We Kayaked Deep Into A TINY CREEK For Nonstop Fishing Action!

  • Part three of fishing with ‪@CreekFishingAdventures‬ We started our day out by fishing on the main lake, but after an hour or so of slow fishing, we decided to kayak up into a shallow creek. I have only went up this tiny creek once before and had success so I thought it would be a fun area to take John.
    Good news - we found the target species! Pumpkinseed are a type of sunfish that are very prominent in northern waters. They are extremely beautiful fish and they pull hard when using light tackle. On this trip, I used an ultralight rod with 6lb braid to a 4lb mono leader. I caught all my fish on a Mule Minnow 1.2 rigged on a 1/64oz Mule Jig. I caught Rock Bass, Largemouth, Bluegill, Pumpkinseed, Yellow Perch, and one Warmouth!

    Nothing better than "free" lure finds. Not to say I haven't also offered up some, but the finds have been special. Even though I prefer free, I splurged and gave you some business with a few of your plastics. Who can have enough options? (My wife would have some comment on that.) Looking forward to trying them.

      @@FishAnything I learned about Mule Fishing from John Dawson’s Creek Fishing channel. I’ve used those mules and jr’s for smallies but I noticed that you used a bigger jig head than I’ve been using. I’ll try that and see if I get better “castability”!

      I just got into UL a year ago because of Ethan’s vids and his donkey tail and jigs. I started cheap with the 13 Defy silver rod and actually love it. UL makes panfishing a lot more fun that’s for sure.

      @CatchReleaseRepeat ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PrimeMKTO for the money you can't beat the defy silver, though it's a bit stiff. For a little more, the tfo trout panfish rod is a total stick of delicious butter! The lews wally marshall classic crappie rod is also pretty killer, though it's not ultralight. Med Lt power, moderate action, it fishes like a Light but has the backbone to handle a 3lb'er no problem. Midway's blowing them out right now too. So cheap I bought two extras in case I snap one!

    Michigan has over 11,000 inland lakes. We have the second most lakes in the U.S. I think Wisconsin is number one with 11,200 lakes. There are some “great lakes” a long the Michigan west coast to include, Muskegon, Blue, White, Stony, and Silver lake. Funny story, Blue Lake is home to the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp; which, American Pie based its its band camp off from.

    The fish are good and finicky this time of year they have seen most lures and baits thrown at them, the places where I've been fishing they're only eating during the hungry hours sunrise and sunset otherwise they pretty much ignore anything that's artificial especially the lake water that's super clear at the moment.
    I can say though that either operator error or very large angry fish swimming away with expensive lures in their mouths because we did not have a net ready.
    Right now the score is even thanks for the video Aloha from Holland

    I am starting to think that if I'm not fishing tournaments and don't need to guarantee hookups it's probably better to swap the hooks on some of my hard baits to siwash hooks. Less foul hooking and less danger to myself.

    Awesome outing with Mr. Dalton. We need a popping frog video in the future with that sweet find. Also what braid would you recommend for 1000 reel throwing 1/64 to 1/16 jigs fishing for panfish and bass.
    Jbraid, spro (gf like the pink lol)
    Or fire line

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like the pink Spro I use a lot but it is pretty expensive. I think the J Braid X8 Grand is a better value and is really good stuff. 6lb test is best for the micro lures.

    How large of a reel do you use for ultralight? Is 2500 too large?

    • @timothythompson6549
      @timothythompson6549 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Usually a 500 or 1000 size reel, but in reality you can just throw some light line on a bigger reel and roll with it as long as it doesn't throw the balance of the rod off kilter. Very often a manufacturer's 1000 and 2000 size reels are identical in weight.

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I personally prefer a size 1000 but you can technically make a 2000 or 2500 work. As Tim said, the 2000 and 1000 will be pretty similar but the 2500 will generally be a bit heavier and have more line capacity than is necessary. You can still fish it, but it may balance a little odd.
