      @M5PerfHydros btw, I was recently given for free, an alraedy fabricated Dumas Atlas Van Lines 1/8 (wood). Very messy construction and paint. Also missing a few items. The hobby store owner was all happy to rid it out of his shop, and now I have an ugly yellow thing in my garage that I've become mildly obsessed with. Not sure if I can attach a photo here.

    I used to run fast electrics until my back got so bad I could no longer launch and retrieve boats. So...back to my actual first love, R/C Aircraft. BUT!!! This is one of the BEST videos I have EVER watched. Everything is very clear and understandable and Scott...you are also very entertaining. Thanks! Best 1.5 hours I have watched in a very long time although I don't plan to go back to running boats!

    Those fine cuts in the tubing is in my best guess cut with a table top band saw where the blade is traveling in one direction "down" against the table top to eliminate all that bounce....

    Man how things have changed…lol, old school way back in the 70s, yup I’m that old, we would never let the thrust push on the engine, we had mini thrust bearings between the dog and strut,even later when the cable drives first came out we still pushed against the strut not the engine. Unless your system is only used on electrics?. Just found your channel and loved it, my son in his 40s has picked up the rc boat bug.

    • @M5PerfHydros
      @M5PerfHydros  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh ya, I did that myself in "the early days", and I'm still not convinced that a bearing at the strut isn't the best way to go. Although there's no good way to do that with the solid flex drive system, I think the lighter weight and higher rpm achieved with the solid drive is worth the trade-off. So many ways to slice a cat (and I've tried most of them!).

    I switched from coil to solid shaft in all my gas boats and immediately noticed a differences, especially on takeoff. When I pull the trigger on a coil drive, I could see and feel the delay of the drive windings up. When I tried a solid shaft for the first time.. the response was Instant 1:1. Never looked back.

    • @M5PerfHydros
      @M5PerfHydros  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Ray,
      If I've built and balanced the boat correctly, the strut should be dang near perfect right off the build table. But of course, the world isn't perfect and there's almost always a small tweak or two needed, and the tube will forgive those small changes with no complaints at all. Stick around... I'm planning a set-up video soon that will explain how to position the strut for success the very first time it gets wet!

    What scale is this boat? Can you give specs on the motor esc prop and batteries for the race ready version?

    • @M5PerfHydros
      @M5PerfHydros  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Michael,
      This is a 1/8 scale boat. The conversion was done for Bill Brandt at Rattlesnake RC who provided all the parts, so I don't really even know what the specs were. It's a legal build to race in RC Unlimiteds in the NW, so it would meet these specs copied from the rulebook;
      D. Technical Rules
      1. Power and drivetrain
      a. Approved motors:
      L NEU 1527 1.5Y 850KV

      iv. TP 4040 10V 830KV v. TP 4060 6Y 850KV
      1. Approved as a test motor for 2020 Motors not on the approved motor list b.
      Shall not exceed the manufacturer's KV rating of 860 KV.
      1. If the motor case is not clear marked with the manufacturer's KV rating, the owner should be prepared to provide documentation of
      the maximum KV rating
      of the motor.
      May not have a motor case exceeding the following dimensions: 1. Length: 105 mm (4.134 in.), this includes any bearing protrusions. 2. Diameter: 42 mm (1.654 in.).
      c. Twin motors are not allowed. d. Drive line either cable or hard shafts may be used, no gear boxes allowed. e. Any propeller may be used up to maximum of 57MM in diameter.
      2. Electronic Speed Controls (ESC)
      a. Any ESC may be used as long as it is rated to a minimum 130 Amps and rated to handle a minimum of 8s battery configuration.
      b. Anti-spark resistors are advised on all speed controllers.
      3. Batteries
      a. A maximum capacity of BS Lithium Polymer (UP) batteries are approved. Only LiPo batteries
      with a cell rating of 4.20 or less volts per cell are approved. Maximum charged voltage is 33.84 volts

      I've converted my boats to a solid flex drive system and don't use cables anymore, but you can get them from a number of sources. A couple I prefer are Rattlesnake RC and Zippkits.

    Hey Scott I’ve really been enjoying your videos lately, I just bought my first nitro hydro after ten years of flying rc helicopters and jets. I’m excited to get out on the water and plan on building an outrigger while the ice is covering up the lakes up here in Maine, I have two quick questions, it’s perfectly fine to just run 2 stroke klotz oil on my shaft instead of marine grease? Is that what u do ? Which I’m hoping so because my other hobbie is dirt biking so I have all kinds of klotz!
    And last quick question, do u happen to have any fast used boats or hulls for sale? I’m also on all the forums too but please if u have one you’d like to sell, I’d love the chance to own such well taking care of boat, nitro or electric. If you happen to I can send my email and send pixs etc. thanks scott, From Scott!

    • @M5PerfHydros
      @M5PerfHydros  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Scott (cool name by the way),
      I do use grease on the cable. Old fashioned I know, but there it is. I have considered using some sort of oil, and klotz would be good as any I should think. What I would never do is add an oiling cup like I see in a lot of boats. Adding the unnecessary weight would make my head explode!

    • @M5PerfHydros
      @M5PerfHydros  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh and second part... No boats for sale currently, but stay tuned. I'll probably sell two at the end of this season to make room for new. Find me on Facebook and you'll see them listed eventually
