- Is it possible to upgrade Samsung X5 SSD portable 500GB to 2TB (Samsung 970 EVO PCIe m2).
I did it successfully and here is my work.

Thanks for sharing! I picked up the new Crucial P5 NVMe M2 on sale over Black Friday weekend. Plugged into the housing within less than 5 minutes. Formatted on the iMac, tested it. And took my 500GB device to a 1TB drive for less than $120. Works great!

Yes, Any NVME ssd same socket with 970 will works fine.

Oh sorry i did not know about m2 dual size. However, if it look like 970 and screw hold position same place then it can fits the enclosure
@@xuandna6632 thank you for reply. Watching your video I can see a thick pad under the SSD. In the end, the dual side SSDs are 1mm thicker than the single side ones. By removing or reducing that thermal pad, it should fit. What do you think about it?
mattia miroballo oh yea! It should work.That pad is not for heat sink i think 😆 becoz the 970 much heater than X5. Give it a try my friend & let me know if yours dual ssd working fine 😊
@@xuandna6632 that pad is not for heatsink but it should conduct heat on the upper shell.
In any case I think I'll try to shape or directly change it with a thinner one.

@@xuandna6632 I finally mounted seagate firecuda 510 2tb inside the box. No problems for do it, but with m.2 dual side, the space is limited, so I removed thermal pad under b-side ram. I only used a little aftermarket 1mm pad piece for the rest of b-side.

I think It's may help transfer the heat to main aluminum case. The case is main heatsink. Sorry for late respond
Hi, can I use extracted nvme ssd disk x5 from this device to put on matherboard and instal win 10 on it?
I didn't try but I think it's works.
Can I upgrade it with an 970 Evo Plus? Or just a 970 Evo? Also on that note, can I upgrade it with another brand nvme? Thanks

Will this work with the new 980 Pro? And how about the 860 Evo? That one has 4 less pins is that a problem?
Same socket will work fine. However the speed wont go full speed due to limited of thunderbolts 3.0 usb-c. Btw, 860 ssd is not nvme ssd cant install 😎👍

I have this ssd in 2tb. Can I take it out and use it in a Asus ROG Strix Z690-A? I'm new to pc and my pc doesn't recognize this ssd since it's thunderbolt.
1st double check type for your SSD FORMAT (FAT, exFAT, NTFS or Apple) if apple FORMATS so your window won't recognize it you have to re-format it in Window disk manager. Good luck bro
how about temperatures? these EVO discs are basically notorious for high working temperatures?
Yes temp is hịgher about 10% than the x5 ssd

@@oliverbytes I copied about 20 - 45gb mp4 movies It's getting warmer little bit but not throttling.. I didn't backup usually so I think 960 working fine

Any NVMe M2 ssd will work fine, however, it's not guaranteed full speed performance... good luck my friend
I just installed a samsung ssd 980 1TB in X5 enclosure and the problem is that I am not getting speeds and moreover there is too much jitter in the speed test
Oh no, It’s limited of thunderbolt3 + PCIe gen3. Samsung x5 hardware is PICe Gen3 only. Make sure you used thunderbolt3 USB-C cable or higher speed I think speed will be increased. Or you can test it on thunderbolt4 it may gets max speed of PCIe Gen3 in X5. For x5 enclosure only samsung 970 evo worked great 👍
So pci 4 drive would not work like a wd black? Thought was backwards compatible
do you know if this enclosure is compatible with 4Tb SSD like XPG SX8100 PCIe?
I've checked ur Sx8100 PCIe. It's same socket/pin with Samsung 970 then it will works fine. However, if it's double side you have to remove pad plastic seat under. Good luck my friend

@@ahmalife Very sorry about my mistake. I've just re-testing. And yes it's true the 970 plus get only 1300mb write speed. I'll try to upgrade new firmware and see what's going on next :D
