doing wrong?
can we make internal gear from this script?
can someone explain how i can rotate the gears so it lays flat
i also cant to it with transform

I din't have an move origin

10:43 its not scaling like this for me
The add button is no longer there. so this entire video is useless
