  • Santa Marta, the Caribbean coastal town of Colombia - here is my first impression of this little village in the north of the country!
    Santa Marta is an apparently upcoming destination for digital nomads, and sooo many local people suggest basing in Santa Marta for the month instead of Cartagena.
    Today, Ryan and I are going to explore Santa Marta for the first time. We will visit many parks, museums, eat the famous menu del dia, walk the promenade and much more, and we will share our opinions with you because we weren't sure about coming here due to the amount of negative comments from tourists who have been here pre-pandemic.
    So, let's discover together if Santa Marta in Colombia is worth visiting and check out my first impression!

      What I basically said was that the first church in the Americas was built in 1510 and completed in 1540. It was built by Diego Columbus, Christopher Columbus first born son. Also, La Hispaniola, which is known as Haiti and Dominican Republic was the first Island discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1492.

    @joyoushapes How can you say that Santa Marta is "MOST AVOIDED"????? It's one of the most popular tourist destinations in Colombia. The city that tourists avoid (and shouldn't avoid) is Barranquilla, nearby. Barranquilla has much more cultural activities, and the second largest Carnival celebration in the world, which lasts for a month.
    Santa Marta is for visiting--for a few days, maybe a week. But if you want to LIVE somewhere--for a month, lets' say--you're better off in Barranquilla, which has more things happening. Tourists avoid Barranquilla because it isn't as picturesque, but there's more cultural activity there. (And for that reason the beaches near Barranquilla are less crowded.) Did you spend much time in Barranquilla? I didn't think so.

      @@joyoushapes I get that. The point is that the video title is misleading. It implies that Santa Marta is some kind of hidden or unappreciated "town"? Would you say that Miami is the "most avoided" town on the Gulf in Florida? Your video titles should be accurate.

    I am now watching close to 5 minutes. And I do see that you look at the main places when everything was empty of people. Santa Marta is hot and therefore people prefers not to run around when it is hot. Even you personally commented the the wall of the church was reflecting to sun very strong…..

    I don't get the "most avoided" title. It's easily one of the most visited cities in Colombia. Just Tayrona park is the most visited national park in the country.

      @guizot2010 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes, you're right. The city which is "most avoided" by foreign tourists (and shouldn't be) is nearby Barranquilla, which has a richer musical history and the second largest Carnival celebration in the world after Rio.

      I used that term for two reasons:
      1) Because all the tourists who have been there told me not to go, as they didn't feel safe. Only locals encouraged me to go.
      2) Because you end up engaging and I can answer you

    Greeting Hola I have lived and worked in Santa Marta. The day after a flood be extra careful what you eat from whom you get it and hand washing double duty is needed. Wash or Sani wipe every fruit or bottle you buy. Their lack of storm drainage is a national shame. Corruption broken contracts and missed deadlines all mean filthily water is everywhere. Bonus day for birds rats et al. Nightmare to lower-level homes shops stores garages business... Travelers intestines beware.

    • @joyoushapes
      @joyoushapes  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for sharing, this is super important! We noticed that the drainage system was inexistent and often the toiler and shower got clogged. Thanksfully our apartment was on the second floor, but lower-level homes and shop have the worst :(

    Good video, no idea why you need the clickbait. Most avoided? I guess you never got to move outside of Centro. Did you go to Rodadero? This is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Colombia.

      @@RobertWoolford I talked to full-time travelers, holidaymakers, and backpackers. They went to Santa Marta, so they are part of those 400k, but they still didn’t like it. That’s why I made this video because I believe Santa Marta has potential, and it’s great to know many people visit it 😊

    • @guizot2010
      @guizot2010 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The tourists you talked to clearly don't know what they're talking about. Santa Marta is, in fact, over trodden with tourists--tourists everywhere. There are other great Caribbean towns in Colombia that are much better, without tourists. Please don't make any videos about those, so they stay that way. Let all the tourist keep going to Santa Marta.
