I know
I agree totally
It's Happy
This is the music of the smile. The early 1900s were a time when just about everyone owned a piano where family and neighbors would gather around and sing together. G. K. Chesterton said that records destroyed neighborhood singing. People started listening to professional singers for the silly idea that those people could sing better.
I’m enjoying the slideshow of ordinary people in daily life as much as the music. I would love to browse around in these general stores, drugstores, hardware stores & etc. of this era.
Oh yeah, so cool!
Great music to do chores by. The sprightly pace keeps me in motion. The music me in a sunnier mood, too. It’s inherently optimistic.
You said it. I was just about to go do some chores!
That’s a good girl

Listening to this while playing cards and making donuts was the highlight of both my evening and my 1am
I'd have more fun listening to it and eating the donuts!

WE ARE MAKING OUR DEPARTURE FROM THE SALOON WITH THIS ONE 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I'VE GYATT TO MAKE IT TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD SINGING EVENT!
tfw your girl gets rizzed up by a rather odd fellow at the saloon 🤦♂️
when the jolly old rag hits extra hard 👌

@@BongbongoI have no idea what kind of dialect that guy above us is speaking......
Nice to hear a broad selection of Ragtime, some say America’s first pop music. Thanks.
Yes, pop music used to be actually good. ❤
This is so wonderful- hats off to the person who sat down to create this compilation of masterpieces!
I can’t sit. I listen, dance, and let my whole body move to the rhythm , it’s exciting and invigorating- in one Big word “ Exercise” Am starting to sweat now. Thank you. 90s already.
Atta boy! Fine artistry. One piano man Band. ALL notes clear, no sustain, and what rich register. Bravo!
We're using this as background music for the saloon in our old west themed yard haunt. It adds *so much* to the ambience; very happy to have found the video. Many thanks for posting!
Come to think...... a person playing can make the ambiente even more cool? Try, im sure it will be fantastic!
That’s totally awesome 😎
I love how upbeat aint we got fun!! I'm glad to know there are other fun ragtimes beside scott joplins
Willie The Lion Smith
It was strange to hear “A Cottage For Sale,” one of the saddest songs in the entire world, sound so upbeat and carefree.
@@frankiebowie6174 i didn't know the song so i looked it up, listened to it, then came and listened to this rag version. You're so right hahaha
There's a bunch of tunes in here that aren't ragtime and should not be confused as such:
Ain't We Got Fun
Charleston Rag
Dream Of You
A Smile Goes A Long Way
All Aboard
A March Medley
All American Woman
All or Nothing at All
These Quakers Are Shoulder Shakers
Blue Heaven
Bow Wow
Bright Eyes
Bright Eyes
Chili Bom Bom
I Certainly Could
Dream Home
Pretty Lady
A Lady in Love
A Lane in Spain
Most of these are player piano roll arrangements that have been transcribed and quantized and fall in the novelty and foxtrot piano genres respectively.
Do any of these go by different names? Specifically Dream of You?
@@finnkomai1447 I imagine some of the titles are abbreviated to a single line or the end of a line, common mistake.
Yes, "Ain't We Got Fun?" is from 1921...not early 1900s.
@@Diana.Danieli Yeah, and it's not a ragtime tune at all. Rags were written right out until around 1930 but very little were written after around 1923.
When this plays you know how to fight properly
Those buildings still exist where I live and are just as beautiful and nostalgic as the music. Thank you so much for keeping the history alive for future generations.
The cottages rag goes hard!
I agree. The musical term for what is being done is called syncopation. Quite beautiful in ragtime pieces. If you’d like another interesting one, look up Peril In Pantomime.
какая чистая по-детски наивная жизнерадостная музыка, а ведь в те времена она считалась, не всеми - неприличной. музыка описывает времена лучше всяких слов.
Love that blue ribbon rag
So do I

Love the old photos; nice touch
Wow, what a fantastic historical excursion. THANKS! I even bookmarked this page. ... and, of course, I subscribed.
Thank you for this great collection of rags and early photos. Great stuff!
Perfect new addition to our "bedroom soundtrack" -- really helps her get those creative juices flowing, and def puts this guy fully into that steamy, slippery sort of mood.
10/10, would smash again!
That sound weirdly... sexual.
new smash bros meta dropped
Spectacular photos!
Tuesday or Wednesday, going on a long drive. This will be perfect music for the early morning.
📻🙂
Thanks. Good music and great pictures.
I could be at the circus, watching a silent film, or waiting for the ice cream man. I’m not sure.
I think it's all three.
I still say Joplin was/is the King of Ragtime.
Wonderful, music + photos!!!
Best musi ever, pleasant and happy, for people who love to dance
Ahhh, music to my ears!!!!
Thankyou. Thankyou thankyou
❤🎉Loved it! SHARING!!!🎉❤
very enjoyable
QUE BELLA MELODÍA!!!!
Great great great
Good old ragtime
I enjoy this music from time to time
Why does this playlist actually slap
I really appreciate the effort done to make the piano sound like a musical instrument. The attacks are pleasingly mellow, and the balance between bass, middle register and bass is exemplary. The tempo makes sense, too ☺.
Also...whoever put this up......much abliged.....thanks....
I love this awesome music
Thanks for posting it 🙏
Love the video! Does Dream Of You go by a different name?
I feel like I lived another life in 1860 something.
1890s to 1917 if you are talking about Ragtime .

Gonna play this when I get my Pip-Boy
When I’m in the saloon and some cowboys is making some big talk and the pianist starts playing this (I’m gonna show him why I oughtta)
currently trying to learn how to juggle and ragtime tunes felt like the proper background music for this occasion LOL
Today people sit at home, order online, and watch videos & listen to music on their phones all while lying on the couch in the dark.
And call it “living” and “better off now”. 😉
But the ragtime guys
I really wish I could learn to play these rags
@@Julie-oh5gp if you already play the piano, go for it. They are not as hard as they seem. In particular, once you learn your first 3 rags, the rest is pretty straight forward. Your hands will be used to the syncopated rhythm and they will all feel the same (to a certain degree of course).
Your point being…..
Just bussing , no cap
An Old Time Medley !
Great music- from a time when people had character
What are you talking about people still have character
@MersitonTheGood well yes- I agree 👍. But there's a big difference between good character and bad character 🤔 😉
@@tomosbon7347lots of people then had bad character
This music was played in bordellos at first and the people who loved it were considered to have poor character so…..lay off the “ oh golly gee things were so much nicer way back when”. Its a fantasy

Ain't We Got Fun reminded me of a certain Christmas song or 2( I forgot what its called)
Here Comes Santa Claus (Right Down Santa Claus Lane).
Indeed it reminded me of a familiar Christmas song and I wondered which came first, and ain’t we got fun came first
Any details on the pianist/s?
Where i can find All Aboard?

I believe Maestro Midi is at the keys in this particular set of jovial recordings :D

As an African, I feel ragtime did something great in the mind of a slave those days. When I close my eyes I see a white man playing and a slave watching in amusement and the master is not driving him away tho. Its beautiful
Ragtime was created after slavery was abolished in the United States. The first big ragtime composer we know of was Scott Joplin, now considered the king of ragtime. He was a free black man.
So ragtime definitely has some influence from the African diaspora, though it was primarily influenced by American military marches.
When ragtime became infused by the influx of Caribbean black diaspora in New Orleans, it then became jazz.
In other words, it’s all connected man💯

🇨🇵 Unfortunately, in France, almost nobody knows this joyful ragtime. When I want to let somebody know what it is, I have to remember him/her it was the music of the small Charly Chaplin's b/w silent films. Only then they understand !😒
The 20th century, back when America didn't have the nonsense problems we have today. How much was rent back then? How much money did you need to buy a house? How much did you pay to go to college? How much did healthcare cost? We need to go back to those golden ages, we never should've left them.
