What a National Treasure, but so forgotten here in Canada. My parents, who were not particularly musical, back in England, thought both she and John Vickers were wonderful. She had a great common touch. In 1986 I turned up for a chorus rehearsal for "Aida" at COC on the wrong night, Maureen was rehearsing for the Mother Superior in 'Dialogues of the Carmelites' I was already there, so I sat in for the rehearsal. She saw me sat by myself in the bleachers, and came and sat next to me and we chatted until she had to go and sing. God Bless Maureen
I don't know exactly why, but Forrester always sounds to me like a low-voiced Schwarzkopf, an "alternative world" mezzo Schwarzkopf. This impression of mine is uncanny in 3:10-3:30. Anyway, here she delivers another sublime interpretation, with deep feeling, tasteful expressivity and the most beautiful legato.

Beautiful....I remember her well...I sang the Dido's Lament, too, with John Newmark...Lots of members and Maureen was always my inspiration.
Marvelous. Beautifully sung and acted.
What a marvellous breath control... Fly fly Maureen Forrester and rest in peace...
What a privilege to be able to listen to this magnificent singing. I loved her voice and her artistry. How cruel her final years were.

Une lecon de chant et d'interpétation. Magnifique. Merci !!!
Imaginez si le monde s'arrêtait cinq minutes pour écouter cette interprétation!
Good legato. It makes the piece so much more powerful.
So beautiful
Simply amazing! I really like her interpretation. How come I have not heard of her before?
You know how Canadians are.
Dido's Lament is the aria "When I am laid in earth" from the opera Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell
Siempre viva Maureen Forrester!
This is an exquisite interpretation.
Très bonne interprétation,tragique et spectrale.
❤️🌹

Ygor Coelho this is because she was blessed with a true Contralto instrument, a rather rare female voice
@camalane Quelle occasion!
j ai l'impression d'entendre Janet Baker, tant pour le timbre que la manière d'interpréter
Not my favorite interpretation. Many others to be heard.
