  • In this demonstration, I paint a local old barn in oils, from life. I do this in the spirit of a tutorial, but with the intention of having you take the principles that I teach and integrate my techniques into your own style.
    You will be able to enjoy the entire painting process in real time, with only one or two quick cuts...no speed painting or fast motion.
    SOME OF TRENT'S OIL PAINTING GEAR/SUPPLIES:
    Rembrandt oil paint set: amzn.to/2jLwOzo
    Lefranc titanium white (my favorite): amzn.to/2jLA5Pw
    I use primarily Rembrandt and Windsor & Newton (and Winton) oils in the following colors:
    *Burnt Sienna
    *Permanent Alizarin Crimson
    *Cadmium Red Light
    *Cadmium Yellow Pale
    *Ivory Black
    *Titanium White (by Lefranc & Bourgeois)
    *Pthalo Green / Viridian Hue (same thing)
    *Dioxazine Purple
    *Ultramarine Blue
    *(sometimes Pthalo Blue)
    ***Finally, if you want to see me and my family's vlog, click here: / @artandhomesteading ...we talk about our farm animals, our projects regarding our house and property, and generally have fun...you might find us entertaining. :)

    I love how a simple barn painting can convey such emotion and enough information so we can know just what that moment was like. Thanks! Well done!

    I really enjoyed your 'roadside' plein air chat. I also like your interaction with your (at the time) future viewers. Very relaxing to just spend some time with you, and learning quite a bit about outdoor painting and painting in general. Thanks and Happy New Year to you Trent.

    I just started using oils. I lay everything out with acrylic and then finish in oil. But watching you has amazed me. What are you mixing with the oils? So you use same all the way through?
    I never liked oils because they took so long to dry. But omg I love what your doing.
    Many artists say fat over lean?
    You seem to use the same all the way through and I like how quick your finishing.

    • @TrentGudmundsen
      @TrentGudmundsen  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Barbara, thank you so much. Yes, I like to use the paint as thick as possible whenever I can. It seems to help me stay loose and I also really love the textures it creates. But I do thin down the initial wash and sketch with an odorless thinner (Gamsol or NeutralThin), so that’s a little bit of the fat over lean principle there. Anyway, try it out that way; you might really enjoy it! Happy painting to you!Thank you again!

    thats funny the camera blurred out perfectly at the right time to check the barn side values. I always blur (cross) my eyes to not see detail. it actually helped

    Great raw feel on the video. Love how you just jump into the video. I did some inktense outdoors, but still need to move up to acrylics in plein air. Interesting close up of the barn. I usually paint a bit more further back. I'm not sure I would paint off the highway with the traffic. Keep up the great work! Hope you could check my channel sometime.

    I like your technic and the way than you mix the color, applying layer by layer. How do you use the transparent colors over darker colors? Thank you in advance. Greetings from Bogotá, Colombia!

    • @TrentGudmundsen
      @TrentGudmundsen  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, Alberto. As a general rule, I simply paint thicker paint over the thinner paint. If it doesn't work, then I'll scrape it. I hope that isn't too simple of an answer for your question. I appreciate it. :) -Trent

      @@TrentGudmundsen Hi, Thank you so much, I begin to understand the importance to work oil over thinner paint, its more easy!, I applied your suggestion yesterday. The simple answer are better! A big hug from Bogotá, Colombia!

    Hi Trent. I like you style. Question if you don't mind: Do you do this for a living or you got a second job. Just wondering how easy it would be to make a living as an artist. Please keep it up . Cheers

    • @ArtandHomesteading
      @ArtandHomesteading 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jeff. Great question. Yeah, I very grateful that I'm able to do this for a living (no side job). I'd say that anyone with determination and work ethic can make it as an artist. There will be hard times, especially at the beginning, but if you love it you'll make it work (just like anything else you love). Follow me on instagram if you'd like, where I post almost every day. @trentgudmundsen
