OMFS: How Competitive it is & Tips for Applicants

Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a competitive specialty. As a resident I get asked about matching into OMFS all the time and I wanted to look at the recent statistics to be able to answer it accurately! I will also provide a few tips I have for future applicants regarding choosing which programs to apply to.

I was wondering that is the acceptance to the maxfax the same with other medical specialties? Like is there MD and international categories of applications ? Because from what i heard that you can’t apply unless you have a dds and since most of the international have bds and need 2 extra years to get their dds so does that mean they are equally accepted after getting dds ?

You need a DDS or DMD to apply that is correct. There are some programs that take international applications in the US. I'm not as familiar with the application process for foreign-trained applicants unfortunately.
