I like the theory that it's not the heat that causes the bolt signal but the amount of sun hours in the day.
I have been planting little gem lettuce for several years now, we love it. Some of mine has just started to bolt.
We call the callaloo Marogo in South Africa it grows like weeds all over the place
Greg you should try the ornamental amaranths - kiss me over the garden gate, love lie bleeding…. Beautiful colours and same taste as the regular green amaranth. Look fantastic in the garden. You can eats REDS as well as GREENS :)
I agree with your basil observation. Basil is cold sensitive, so give basil as much heat as you can. I put basil in the eggplant and pepper category. I try to convince my pepper plants that they are in Mexico.
I loved calaloo when i had it in the Caribbean. I had it in a seafood soup. Ive never seen it growing before, that is fascinating. One year I saw that Baker Creek seeds had some callaloo amaranth seeds so I bought them but none of them sprouted so that was disappointing. You made me want to try again!

Thanks Greg
I always look forward to your updates!
I will definately give that lettuce a whirl...we love our Romaine lettices (we love Ceasar salads) so always looking for another variety to try!
The callaloo looks amazing!!!
In our garden I am pulling the rest of our 365 heads of garlic (went a bit stupid last fall when planting...usually only do a couple hundred!😂), we are being overwhelmed by our flatbeans and cucumbers!
Tomatoes are about 4 days away from first harvest!
One of our best years ever...no potatoe beetles, no cucumber beetles - yet, but of course the damned squirrels are taking potatoes at an alarming rate!
Anyway...thanks again for the video and have a great day!

I'm so glad my squirrels leave the potatoes along. Man your tomatoes are way ahead of mine!
@maritimegardening4887 yeah never had tomatoes this early and the squirrels are driving me nuts!!!
Is it too late to replant squash? Mine don't seem so happy
I've never done it this late but I think it's worth a try - especially if you have a fast-growing variety.
