    I think this is the under-discussed bit: Paul was good at *everything*. Like, the quintessential post-Bird 3: strong, fast enough, good handle, good passer, good rebounder, could give you some steals, tough d, good in transition, strong in the post, can finish in traffic, elite mid-range scorer, all-star perimeter shooter. He was clutch, he played up to his competition even when he was on bad teams, and as it seems like the broader community is finally coming to realize, a really fundamentally excellent ballplayer, especially his footwork. Paul isnt the GOAT, but he's an extremely worthy Hall of Fame inductee, and a criminally underappreciated star. Just a lot of fun to watch, and to root for. I am hoping that video review will let some young folks see what we got to enjoy in Boston for so long.
    Thanks for this terrific reel, Maxamillion, a lovely trip down memory lane.

    • @spiidey1
      @spiidey1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      2006 was the first year after the NBA completely curtailed hand checking. The scoring explosion by perimeter players followed as a result, but the overall pace was still slow compared to today because it centered around low post play, and not chucking 30+ threes per game, or pick and rolls near half court.

    He also deserves to be mentioned as an all-time great Boston Celtic, along with Bird, McHale, Parrish, Johnson, Havlicek, Russell, Cousy, et. al. He may not have the same championship pedigree, but he is literally the most important player to that franchise since he was drafted into the NBA.

    Pierce was exceptionally gifted fundamentally along with a great basketball IQ but his only problem was that he didn't have exceptional athleticism. His game in his prime was the same as D Wade when he started aging. It's still beautiful to watch nonetheless.

    • @toughcrowds
      @toughcrowds 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      He was kinda athletic , deceptively fast from 00' to 04' getting 25ppg alot pretty easy. After that he really just went full crafty.

    He played in the same era as many legendary wing players like Kobe Bryant, Vince Carter, Tracy Mcgrady, Allen Iverson and Ray Allen, so it's not surprising that he was underated by many casual NBA fans. Not to mention guys like Dwyane Wade, Lebron James and Carmelo Anthony entering the league during his prime years. There were much flashier and more athletic players to watch, but few were as polished and smooth as the truth!!!
