I started buying a fiber supplement because my husband (at 76) and I (at 73) both have had trouble with regularity. I had tried a version in capsules from Dr. Gundry, which was just not enough, in quantity. I’ve tried Emma, which probably helps, but not enough. Finally I found one that was really enough: Peak Bioboost. It comes as a white powder and you put a whole SCOOP in your coffee or tea. You can take it twice a day but I’ve not found that to be necessary. The active ingredients are Inulin (from Jerusalem artichoke) and VG FOS (fructooligosaccharide), acacia gum, and XOS (xylioligosaccharide, and a small amount of magnesium citrate. I also find the need to boost my fat intake using MCT oil as needed. The supplement keeps me regular, the fat makes it comfortable, if you know what I mean. The MCT oil brand I use is Garden of Life, whose products I’ve used on and off since 2004. If you need help to have comfortable, regular BMs, you need it! Make sure you get what works for you and yours-no need to suffer. Hope this helps.

How about Yacon (Smallanthus sonchifolius) a relative of Jerusalem artichoke. It contains Fructoologosaccharides and I grow it in my garden. Hi and greetings from Germany.
I make a sandwich thin out of mozzarella, egg, psyllium husk powder and baking powder. It makes a decent sandwich that doesn't have any starches or grains. Another source of soluble fiber is konjac root, which can be found in shirataki noodles and in glucomannan.
Ashlyn-qg5tt Eggs have water, and I drink when I eat. PS: Two sandwich thins have a half tablespoon of powder, and the whole purpose is to draw up the moisture and bind the ingredients. It's an appropriate use.

That whole "bristle brush" cleaning out the colon theory messed up my colon. My ulcerative colitis did not go into remission until decades later when I finally cut out all fiber. Now I can have some soluable fiber without consequences. Some of us do fine not clogging up the colon so it needs a bristle brush.
I need to be very careful with fibre as well. Any fibre from grains causes constipation. I can handle tiny amounts of chia or flax. A few nuts. I use konjac powder as a thickener. But if I have the noodles, even 1/4 serving is iffy. I can eat vegetables without issue. I limit fruit to in season, local, berries, cooked apple from our trees, for pork, except the Christmas clementine. Those I buy. But that is the frutose, not fibre. I wonder who paid for the study?
Intermittent fasting and my initial keto lifestyle destroyed my ulcerative colitis fairly quickly (a few months). So much so, I was able to steadily ween myself of the prescribed asacol altogether. Ulcerative colitis free - I've been consuming fiber; and anything else I want for years.
@@scottycranwell283 Oh yeah, I forgot about intermittent fasting! That helped! Cutting out seed oils helped so I didn't have to use the meds. But I still had some issues for years thinking that would be the best I could do. So It was cutting out all fiber that put it into remission for me. Basically carnivore. It's great to feel normal after 25 years. Slowly adding some veg and fruit or roots back in slowly to see what works.
What do you have histamine intolerance and the fermented foods are really hard on that how could you still get probiotics that can help you without affecting intolerance of histamine?
In my experience, it's best to stay away from all probiotics until your histamine intolerance resolves itself (this can take a few years). For soluble fiber, the safest bet is pure psyllium husks or psyllium husk powder whisked in a glass of water.
Love it when topics come out and it touches on something you've been looking into. Great video Thomas. The only thing I would say is that resistance starch may Trump all as far as the best food for your gut microbiome. Aside from that and no offense, but a big issue that gets overlooked by most people is that consuming additional fibre without having sufficent gut microbiome diversity or just severely lacking needed species in your gut means that all the fibre consumption in the world will likely not benefit you and you will po*p it all out as you won’t have the gut microbes to consume it This is literally like putting the cart before the horse. A landmark study by Professor Christopher Gardner and Eric Sonnenberg showed exactly that Study participants consisted of those who consumed fibre only from high fibre vs those who consumed kimchi and other fermented vegetables, vegetable brine drinks, and kombucha tea. Those on the high fiber diet were eating fruits and vegetables, legumes, seeds, whole grains, and nuts but did not have any of the nineteen inflammatory proteins decrease. Their microbiome diversity for the most part stayed the same and did not increase like the fermented food group. Those participants eating fermented foods had four types of immune cells that showed less activation, and they also experienced a decrease in nineteen inflammatory protein levels measured in blood samples. One of these proteins, interleukin 6, has been linked to conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, Type 2 diabetes, and chronic stress. Now in the interests of fairness and to play Devil’s Advocate given long enough perhaps the high fibre group could have slowly grown a greater diversity of gut microbial species. The ongoing American Gut Project that collects and looks at foods consumed by participants has noted that the greater the diversity of gut microbe species the healthier participants tend to be, all other things being equal. They discovered that one way to expand gut microbial species is to expand consumption of up to 30 vegetables a week but including different nuts and spices also counts. I don’t know about you, but I prefer to try fermented foods to accomplish the same before attempting to take on such a herculean task.
Is it not true that the fermentation experienced by soluble fibre can be enhanced by the presence of insoluble fibre? I appreciate that, if pushed to choose one or the other, soluble is the way to go, but...why not both? Love the content, keep it nutrient-dense!

flax has compounds that bind to estrogen receptors. thing is, it just binds to them but does not activate any estrogen like effects. also, when they are bound, they are not available for proper estrogen to bind to. so its basically an estrogen-blocker.

Most dextrins are used as adhesives for paper products. Only some white dextrins are used in food and added in very small concentration. That should give you a hint whether to consume it or not.
Dextrin Comes from wheat. Acacia fiber is much better!
@@Timetraveler1111MN It is highly processed either chemically, thermally or even both. All but natural 🙂
Strange place to stand and record this, but ok…. 😂
Maybe remodeling or redecorating the house. Maybe a new house?
Yea and now I can’t unsee that lol…but I feel like I’ve seen him film from over to the right by those stairs, isn’t there a bar or something over there?
He’s actually just a realtor.
We don't need fiber, we can't digest it.
Kimchi...one tablespoon with dinner
If you don't grind chia you'll only get the fiber from it...
As opposed to getting what?
Metamucil is LOADED with sugar! I cant believe you just recommended that!
They have One with Stevia, it taste pretty good
and capsules
@@drexx8599 thats the one i use.
Sugar-free Metamucil obviously!
I been taking sugar free one daily for a while
Soft shell crab will clean you out. Animal fiber!
Stop eating what?
Postum!
NutriKane D for me everyday.
Thomas get dr lustig on he is amazing too
EAT one Orange per Day = Bryan Johnson does !!!
The human body requires NO fibre
It’s for micro biome why can’t people understand this concept
Fiber from fruits only is what we need
Not knocking fruits but try husk powder. You’ll literally know the difference in a matter of days
i'm ok with this video until your concluding remarks. evidence provides us with tested theories that let draw upon upon actionable practices. but taking it upon yourself to call this evidence based on wishful thinking is not the same. i don't disagree with much you say. but how you say it.
Eat pysillium husk nothing better than this
I so badly want to believe everything he teaches but every video he does he sells the exact remedy
Like number 850!
I am 70 years old & all the talk about soluble & insoluble fiber isn't interesting to me. Please just tell me what I should eat in order to lose weight & lower my glucose levels. Too much chemical talk, not enough real talk for the elderly. Make it simple.
Keto or carnivore is your answer.
Again selling selling
gotta lose that bogus beard Thomas if you're trying to look that clean cut/styled.
👋
What about dextrin?
@@kareng7024 Most dextrins are used as adhesives for paper products. Only some white dextrins are used in food and added in very small concentration. That should give you a hint whether to consume it or not.
Lol
U look better in the face. Maybe the wife dinamics😊 fiber ,carbs ,calories means sh--t
Or maybe less coke😅
Be mindful of the fibre sources that are more or less beneficial for the male endocrine system eg. Anti androgenic, pro-estrogen, flax etc.
DHT, has anti-estrogen protections, so inhibiting it will only making you start transitioning into a female. 😂
Unless you want gyno? 😂😂😂
If you want better healthcare go to Europe,, USA is one of the few countries on the planet that promotes fiber,, most of the world would never do that....
Oh stop with your war on vegetables.
Wisdom of community Q here- can I check how this relates to the glucose goddess approach- is soluble fibre the stuff that creates the mesh she talks about more than insoluble? thanks!
