What Will I Catch On This REBEL CRICKHOPPER?

- The Rebel line of ultralight lures are absolute classics! On this short fishing trip, I took out my inflatable paddleboard with one ultralight and tried to catch some fish on the Rebel Crickhopper. This particular lure has been great to me in the past for bass, panfish, and various other species along the way. On this trip, the fishing was pretty slow but I was still able to manage several bites along the way.

Wading down a creek with a crickhopper tied onto an ultralight is what happiness is made out of. I love it. It’s truly a multi species bait. You never know what you’re going to pull out of a creek until it gets hit. Fun times.
100% agree. Such a fun bait for tiny creek fishing.
I haven't fished in years and I live in a small town, so my selection of fish gear is small unless I drive an hour to the nearest academy or bass pro. I was always told Ugly Stick was the best ultra light. I have recently gotten back into fishing. You have shown me new equipment that is awesome. I recently bought a Lews ultra light setup at the local Walmart. I am still baffled at the hi vis braid. The Lews ultra light is bright green, so I had to get matching braid! Thanks again for your videos. They got me up to speed!
Happy to hear that you are enjoying the videos. Let me know if there are ever specific questions or feedback. Tight lines Kevin!!
I have a Lews American hero reel. I really like it. It's a 2000 size , but looks like a 1000 with a bigger spool. Which is cool with me. Super smooth.
Here's a suggestion: Rapala makes two versions of micro-poppers, one with a frog pattern and one silver and black. Those little poppers have caught some big bass for me, as well as bigger bluegill, warmouth, and even green and long-eared sunfish. Top water blow-ups are so fun on ultra-light gear.
Rebel used to make a crick - popper and so did Storm , Stinks that they are both discontinued now .Arbogast makes some nice little ones still too .
I need to play around with more ultralight hardbaits. Good suggestion :)
arbogast had a minature hula popper with a skirt on the back @@RozCannistraro-zd9do
The Rebel craw can be fished in super shallow water . It weaves itself around rocks in mountain streams like nothing. I went right behind some fly fishers leaving and bam within seconds. Nice Rainbow. You could see and hear that explosion. They didn't even ask. 😅 They did wanna know 😂. I believe one of them was trying to teach the other 2 how to fly fish. Super beautiful area in Southeastern Tennessee.
I have used the Crickhopper as my “go-to” cheap universal bait for 30 years. You just can’t beat em when you’re not sure what is biting and just want to catch a fish (/);}
Tried and true for the long haul!
I used to use crickhoppers and the rebel crayfish all the time when I was a kid, and me and my brother would have "rock bass tournaments" against each other at my grandmother's cottage in central Ontario. Then I kinda forgot about them until last year when someone bought me the rebel variety kit. Now it's become a go to again for small ponds and creeks. Awesome, time tested lures.
Everything Rebel makes is money ,The ghost minnow is from criminally underrated too from them .
I would love nothing more than to compete with someone in a Rock Bass tournament.
Rebel also makes a hellgramite that works in streams
Getting dorsal finned, sliced on gill plates, and caught on our own hooks is just the karmic price we all pay. Turnabout is fair play.
Add being bitten on the hand by a 26" Pickerel to that list..
OOOOF I think the pickerel bite sounds the worst lol
Great video, Love the crickhopper, I need to get the bighopper version, I live in Idaho and the fish around here love grasshoppers!
Oh I bet! Such a classic lure :)
yep... i laughed at that bait years ago... but fish love it... paddle board looks like a great way to fish... nicely done
Goofy looking lure but it works :)
I have too many Rebel lure trout fishing stories 😅 I swear. I've caught a couple of 20" not long after a good rain. Turning the water from clear to muddy. On the Rebel craw. One was in very swift water. I believe they can hear and feel the vibrations. They have to. In clear conditions , I've also caught a pretty nice Rainbow on the Rebel June bug. I cast under a overhanging branch from other side . I did this maybe 5 to 6 times. I knew there was something there , but figured i probably had whatever it was scared by all that. That last cast a nice Rainbow nailed it hard. I love Rebel lures. If im on my way to the mountains to do some trout fishing for a few days and I realize I forgot them I'll either turn around or I'll stop and buy more. 😂 honestly
Glad to see you're catching fish with that crickhopper there.
I've used it for years off and on and never caught a fish with it.
Keep after it! You will make it work!

👍🏻👍🏻
Love your Videos & your Mule Product Line, you're a heck of a Fisherman!
Thank you buddy. Hope all is well :)
Such a fun little bait. This and the Rapala Floating Minnow are a couple of my favorites to throw on the ultralight.
I think the standard Rapala Original is my favorite UL hardbait of all.
Love seeing the crickhopper do some work!
Classic bait :)
Gotta get myself a paddle board like that 🔥🔥
Honestly it is a blast!
Whether things went as planned or not, it was still a very enjoyable video. And you never know that maybe a day or two from now those baits might be just the ticket. Thanks for sharing Ethan
Thank you Jerry - I appreciate your ongoing support.
One of my fav lures....guaranteed fish catcher!!!
Dang right :)
Just getting into ultralight fishing and I got one of these in my tackle box already because I saw you suggested it on discount tackle. Excited to hit these hot Vegas ponds and see how it fares in the shade, thank you sir!
Get after it!!
Great video I had a couple days like that where you just got harassed by micro fish’s . Great video again.
Thanks LBF. Not a crazy trip but I caught fish so I am happy :)
If I could only have one lure for year-round fishing in NC and VA, it would be the small crickhopper. Thankfully, I don't need to depend on it. Here's my rule of thumb for color selection. Early Spring - Yellow; Late Spring-Summer - green grasshopper; Late Summer - Summer grasshopper; October-November - brown. Anytime....anywhere, the black color will surprise you. I've never caught anything on the fire tiger.
This is good intel - thank you for sharing!
Been using crickhoppers since I was a kid. They can catch everything.
Darn right!
The micro dropshot has been my go-to stillwater savior this year. Gotta go low and slow!
I love a good micro drop shot bite.
I love the crick hopper. I’ve caught gills and bass on mine. Hooked one bass that was probably 2+lbs and he wrapped me around limb and broke me off. Great video.
They are a classic bait. Have caught some nice river sunfish on this.
Nice job from the paddleboard. Takes a lot of skill to fish from that.
It definitely takes some getting used to. Thank you :)
The Rebel Craw is much more effective outside of July/August. It truly catches everything and is fantastic in creeks (sans the hottest months of the year).
Heat of summer = tough bites
Micro Rebel is the best🤘🦗
Nice video bud

Tight lines Bruno :)
The deep driving craw is one of my favorites, I remove the front hook on most of my rebel lures.
Interesting! Taking off the front treble is a really cool idea!
@@FishAnything it keeps it from getting stuck on most things and you’ll still catch a ton of fish. I’ve also attached octopus hooks to them in some trout streams were barbless hooks are needed. That does affect hook up ratio. The rebel lures work so good for shoal bass or other stream specialists down here in Alabama/Georgia
Great baits but sometimes the conditions call for something else. I do love them for creeks, small rivers and ponds. A little chop on the water can make these deadly. My confidence has grown with them for sure.
Yeah I need to play around with these more in the future. I just have so much more confidence in a jig/plastic.
Slingshot fisher. Lmao. Im gonna try that.
Tight lines :)
Definitely one thing this video has taught us is fish the condition and stop trying to make the fish eat something they don’t want I’m guilty as the days long with this I’ll just go out and just keep casting and casting and no reason to why I’m still casting something that ain’t working lol
Honestly I am so bad about this too. I still make the mistake often.
I used the Bass Pro version last year at a pond near my parent's and landed a 3+ lb bass. It truly catches big and small.
Good to know! Might have to look out for that.
Bass pro version and Ozark Trail are exactly the same. They definitely work.
facts about the treble hooks and jumbo sunfish. Fatboi slammed one yesterday
Just last week I was thinking" I wonder if they still sell the crickhopper. I use to tear up the bluegill and redbreast on the Edisto river in SC back in like 96 and 97 with that thing but now I don't have a crickhopper
Sounds like you need to get one out of the tackle box and relive those days :)
I am going to order about a dozen online, cause I don't have any now
The Rebel Bumblebee 🐝lure is the one that catches everything when nothing else is working. I upsized the treble hooks to one size bigger because the stock hooks are just way to small and annoying to unhook from tiny mouths.
They are kinda hard to find now , I think they discontinued most of the bug cranks they used to make .
Interesting! I will have to look out for them.
@@RozCannistraro-zd9do they still make them. Bumblebee, horsefly , June bug and more. They're not everywhere. They are on Amazon. I've caught a nice trout on the Junebug. I do think the hook may be a little small also.
I got one of those, caught a couple bass
Always good for a few bites!
I think rebel makes a rebel craw XL that like 3” long
Yeah that might be a good smallmouth option.
I tossed one out on the St. Joe River in Niles, Mi. It hit the water and something, I'm assuming a pike came up and chomped it off my line.
Oh snap! Bummer you lost it but I bet that got the heart pumping!
Somehow I got my first ever brown trout on a creek hopper
Doesn't surprise me. I bet they pound this thing at times!
I have never caught a single fish on my crick hopper
Keep after it and I trust you will.
Crick hopper must be an American thing? Lol we've called them grass hoppers my whole life
Creeks are called Cricks by some US residents. So the lure name comes from it being a grass hopper for a creek. A Creekhopper which translated into US dialect = Crickhopper.
Crick hopper is just the name of the bait by rebel. Almost no one here in the states call real grasshoppers that lol
@FishingWithChris_Tv oh man that one flew over my head 😂 whoops must have gotten a little to much sun this morning
Lol this is a funny series of comments. I might have to start referring to real grasshoppers as crickhoppers just because of this.
